Well, who knows? It'll pop up on Find A Will or The Gazette in due course, I'd imagine. Might be a mistype on one or the other, certainly I'd prefer family and friends notifications.... Interesting chap, apparently Ken Dodd engineered his big break as a magician, and Danny La Rue's dress designer also designed Mr Lindsay's fabulous costumes. Simpler magic for simpler times, but nonethless not forgotten.

Apparently former Uriah Heep singer John Lawton was part of the 1976 Eurovision entry for Germany, the Les Humphries Singers. Lawton reportedly died at the end of last month: https://blabbermouth.net/news/former-uriah-heep-singer-john-lawton-dead-at-74/ I'll go out on a limb here and suggest he's far right in this clip from the Contest - not Germany's finest hour, but I think they were jumping on the previous winner from Netherlands: Edit: Comments in YT suggest the guy in blue in the clip is John Lawton. Well, I had a 25 per cent chance of guessing right.

People I Was Surprised To Find Are Still Alive
YoungWillz replied to Catherine's topic in DeathList Forum
People are reporting that this is the death notice for Alan Braden: https://www.witneygazette.co.uk/announcements/deaths/deaths/19247048.Alan_BRADEN/ IMDB agrees: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0102945/ DDP Pick this year. I'd be absolutely astonished that the national press have not picked this up if this is true. -
FFS, can't the Casino manager catch a break? Haven't had my elevenses yet and it is nearly time for twelvses! I hope his QO is slow...

Not the slowest start, but the slowest start since 2017. Swamy has a heart attack (possibly brought on by the thought of being picked here) and becomes the first official faller. gcreptile hits an A - 5 Additional Points. Reigning champ Perhaps had him as a sub and draws 4 Hearts for 4 Points.

Erroneously posted in the Summer Olympics thread, death of Jeannette Altwegg cross posted here. It's Sunday, I'm tired, blah de blah de blah....
-
Looks like Jeanette Altwegg, a pick for @YorkshireBanker, died back on the 18 June. Accordingly, under the rules, she is ruled out and first substitute Betty Boothroyd takes her place. No recollection of this having happened before once the game started.
-
British Olympic Champion in figure skating in 1952, Jeannette Altwegg, death notice: https://berneroberlaender.sich-erinnern.ch/traueranzeige/jeannette-wirz-altwegg DDP Pick. Another gold medallist not picked for the Scavvy Hunt. Edit: Of course not, it's Winter Olympics! DOH!!! I'm all over the place today.

Well, she's a columnist on a weekly newspaper (wrong foot for me but hey ho) plus I'd say she's THE digital nun. I mean, Sister Wendy would have killed for the following she's got, and Sister Wendy was no slouch with admirers. I didn't really have to rule out many this year for the Poker - mainly because after 5 years folk are beginning to realise what they can get away with! I check everyone whose name I don't know, make my judgement call and that's it. Also, fewer fallers this year before the end of entries - Kaunda and Miscavige and that's it I think. I'm guessing some folk are still on tenterhooks to find out whether a pick has died yesterday or before.
-
American athlete Janet Moreau Stone, who won a gold medal at the 1952 Olympiad with her teammates in the 4x100m relay, death notice: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/providence/name/janet-stone-obituary?pid=199252854 Can't see her picked in the Scavvy Hunt. Amazingly, she's not the last member of the team to die, as Barbara Jones (who was 15yo in that team) lives.
-
Well, the clock has ticked round and the game is live. Masterlist is up on page 1. Check your teams! Two fewer entries than last year, only to be expected in a pandemic. Good luck everybody!
-
I haven't really been following this at all. (I mean, I stepped out this year, so no need). Now we have hot DDP Committee on DDP Committee action?
-
Wait, so does that mean that leaves a gap on the high street, or not? Quandary!
-
Or the Donald we were hoping for.
-
Not picked for the Poker- phew!
-
I'm going to say...whoops?

Paul Koulak, French composer of France's 1973 entry Sans Toi has reportedly died: https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=https://www.leprogres.fr/culture-loisirs/2021/06/30/les-obseques-de-paul-koulak-compositeur-de-la-musique-de-fort-boyard-auront-lieu-a-saint-chamond&prev=search&pto=aue He also did all the music including the credits music for Fort Boyard. Anyway, here's Martine Clemenceau: IMDB: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1065753/
