  1. Second Scottish leaders' debate was exciting....well if you like that sort of thing.

Jim Murphy promised everyone the earth, while Patrick Harvie promised to save it. Ruth and Willie promised more Con-Dem Nation, while David C (UKIP Irrelevance Party) just condemned everyone. Sturgeon stuck to her guns and promised the truth and answered direct questions, even if her hurt her chances of votes. She's unstoppable up here. Even my (former Tory) Stan Freberg loving Dad's teetering her way.

Yesterday's quote of the day: Murphy (in response to a question about Labour standing up for the working man) "Labour is the party of the common man, and indeed of the common woman." I.e. we're part of the establishment, you're common, we'll do what is best for you commoners. Good god.

How's it going elsewhere in our United Kingdoms?

Fun Fact: While Gertrude Weaver only held the title for 5 days, Emma Tillman only held it for 4 (in January 2007, I believe).

There have been cases - one fairly recently but I can't recall exactly when - of the world's oldest title being surrendered by someone who remained alive; because another claiment was proven to be genuinely older. That's less and less likely to happen with better record keeping from the end of the 19th century.

That would be Maria Gomes Valentim (9 July 1896 - 21 June 2011), who was discovered to be the world's oldest person after the title was given to Eunice Sanborn (20 July 1896 - 31 January 2011) and later to Besse Cooper (26 August 1896 - 4 December 2012), who later had the title anyway.

Nice spot. Now this is a biggie.

DQSP and CrazyCarl don't have him either. :)

    Happy to oblige ;)

Here's an individual page all to himself http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-32215518

Edit: Telegraph Obit for more details about birth etc http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/11522836/Ion-Trewin-bookman-obituary.html

  4. Aside: has anyone noticed recently just how bad the BBC are at reporting the deaths of their own stars/presenters? Gerald Sim, Pamela Cundell and now Tom Coyne all without so much as a mention. Yet they will repeat the shows and have talking heads talking about the days of yore....never really noticed until I started on here.
