Next Unexpected "national Treasure" Death
Weebl replied to Sean's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
You've hit the nail on the head there. He is EXACTLY the kind of person who meets the description here - everyone knows him, no one particularly expects him to die imminently... -

I honestly think at the moment, Bowie is the musical death of the decade so far. If Dylan makes it into the next decade, Bowie will probably remain the musical death of the decade -

Did he not say obese celebrities are not allowed? -

He actually did come to mind for some reason, but I don't think he'll die in the next 5 years and probably not in the next 10. Really just cursed him now though! -

Sean Connery, Norman Tebbit and to a (considerably) lesser extent, David Jason are good choices that have been mentioned so far. But then again, all of them are quite old. If we are talking about "national treasures", I'm assuming that the person would have to be British? Oh and by the way, if a person is over 80, their death shouldn't come as a shock. Unless they're something special, like royalty, of course... -
Yeah - apart from the obvious blindness, what are his health issues if any?

But, I think an important point is that Gen Y people (born 1980-1995) have missed out on at least some of the pop culture, especially the television, that older generations have absorbed and know about. Up until the 1990s, TV was the main electronic device people used to get their information. A lot has changed since then.

20-29. Correct actually! But I won't be in that band anymore this time next year...
-
What I do wonder is whether you could guess a person's age by their posting style. Which age band do you think I picked?
-
Was he ever gay or a junkie or something?
-
But not her prince of course - Prince Philip was looking alright at her birthday celebration - he's doing well for 95!
-
Ironic that - an aging queen and a dying prince!
-
I always think of Prince as being similar to Michael Jackson, does anyone else see the parallels or is it just me?
-
They really all are dying this year! Not really a fan, Raspberry Beret is a fun poppy song though Has his death actually been confirmed by reliable sources?
-
Even a few years back he was still in good shape presenting Strictly and so on, but this past couple of years he has really gone downhill by the looks of things. At his age, a couple of years can make all the difference.

They must have been smoking something stronger than cannabis - I'm not quite sure what planet they were on when they decided to leave Marks off this year's list but it's not one I've been to
-
I can't believe he's still alive to be honest - thought he was at death's door about 10 years back

I would I'm pretty right wing, but I think these neo-Nazi types are just clowns that make fools of themselves. It's funny how anti-semitism is actually taken more seriously nowadays when it comes from left-wingers, because right wing anti-semites are seen as a joke. The left hates Israel, and that's seen as anti-semitic? I don't get it - if you criticise the Chinese government it doesn't mean you hate Chinese people, and likewise if you criticise the Israeli government it doesn't mean you hate Jews! Getting back to the general topic, I'm surprised that there are any Nazis still alive. But then again, the last resident of St Kilda died the other day, so I suppose anything is possible...

More avantgarde than prog really, but Tony Conrad, known for collaborations with Faust and John Cale, dies aged 76: http://buffalo.com/2016/04/09/news/art/tony-conrad-avant-garde-pioneer-ub-professor-dies-76/ In other news, John Wetton's latest CT scan reveals no change, now onto round 10 of chemo. Is this bad news for him? I don't know enough about the cancer process to be able to say, but it doesn't sound great...

I'm not the biggest w***er around here nor the biggest porn watcher, but before I was beaten to it I was going to mention Amber Rayne. Don't really know who she is, not being familiar with too many porn stars, but I did see her name on Wikipedia's recent deaths page! 31 is far too young to go, no matter what your profession or line of work... especially when the likes of Vera Lynn and Zsa Zsa Gabor are still kicking around... Have got to imagine that there have to be quite a few porn stars who are drug addicts - many prostitutes are drug addicts, and pornography is basically professional prostitution on camera, if you follow my line of reasoning... no pun intended! But no cause of death has been given yet, so just have to wait and see...

Another one I considered including on my list this year... They are fairly dropping dead this year, all these old TV entertainer types

Wikipedia is great in some ways, but it has its flaws as well. Some of the articles are extremely well written, better than some professional journalism, whereas others are the pits. It's highly variable.

How did I manage to miss this? I check Wikipedia's recent deaths all the time...

I can't help thinking he looks a lot healthier in the photo above than he has for ages. He looks more like Jeremy Corbyn in that photo than he ever has done before. A few years ago people were saying he was a Gary Glitter lookalike...
