I'm surprised no-one (AFAIK) has mentioned Ian Holm yet. He was ill a while ago and seems to have retired from acting. Also his age would make me consider him for 2017. Another one that I haven't seen mentioned is Michael Anderson who will turn 97 in January 2017. He directed The Dambusters, Around the World In 80 Days and Logan's Run so he'd definitely get an obit. Geoffrey Bayldon should definitely be considered for next year as well.

The thing is with Zsa Zsa I'm sure many people who knew her initially thought she was a goner over 6 years ago when she had the last rites and all the other ailments. I don't wish death on anyone on the Deathlist or anyone we talk about on the forum (except the usual evil sods like Brady, Huntley, etc) but with Zsa Zsa it will probably be a release for her. She suffered for more then a decade. She had no quality of life whatsoever and probably no idea where she was. Much better to be like someone like Christopher Lee - healthy and working into his early 90s, still active and mentally fit…and then suddenly old age takes you out of the game in a few days or weeks. I'll still miss her being talked about on this site though.

Stunned by the news. Still it's over eleven and a half years since this thread was created so she hasn't done too bad. I did think she'd hit 100 though. Anyway at least she isn't suffering anymore. RIP to a legend.

In honour of her 100th birthday next year she should be number 1. I think that she will go sometime next year after her 100th. I just can't see her going on for more then 1 year (but of course with Zsa Zsa I could be wrong!).

I've just noticed that Zhou Youguang is now the joint 100th verified oldest man ever sharing the place with Masatake Kinoshita at 110 years, 332 days old..
-
I thought he would have made a good addition to the 2017 list but sadly it wasn't meant to be. Another fine character actor gone but I'm glad that he had a long life and he ended his career with a great performance in Game Of Thrones. Now will the committee finally decide to include Geoffrey Bayldon for next year? Roughly the same age and an equally long repertoire of film/TV appearances.

'And now his watch has ended' RIP.

Another 60 years is a challenge, but if you think she can do it, then she will. Yeh, yeh - a quick post that somehow added 60 years to Lucy's age. Now fixed! I do think Emma can get to 118 though (at least).
-
I think she'll eventually be the third oldest ever. Lucy Hannah (the third oldest currently) was 117 years, 248 days old when she died so if Emma makes it to next August/September she'll achieve it. Can't see her getting to Sarah Knauss's age (119 years, 97 days) and Calment is unbeatable IMO. But you never know!

Sorry, 'Sir' Jimmy Young - 95 years old - a good innings - I thought he would be a good pick for 2017 but not to be..

I've just seen that Zhou Youguang finally enters the top 100 oldest living persons list. He's at number 100 jointly with Yvette Mangin - both 110 years, 283 days old.

I think I'd substitute Gazza for Brucie in that list. Who's most likely to see 2018 out of those 2? This may be a pick that is judged 'too early' by many but has anyone thought Barbara Shelley may be a decent pick for next year. Just about the only main Hammer horror star left and is 85 next year (DOB 13/02/1932).

Reading that linked article it looks like the King's apparent heir is a real nasty piece of work (to put it mildly) and seems to already wield the power of the crown to launch purges. I think there will be huge trouble in Thailand when Bhumibol dies. It's not surprising really that they're trying to push his expiry date as far as possible..
-
Thank God for that! I think she'll see 2018 myself and possibly one to take off next years list (along with Leslie Phillips after that photo showing him looking fairly healthy!)
-
I agree - I had a feeling that he wouldn't live a very long time with the news about his health recently but thought he'd see 2017. I just find it incredible how many celebrities are going this year and yet we're only up to 7 on the death list, especially when you consider the longevity and recurring health conditions of many of them!
-
Just seen the 'breaking news' on BBC. Very sad news - he was a really funny bloke and starred in some great movies over the years. Watching Stir Crazy now and you can't believe both him and Richard Pryor are now gone
-
I was one of them. Makes a change I suppose.
-
Very good list Shaun. Can't believe both Antony Eden and Harold Wilson's wives are still alive - they are a worthy inclusion. Also just realised Bill Treacher will be 87 next year so that pick seems OKish although I've not heard anything regarding him for years..could say the same for Gene Hackman? I think it's about time Sean Connery was also included - I have a vague feeling that him and Roger Moore will both go within a year of each other.. If we don't get more hits soon in the 2016 list I'm finding it difficult to decide which ones should be booted off for next year! We can only keep 25 can't we so (at the moment) we'd have to lose 19 off the list - God knows which ones.. Although I can't believe you've left off Geoffrey Bayldon and Tony Britton - 2 definite contenders for 2017!

Next Unexpected "national Treasure" Death
RolandDeschain replied to Sean's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Michael Caine or Tom Baker - both in their 80s but still big news if they go this year. -
Yes - many happy returns Leslie! Shaun - do you think he may go this year? I think he'll see 2017 to be honest. There hasn't be a hit for over a month though since Cliff on March 17th. I think Havelange is next..
-
She was also the doctor in Kubrick's 'The Shining' who checked up on Danny before they went to the Overlook Hotel. Not many actors left from that film now (apart from the 3 main leads of course).
-
I had a feeling (for some unknown reason) that he wouldn't be around for that much longer. RIP - he did a lot of good stuff throughout his career and he seemed like a good bloke. btw - will there be any celebrities that survive 2016?! Its turning into a real charnel house and we're not even out of the first quarter of the year yet….
-
Happy 99th birthday Vera!

Needs closing as Cliff was number 5
