It appears the world's oldest man was not Shi Ping nor Tinniswood, but Frenchman Georges Thomas, who died at 112 on June 1st.

This feels like a DL miss.

Being a little prescient and considering the love of DL for old African bad guys (Hastings Banda, Bobby Mugs, Daniel arap Moi) I think Kenny's inclusion on next year's list is quite likely if he makes it. President of Zambia since its independence for 27 years, and the last recognizable "founding father/tyrant" of an African Country (Sam Nujoma apart), he has been suffering from ill health at least since 2016, when he was mistakenly reported as dead. Anyway here we are four years later; all the African dictators born in 1924 have been wiped out except for Kenny. Last week he got nominated for Nobel Prize for Peace and today he expresses his condolences for his "dear friend" Moi. Health updates quite regular and birthdays always celebrated, so thread won't be empty till death, I think.

1. He has his own thread 2. The picture is from last year and was already posted on this forum.

Israeli writer Matilda Koen-Sarano (wiki) reportedly dead at 85.

Bangla singer Sabina Yasmin (wiki) back home after three-month hospitalization in Singapore. While undergoing "routine check-up", a "dental issue" was discovered, which required surgery and then radiotherapy. Radiotherapy must be a new approach to treat caries.

Muwenda Mutebi II of Buganda (wiki), longtime King of Buganda, has been hospitalised for two months in Namibia. Frequently treated in Germany before that, probably the second most important political figure in Uganda after Museveni.

Ali Aslan.... well, Ali Aslan's wife has died. -
Update on Yuriko for her 101st birthday: still in hospital, "stable and rehabilitating", but "unable to eat or drink". One of the original Immortals, she is a little bit overdue at this point. Antonio Gasalla discharged again, of course. Mayor of Genoa Marco Bucci received surgery for skin cancer which metastasized to the lymphatic system. The prognosis seems to be good anyway.

Israeli Paralympic champion Israel Even-Zahav (wiki) reportedly dead at 77.

Polish biologist Maciej Gliwicz (wiki) reportedly dead at 85.

VS Achuthanandan is the last of the original names still standing that has achieved a level of excellence in immortality that makes him a likely successor. Just needs to stay alive one more decade. As it's mid-year again, I'm open to suggestions for next year. @arghton

Sorry, too short to be searched. I will amend soon. Thanks.

Tin Oo (1927-2024) Tin Pest! "Oo, I'm not feeling too well" (Tin's last words) "Another one bites the dust" (King Jimmy running out of successors) Age at death: 97 Known health issues: Severe stroke in 2017, hospitalised with severe COVID in 2021, hospitalised multiple times in 2024, pneumonia, heart and kidney failure in May 2024. Cause of death: Kidney failure and pneumonia. Alignment: A General Tin Oo was minister of defence and chief of Burmese army in the 70s. Strangely enough, he had a conscience, felt he had done harm to people and dedicated the rest of his life to the quest of democracy. He was a founder of NLD (now all gone except San Suu Kyi) and was arrested at 84. In his last years he survived an unsurvivable stroke, and was manipulated by the junta many times. Tin Oo was an original Immortal and a top class one. Jimmy Carter is burying all his possible successors.

Philippe Leroy dead at 93.

Political relic Shamanur Shivashankarappa hospitalised but not in any danger.

Per posts above he is confirmed to have died in the right time. But I am also out and about today, so don't fret.

Maguni Charan Kuanr dead at 88.

Kelvin Felix dead at 91.

Tin Oo improving. Seems not in more danger than usual actually. The confusion about his death is due to a person with the same name dying at the same hospital today.

Is his uncle Habibullah Karzai (wiki) still alive? Would be a centenarian.
