Sub in at the same spot you had Boone, don't slide your other names around - - they are fixed in place. Newjack also had Boone and can put in a replacement at the 3 spot. Damn, I was starting to look forward to the Octogon duel after all this. Yes, that is part of the reason. Also, with up to 20 lists being posted (maybe more this year!) I thought it got very confusing and time consuming for people to have to scroll way back to check every prior entry. This way that is unnecessary, players only have to track their own teams previously entered over the course of the year. I felt that even with a lot of teams say having the same name at slot 5, they cannot do it again next month, and will have to at least move the name down to #4 the month after that, resulting in a lot of change between rosters. However, I did not consider Sir Creep's nefarious plan of tracking the leader or having the leader protect his lead by mirroring his closest foe. I would hope that the rule restricting reuse of names at previously used point slots would make that difficult to do, but obviously not if a fresh batch of names are being pulled out in December. For January, the new rules stand, as I don't want everyone who has already posted having to come back and figure out how to repost a team. Then, starting in Feb or March, I will reevaluate what is needed to keep the game interesting but not too onerous.

Yes, here is our first rule confusion! As I said in the opening post, returning players should read through the rules as I have tried to simplify them a bit from last year. The Old Crem is fine - there is no rule preventing duplicate picks between players anymore. I hope revocation of that rule does not result in list stealing, however. If I see a list has 3 or more names at the same position as a previously posted list, I may reserve the right to remove the second posted list as plagiarized.

Once you are in the competition with a January entry, then future entries have no deadline. You are only penalizing yourself for getting teams in late, as you have no chance at scoring until you do. Last year, there were several teams that missed months entirely. It is to your own benefit to be timely with submission of your team.

You may enter teams any time starting now. Game starts on Jan 15. Hits occurring before that date will be allowed replacements. So far we have 25 entries this year! More than initially signed in last year, although including the people who dropped out and those who came in late it was a few more total last year. The game starts in a few hours, and I believe I have come up with a compromise on the rule change that has been raised. For Jan, the lists are all good and will stand. Beginning with the Feb lists, teams will consist of 5 names, all worth 5 points each if they are the first time the name is submitted in that month. For example, if I post my team on Jan 27th, I lose my active Jan team, and cannot score until Feb 1 with my new Feb team. But if I am the first to do so each of my names is worth 5 pts! If the next team to post uses one (or more) of my names, they can do so but will only score 4 points for those names. The next poster to use one of those names will only get 3 pts for the hit, then 2, then 1, then finally after 5 appearances, the name is worth nothing for that month. So like last year, each name can only appear on 5 active lists per month, but if you want to try for max points, you need to post a list of 5 fresh names. Ranking the names is no longer necessary, the order is irrelevant. This may turn out to be a scoring disaster for me, but I think I have a way I can graphically illustrate it in the team tables I post each month. So the incentive to post early has increased with this new rule. A fresh team has the potential for 25 points in a month (without any bonus). So I am also going to increase the incentive to NOT post early. Hits incurred on the last day of the month will be worth 3X points, and those on the second to last day of the month will earn double points. Again, wikipedia dates will be used to decide dates of death. Since we are getting close to start time, I hope everyone is on board with this new idea and it works well. May the trophy go to the most astute nose for death! Edit: The game has started! The only other premature death that I can find (wikipedia) which can be replaced is on the list of Joey Russ, who was the first to enter and has Larry Langford. Larry passed way back on the 8th. Otherwise, I believe we are good to go. Further clarification of the above new rule: Check your obits before you post an early team! You must note any new score before posting, since once posted you forfeit your current active team! Also, remember you cannot go to the same black banana in consecutive months. One more disincentive to post too early - - starting Feb early posted teams that get a hit before the month starts canNOT be replaced with a new name. You will play the month with a short list! So it is a risk to post a week in advance -- your hot new name may not make it to active status! I will post a table soon, and may close the game to new entries.

I HATE to play a whole year and end it in a tie! One tiebreaking criteria I use in another pool is that the player to reach the high score first, breaks the tie. In this case GCreptile would hang onto the trophy, and Cap Cho would have needed one more point to take it away. However, I have been through all 19 pages of this thread and cannot find that I ever proposed the rule for this pool. So, I think I would like to take Sir Creep's idea and try to break the tie ASAP with a playoff. Both teams please submit a 10 name list via PM to me ASAP, which I will then post to the thread. It will be a sudden death playoff, ther first one to get any hit with a QO will win. If the hit occurs on both lists, the one who had the name nearer the top will win. We will crown a winner yet! I will start a new thread within a few days for the 2019 version of this pool, so check back if you are interested in trying again. It will be a little less complicated.

Skinny has scored a (relatively) big 3 points with RA Overton's demise. Those are, so far, the only points scored for the month. Skinny has his head firmly in the guillotine with only a few days to go. Joey's carryover points are a non factor as every month is a stand alone contest. Pts earned in prior months are only used as tiebreakers at the end of a given round. They do accummulate, but do not hurt you unless you end up tied at the end of a round, and have more than the person you are tied with. I will not add any new names for Jan, we will go with the 59 names we have. Teams can be submitted at any time. Skinny needs a prayer! Also, a point of interest - - my thread also has my post as having been made on Dec 9th. The site must put a time stamp on each post based on the local time of the reader. That could confuse things, if we are ever splitting hairs as to the exact sequence of things.

Things have sure slowed down at the end of the year! Could that mean a huge rush at the finish?? Looks like 13 teams have made the full race to the end. GCReptile looks like a sure lock to win the inaugural contest, even with a double points week coming up at the end of the month. I have a lot of pools going these days (either I am running or playing), so I am unsure about if I will restart this one for 2019. If I do, it will probably start a week late into Jan, and I will change a couple of the rules to make it less complicated what names you can enter each month.
