My only potential unique, Jacqui Forster, was a name that did fascinate me when I found her. Founder of the Woman At The Game, her goal is to try to get more women to go to football matches, and she's currently suffering from terminal cancer. Got a Guardian mention back in October, so I decided to punt on her. I think the bigger issue is the lack of age, but from the photo, she looks like someone in her mid 40's, and I suspect an age will come up at some point. Of course, her unique potential will probably be taken away by the Pelican or someone like that, so I might not even be successful on that front even if she does die and obit and an age shows up.

I think I really like gcreptile's risky team. He certainly has a lot of interesting names, and I think he might be able to dominate everyone else. Of course, we haven't seen The Living End's team, so I can't necessarily predict a winner yet...
-
I also new about Tiffany Youngs, but from what I read on her, she's currently doing great at the moment, so I think she's a 50/50 chance.

Some thoughts on people that didn't make the final cut on either team: Simon Ricketts - Think he'll live to 2019 Devin Lima - As will he. I did briefly consider him due to his rarer cancer, but I think he's young enough that he'll be around next year Rose West - Think she's a fraud. And I'll admit, I did put likely fraudster Tim Curley on my B Team, but that doesn't change the fact that I don't trust either of them Ami Brown - Also suspect she's a fraud as well, though it's more in the manner of exaggerating her condition rather than lying about being ill, as I suspect she's at least somewhat ill Chris Betancourt - The could die in one years time FFBI pick but could get a transplant, and while due to his Puerto Rican decent he's less likely to be able to get a transplant, it's too much of a gamble for me to take, though considering on what other gambles I took, it might've turned out to be a better pick than some. Ian Toothill - Not sure he'll obit 6 months after his achievement, especially with no update since then. Nobby Stiles - Idiotically placed him on the sub benches in place of Linda Nolan Hugh Masekela - Doing alright at the moment, though a turn for the worse wouldn't surprise me Philomena Lynott, Lindy Remgino - People who are likely to die but not really the kind of pick I choose Kevin Carr - All I've seen is a local QO mention, so I don't think he'll obit Pete Frates - Was my first sub, but I think he might see 2019 And then some thoughts on some B Team individuals: Hal Blaine - He was the person I only picked to try and save from the list of the lost. And with him reportedly not in the best health, he's not that bad of a pick Johnny Clegg, Jose Jose - The squad of pancan individuals who are currently in remission, but it could strike back at any moment Tim Curley- Already mentioned that I think he's a fraud Oliver Dragojevic, Peter Lorimer, Nobuhiko Obayshi - Interesting names that I found, but are too old for main team glory T Boone Pickens - Probably one of the closest names to me personally, and he's currently in failing health, so I couldn't resist the urge to pick him Holly Rowe - ESPN journalist who cancer has spread, but I think she's doing well at the moment Thuy Thanh Truong - If she dies and obits, I'm gonna regret not picking her for my main team, especially since gcreptile picked her Billy Wright Jr - The cancer tests aren't gonna be revealed till January guy to see if he's good or fucked

Honestly not expecting to win this time, especially since I idiotically put Linda Nolan the same way I did Al-Baghdadi last year, and that didn’t do me so well. Especially since I could’ve easily put Nobby Stiles in instead. I think I might have a few too many gambles this time, but I’m interested to see how well this does. Day In The Death 2018 Pick 1: Marieke Vervoort (joker) Pick 2: Leah Bracknell Pick 3: Matt Cappotelli Pick 4: John Cocks Pick 5: Patrick Cryne Pick 6: Rayya Elias Pick 7: Jacqui Forster Pick 8: Dean Francis Pick 9: Stuart Fraser Pick 10: Greg Gilbert Pick 11: Vanessa Goodwin Pick 12: Clive James Pick 13: Tessa Jowell Pick 14: John McCain Pick 15: Liam Miller Pick 16: Linda Nolan Pick 17: Fernando Ricksen Pick 18: Mark E Smith Pick 19: Stefan Karl Stefansson Pick 20: Morgan Tsvangirai And my much more interesting B Team, named The Whipping Posts. Pick 1: Olivia Newton-John (joker) Pick 2: John Andretti Pick 3: Hal Blaine Pick 4: Kathleen Blanco Pick 5: DJ Casper Pick 6: Johnny Clegg Pick 7: Tim Curley Pick 8: Oliver Dragojevic Pick 9: Steve Gleason Pick 10: Jose Jose Pick 11: Steffan Lewis Pick 12: Peter Lorimer Pick 13: Nobuhiko Obayashi Pick 14: T Boone Pickens Pick 15: Tom Raudonikis Pick 16: Holly Rowe Pick 17: Bernard Tapie Pick 18: Thuy Thanh Truong Pick 19: Cas Willow Pick 20: Billy Wright Jr (Master chef heartthrob)

Honestly not that surprised considering the impact that Harvey Weinstein had on this year...
-
Since it’s early days, I believe he will.

Well done to Death Impends, one of the all time deadpooling greats. I’ll admit, I do feel a little bad for RadGuy for losing his lead in the last 3 days, but it happens.
-
Ah. Farewell Bert, and good luck in whatever life brings you to next. And (probably) congratulations on winning this year. You deserved it.

Eric Sun died back on the 23rd of November but it wasn’t announced till Christmas. (Near the end of the article).
-
People do this every year, so I’m not sure why you are complaining about me saying my opinion this year. Nothing wrong with that. I won’t, but I will say I obviously meant Ian St John rather than Greaves...
-
Why not? More the merrier.
-
Top half of the list. Close enough.
-
It’s been 65 years since Hank Williams became so lonesome he could die, aged 29.
-
Happy New Years from the midwest.

Tbf, the cancer that Wood did have was lung cancer, which is one of the more lethal types when it eventually returns. I think his death is very unlikely, but he could surprise us.
-
If the likely hits in my opinion all goes through (Bracknell, Wouk, McCain, Lee, Moss, Jowell, Gascoine, Phillips, both Bushes, Benedict, Simon, Norden, James, and Smith) then it will be at 15. Inevitably, a few of these will soldier on into the following year, but there will also be others that aren't as likely but they will go. So I don't think it's all that bad, but it won't be enough to break the record, imo...

My analysis person by person then Kirk Douglas - Made a record tying 16 appearances. I suspect he might die right before he's able to reach 17 appearances, but I don't think it's certain Leah Bracknell - I think this is 100% her year, and since I'm getting the Sam Simon/Crowe vibe from her, she'll be dead around early March Herman Wouk - I think this is his year, considering he that he was on a nasal cannula back in July Olivia de Havilland - Still believe that she'll live to be 110, so I don't think she'll be a hit next year Prince Philip - Retired his royal duties last year. Think he will be gone by 2020, but I'm not sure when he'll be a hit Billy Graham - Well, he's soldiering on to 100. And he's still slowly suffering from parkinson's Betty White - Looks a bit weaker, but too much of a legend to be dropped. Still, I think she has years left in her John McCain - Had glioblastoma since July and his prognosis is up to October 2018. Think he'll be long gone before then. Linda Nolan - Has metastatic cancer, which could mean she may last a few years yet. Still, Bernie Nolan took a sudden turn for the worse in March, so it's not impossible. Lord Carrington - Well he turns 99 this year, but he's still determined to breath Javier Perez de Cuellar - Probably won't know anything about him till he dies Pierre Cardin - Old fashion designer who's doing alright at the moment Stan Lee - Lost his wife 6 months ago, and people who loses there spouses at this age often die within the following year, so I think he's likely Stirling Moss - Said to be in poor health right now, so I think he's a likely hit Tessa Jowell - Has glioblastoma and look terrible at her appearance at the house of the lord. Fucked Doris Day - Unlikely hit, but she is old and probably undroppable for now on Bob Dole - Was hospitalized last September, so I think he will die either this year or next year, cause I expect hospitalizations to continue Bob Barker - Only news on him is the tabloid bullshit that is common. One of the safer bets to see out the year Prunella Scales - Still suffering from dementia, but I don't think it has advanced enough yet Jimmy Carter - Successfully beat cancer in 2015, it could relapse or he may easily see another year out Leslie Phillips - Has been in poor health since 2014, it's more of a matter of when rather than if imo Jill Gascoine - Think her dementia has advanced enough to probably kill her this year. Though Nobby is a much better bet to die, and he's not on the list Vera Lynn - Chalking up her 10th appearance, she's still doing alright at 100, but don't get too comfortable on her certainly seeing the year out Robert Mugabe - No longer the dictator of Zimbabwe. I'm not sure whether we'll be seeing any updates from him or not till his death George Bush Sr - Continuing hospitalizations. It may take a while, but my gut feeling is that he's a goner this year Charles Aznavour - One of many celebs who seems to be in good health at this point, and is not likely to die this year Henry Kissinger - Same as Aznavour Honor Blackman - Think she's healthy, but msc did say statistically she may die to the committee being good at sniffing out old actresses Barbara Bush - Like her husband, she's currently in poor health, and if he goes, she goes as well imo Dick Van Dyke - Very much active and one that I might be surprised at legitimately if he dies Stanley Baxter - One of the more cult like picks, as in he might die, but it's not certain Valery Giscard d'Estaing - He's merely just old. Jacques Chirac would've been a much better pick as he's actually ill Mel Brooks - Though he may be healthy, I think he's a lock for the list till he dies Pope Benedict - Said to be in poor health, so I think he'll die next year Neil Simon - Currently at an advance stage of Alzheimer's, so he's certainly a likely hit June Brown - Don't know much about her cause I'm a yank, but people are saying she's fine, so I'll go with them Hosni Mubarak - Still think he'll last a while, but I think he has become more of a deathlist cult pick than anything Sean Connery - While his death wouldn't surprise me, the last time I saw a picture of him he looked decent. Mind you, so did Hugh Hefner before he died Louis Farrakhan - No idea on his health at all, and probably the pick that most surprised me tbh Denis Norden - Still said to be in poor health, and I think it is his year this year Ian St John - Look very good last time I saw his picture, yet he still on the list and not Nobby. Stage 4 cancer may kill him, but he got a while left imo Jimmy Greaves - A much safer bet to die than Jimmy Greaves, but he's still 50/50 imo Valerie Harper - Medicine is starting to wear off, but she may or may not be a hit this year, another 50/50 bet Clive James - Quit working for the Guardian now, and it's been awfully quiet with him. Imo, he's fucked Stephen Hawking - Well, als will kill him eventually, but he's more likely to survive the year than not Ronnie Wood - Lung cancer is currently in remission, but if the lung cancer does return (and lung cancer has been known to be a real deadly killer when it comes back), it might be a well paid off gamble in the year Olivia Newton-John - Think she'll easily see 2019, but on solely for the just in case she dies Joni Mitchell - She has been in poor health, so she's certainly not the worst pick on the list Paul Gascoigne - I'm in shock in why he returned. He might be dead by 60 (and I say might very warily), but I doubt he'll die this year Mark E Smith - Has been cancelling a bunch of concerts recently and is currently not in the best health right now. He's a decent bet to die, and I have a gut feeling he will go this year In short, I don't expect this to be a record breaking year, but I think this may due better than we expect.
-
Yeah, if he survives another year, he’ll break it.
-
Looks like Davey Jones Locker came back as well. Right, now we need rockhopper to come back, and then everything is good.
-
Guessing she was too American for the list.

I did say that I would do a team in the form of a theme, which, as you can probably tell, it's music related. I did put a couple of rules on myself: I am not allowed to pick anyone who was used at a previous dead pool, and any music pick I did use this year (minus crowdsource list) I would force myself to pick here. So here are my picks for 2018: August Alsina Joan Baez Ginger Baker Tony Bennett Hal Blaine Chris Brown Candido Camero DJ Casper Johnny Clegg Phil Collins Ray Davies Christy Dignam Oliver Dragojevic Geoff Emerick Guy Forsyth Aretha Franklin Stuart Fraser Leonard Hawkes Jacques Higelin Jake Holmes Joseph Jackson (producer) Jose Jose Rodney Justo Devin Lima Loretta Lynn Vera Lynn Hugh Masekela Barry McGuire John Mellencamp Joni Mitchell Henry Mountcharles Graham Nash Willie Nelson Olivia Newton-John Linda Nolan Brian O’Connor Seiji Ozawa Genesis P-Orridge Chris Rea Sonny Rollins Gary Rossington Johnny Ruffo Todd Rundgren Mark E Smith Phil Spector David Thomas Tony Visconti Joe Walsh Dionne Warwick Robert Wyatt 4/50

Oh, now why is he back on? This is a wasted pick...
-
I think that's all because I mentioned him once early on.

Seems closer to the right time. Anyways, this is the thread to discuss possibilities for 2018. Enjoy
