Definitely. Likely still hundreds. Just off the top of my head John Hemingway, the last of ‘the few’, served the entire war.

It is rather obvious when you look at @Ulitzer95’s list that it is only of airmen with wiki pages. Please try to keep up.

Political frailty - he headed a major executive department when it was in its heyday and was a Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient.

I don’t know - that user who was really keen on reminding us that not everyone lives to 100 and not everyone surpasses it racked up quite a few in a short time.

William Daniels, Doc Severinsen

No. He’s not.

Fair point. Apologies for the dig. I don’t agree that I’m merely relying on precedent. This court has shown itself to have its fair share of textualists and pragmatists and I absolutely do not believe that Reed would be overturned. Further more the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Equal Pay Act along with many other congressional acts would remain in place which ban sex discrimination in both the public and private spheres. The ERA that we have now “ready to go” is both redundant and poorly thought out. No one has ever done a decent job explaining how it would not create a sex-blind jurisprudence. Laws meant to support the advancement of women in society would be undermined; just as anti-discrimination statutes are being used to dismantle affirmative action. Even Title IX would be compromised by the ERA. Furthermore the ERA only bans discrimination by the government. It’s a lousy law. Even Justice Ginsburg thought it should be thrown out in favor of something more nuanced. There are many sexual disparities in US society but the ERA won’t fix them, and it may even exacerbate them.

Reread your comment. Something like equal rights for women is already there. Regardless of what Justice Scalia said in an interview, I know of no opinion of his or anyone else’s that presumes Reed v. Reed to be an incorrect judgement. Also, the concept of sex has even been expanded by this court to include sexual orientation https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bostock_v._Clayton_County#Majority_opinion Go back to law school.

Just going to leave this here: https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/amendment-14/#amendment-14-section-1

Sorry. Was this actively wanting? Not really a hard opinion to come by among rationally minded people, is it? Today was the first time I’ve actively encountered a Putin apologist/denialist.

Agreed. The internet has plenty of places for trolls - we have no business allowing this site to become a platform for idiocy of this magnitude. This site has a purpose, and it’s for weirdos like us to talk about celebrity deaths. Not to spread misinformation.

Sharpton also looks horrible. He could pass for someone who looks good in their early to mid eighties but absolutely terrible for someone not yet seventy.

A blog for an academic journal - written by a Foucault scholar. Seemingly much more reliable than the source of the original accusation. I have no dog in this fight, but it seemed inappropriate not to bring up that the claim you’re stating as fact is contested.

The accusation of child molestation seems to have been rather thoroughly debunked. https://www.telospress.com/must-we-cancel-foucault/

That sort of anti-semitism is not exclusive to nuts on the right.

As there has been some confusion, and the Wikipedia entry is a mess, I went through the sources for the original list of ‘Nixon Enemies’. They can properly be split into three groups as I explain below. Original L ist of 20 has two living: Morton Halperin Sidney Davidoff Addendum to Original List of “Political Opponents” has 18 living: Fred Harris William Clay Charles Rangel James S. Doyle Ted Knap Morton Kondracke Martin Nolan Garry Wills Marvin Kalb Bill Cosby Jane Fonda Joe Namath Barbra Streisand Victor Palmieri Derek Bok Noam Chomsky Daniel Ellsberg Matthew Meselson - and five that I am having trouble finding obituaries for or proof that they are still alive Vincent McGee? (Business Executives for Peace and Aaron Diamond Foundation) James Laird? (Philadelphia Inquirer) George Hillman? (Ellery Products Manufacturing Co.) Charles Palmer? (National Student Association) Seymour Scharer? (Scharer & Associates) There is a third list of nearly six hundred names that I am not going to go through because they are merely anyone who worked for, or donated significant money too, the George McGovern campaign in 1968. Many well known people are on this list for no other reason than writing a check. Names which appear on the Wikipedia list but not on the list above are not actually on either of the first two lists. Some of them are on the third list and some of them are apocryphal and unsourced. Perhaps some of you would be interested in helping find out the fate of the mystery five? Any help is appreciated.

Nice one. Also on Nixon’s Enemies List.

I believe the aforementioned Craig and Sandy Koufax played for the Dodgers in ’55 when they won the series. So there are three living Brooklyn Dodgers. -
Thank you. I cannot hear her name without thinking of Gilda saying it.

I realize it says this in the article but the the claim that he is the last is highly spurious. Many Greek nationals fought for Allied powers and there was significant partisan activity until 1944. We are a long way off from the last WWII veteran of any national category, especially if a broad view of what constitutes a veteran is taken.

Small correction - it’s James Buckley that was Senator from New York. He was Bill Buckley’s older brother and Bill is deceased.
-
I believe so. Didn’t Kristofferson accept his induction into the Country Hall of Fame? It looks like he’s presenting him with a medal of some sort.
-
Obviously subjective but I think he has a decent claim to being the last survivor of a death camp to go on to become famous for a reason other than being a survivor.
-
Why did you post this? No one has died. You posted the exact same list fifteen days ago. Is it just to let us know that two weeks has passed?

I take your point. I merely struggle with the implication that because he was impeached for political reasons means that he really didn’t do anything wrong. As someone who lived through it I always thought there was plenty of blame to go around. The Republicans were over zealous and partisan, but the president was arrogant and morally corrupt. The late 90s were an unfortunate time to be politically aware.
