Retired ref Kerry Fraser has incurable blood cancer, though if caught early enough, he should be fine for a couple years. Will found out if it was caught early enough in a couple of days: https://www.nhl.com/news/kerry-fraser-story-on-cancer-fight-diagnosis/c-292541764

That said, neither article says anything about Joe Biden, only about Sanders, so it doesn't seem anyone thinks that they prevented him from running - nothing out in the public yet, at least.

They've 'suspended' production on the current season while they 'address concerns of the cast and crew.' I'm thinking there's a lot of people not kicked about working with Spacey, especially given more accusations against him are coming out - I think it's at 4 or 5 right now, not including Rapp, who got the ball rolling?

This. Also, as a lot of pieces are pointing out post Weinstein, there were attempts made to speak out about this stuff (maybe not irt Hoffman specifically, but in general), but were buried by the industry. Walters' interview with Feldman is obviously the most famous of it right now, but there's this Guardian piece about a movie exposing child abuse in the industry that was buried despite great reviews+an Oscar nominated director helming the project: https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/nov/01/an-open-secret-hollywood-child-abuse-documentary It's available for free until the end of the week, and I'll probably try and get through it Saturday when I'm free.

Yeah, Spielberg's name I've heard IRL Feldman, but everything I've heard about Hanks says he's a stand up guy - haven't even seen the gossip pieces you mention, gc.

This is conjecture, mind: Manafort joined the campaign to lead 'delegate-coralling' efforts, and Trump promoted him to campaign manager after Lewandowski was ousted. That said, he's been around a couple of previous Republican presidential campaigns, including Ford and HW. Might just be a case of Trump and/or his campaign picking a random political insider. That said, given him Ukraine ties, it might also be that Trump was introduced to him through business contacts, and decided that he's be a great addition to the campaign or some such. But I don't think there's any clarity to how they initially met out there.

Campaign manager until some point last year, IIRC?

Manafort and Gates have pled not guilty as expected, the really interesting part if the guilty plea and co-operation w/ the FBI from Papadopoulos, tbh

Whether actually good candidates or not, I suspect both the Queen and Hawking make a return - they're old enough / sick enough that some people will try and take the chance, and also popular enough to be good picks for casual players. Same with Prince Philip.

Herman Wouk. *yawn* He needs to die so I can actively start picking other names.

I'm not yet sold on the O'Reilly suicide watch, because he's still out and about to a limited extent, and has his share of supporters. Plus that book is going to make money, let's be honest. On the other hand, Harvey Weinstein....also given the apparently 200 women claiming harassment against him, maybe James Toback. Both giant dicks, neither of whom I'd be sad to see go, tbh.

Me when I'm browsing the Guardian front page: WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED? This was truly a surprise for me. RIP Fats!

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/saudi-arabias-crown-prince-just-declared-war-on-the-clerics/article/2638480 Doesn't seem like a healthy thing to proclaim, given I'm pretty sure at least one king was assassinated over what the religious clerics saw as too much modernising...

Walter Lassally, winner of Best Cinematography in 1964 for Zorba the Greek, has died aged 90. Greek obit: http://flashnews.gr/post/329588/syllyphthria-bamboyka-gia-thn-apwleia-kinhmatografisth-walter-lassaly Doesn't seem to be one in English yet, but I'm sure it'll come as the US wakes up.

I got all my coverage about this attack from The Guardian, which did a decent job, IMO. I think NYT covered it a bit as well, but aside from that, you're right - the initial blast was covered, and nothing else (including Western responses re: the Eiffel Tower going dark and Toronto doing blue and white lights in honour of the victims, and a bunch of famous people like Imaan and Coldplay donating money).
