School fire kills 20-something students and two teachers in Malaysia. Headline says 22 students, URL says 23, and the text says 25, so somewhere around that number.

NYT puts count (seems to be of everyone hit by Irma) at 56. However, news coming of 6 deaths at a nursing home, which means the count will be going up. That said, it'll still be closer to the 100 prediction that anything else, IMO.

If anyone cares anymore, there's a NYT obit now.

Edith Windsor, lead plaintiff in United States v. Windsor, the case the upturned section 3 of the DOMA (which specified that the term "spouse" only applied to marriages between a man and a woman, even if the couple was legally married in a state that allowed same-sex marriages), has died aged 88. https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/12/us/edith-windsor-dead-same-sex-marriage-doma.html?mcubz=0&_r=0

If you're feeling positive, try and figure out how he fits into the Malaysian political system. Here's what I parsed from Wiki: Each state has a sultan There is an election in which one of the sultans is chosen as king of the country King of the country also means head of the country Head of the country is not the same as PM of the country At which point I just gave up.

Len Wain, co-creator of Swamp Thing and Wolverine and editor of Watchmen, has died on September 10th aged 69.

Oh, I don't doubt that he's got a good chance of making it to next year, but I can see him going really early next year.

Says he has a 'very vicious form of cancer,' 'every life has to end one way or another,' and is talking about how he wants people to remember him. Says he's confident about getting through it and will be overseeing work on a bill on the Senate floor next week, but doesn't seem like it will be long now.

Everything reporting about the water cut in Beaumont puts it at 100,000+ in population, which means that it's going to be even more difficult ensuring they have access to water until the supply is fixed. -

Texas Sec of State declines aid from Quebec, including hydro crews, asks for prayers instead. I have a headache. -
In non-Harvey related Trump news, he's expected to repeal DACA and/or let it lapse, drawing fire from businesses. Announcement could be made as early as Friday, though there's a thought that Harvey may force policy changes from Trump and the Republicans related to DACA, illegal immigration, and the border wall. In other potential Trump news, David Clarke, Milwaukee sheriff who is an outspoken Trump supporter and who Trump called a 'great guy,' resigned. He's been under fire for abuses in jails in his jurisdiction, including the death of an inmate, as well as his hardline right-wing opinions (gun rights, BLM and ISIS are teaming up to destroy America, Ferguson protestors are vultures, the usual stuff). Given that he claimed he was offered a senior position in the the Department of Homeland Security in May, it's possible he could be hired by the federal government, especially given Trump's support of him. he said he'll announce his next steps in the near future, which a couple of other websites have claimed is next week.

Honestly, given their ages, I wouldn't be surprised if any of the centenarians die this year, including Lynn and Douglas

Oh yeah. The flooding in this side of the world isn't going down anytime soon either - current death toll after a day's flash floods in Mumbai is 16, with the toll expected to rise as more missing reports are filed. And the only reason the rains stopped was because the cloud system moved inland, and other parts of the subcontinent are still being battered by rains and floods as well. -

Hurricane Irma rapidly intensifying. No idea what route it will take, but could potentially hit both Carolinas and/or Puerto Rico in the States, as well as the Caribbean, Bermuda, the Leeward Islands, and Hispaniola. Storm will probably make landfall (if it reaches land) some time next week, and is expected to be Cat 3 or stronger by Thursday night. -
Missed some time back, but David Creighton, who played for the Bruins, Maple Leafs, Black Hawks (which is how it was spelled then!) and Rangers over a period from 1948-1960, as well as several seasons in the AHL, before retiring in 1969 and coaching for one season, died on August 18th. His son, Adam, also played in the NHL for a bunch of teams.

HuffPost reports that Beaumont, Texas, has lost its water supply for an indefinite period of time. The main supply was lost due to damage to the pumps from the Neches River overflowing. The secondary system is at Loeb Wells in Hardin County, and is also offline for some unmentioned reason. City officials say they don't know when water supply can be restored - they need to inspect the damaged pumps to get a estimated time, which they cannot do until the flood water recede and the pumps become accessible. They also put the death toll at 35, based on what Reuters is saying. -

Apart from the devastation caused by Harvey, over a 1000 people have died due to flooding in South Asia this summer. -
Ebrahim Yazidi, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs (April-November 1979) and Deputy Prime Minister (February-April 1979) has died. He resigned his position as the Deputy Prime Minister in protest over the Iranian hostage crisis. From 1995, he headed the Freedom Party of Iran, an outlawed, pro-democracy political party.

Do you happen to have a link to a piece which talks about all 9? Everything I've seen has named up to 8, max, and this is just fascinating me, the way the Russian dominoes are falling! -
On the other, the person who literally wrote the book on NPD - the psychiatrist who wrote the defining clinical characteristics for it - has said that while Trump is a narcissist, he doesn't have the defining characteristics for NPD. I think a case can easily be made that he is suffering from the disease, but it's just as easy to make a case that he's simply horrific at being President and has too much of an ego to not try and "win" every situation he faces.

The other wildcard in the Trump impeachment debate is the man himself - I wouldn't be at all surprised if he just up and quit after a legal verdict that goes against him. In fact, that would be quite in character, and I wouldn't be surprised if that happens before there's enough support for an actual impeachment.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/gorka-security-clearance-revoke_us_59a0eb66e4b06d67e337bcdb I know it's HuffPost, but I think this is an interesting look at why Gorka might be out, and why the did not reign narrative is one that exists.
