I think BeretBleu was talking about absolute legends of the game, that is why I mentioned Santamaria. I couldn't think of any high profile player older than him. EDIT: Just remembered another really old legendary player: Juve and Italy's Giampiero Boniperti. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giampiero_Boniperti

Yes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/José_Santamaría and I'm sure there are others.

Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?
Life Is Beautiful replied to Joey Russ's topic in DeathList Forum
I think it's a little too early to say it with 37 days util New Year. But I'd say, in this order: 1- King Michael 2- Leah 3- Bush Sr. 4- A newcomer like McCain 5- The Reverend 6- The Pope -
Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?

Probably Bush 43. I still can't believe he's 70. HW was very lucky to get to the Ford milestone, but I think we can all agree that the end is near for him. Bless him. Trump is already looking unhealthy and miserable, he obviously looks worse than Reagan did at the same age. I think he will barely finish his two terms (yep, I think he WILL have two terms) then will croack ala LBJ. Carter, bless him, is living on borrowed time at this point. He is a cancer survivor who was close to death on multiple occasions. He might get to HW's milestone and live a few years after that, but that'll be it for him. Bill has had all sorts of important health issues and surgeries and he'll be very lucky to get to 80. Plus, he is married to Hillary. Obama is a long time smoker and a fast food fanatic, he doesn't look exactly like the type to reach extreme old age. He might do like Nixon and exit after an acute heart attack. So, of all the living presidents, only 43 looks set for advanced old age.

Well... It's official from where I live! George H.W. Bush, the 41th President of the United States of America, is the oldest US President to have ever lived, at 93 years and 166 days. He surpasses Gerald Ford, the 38th President (93 years and 165 years), who held the longevity record for 2 years and 204 days. Ford was too ill to make a public appearance to celebrate his record, but he did release a statement from his Rancho Mirage compound, here it is: "I thank God for the gift of every sunrise and, even more, for all the years he has blessed me with Betty and the children, with our extended family and the friends of a lifetime. The length of one's days matters less than the love of one's family and friends." Will Bush Sr. release a statement for this occasion?

Agree with everybody except Carter. You just don't remove an ex-US president, 93 year-old cancer survivor and all in all one of the most famous people in the world. -

Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?

I agree. I mean how many rockers are near centenarians? Another excellent rock pick: Big Jay McNeely. The man most responsible for the wild acrobatic instrumental showman in rock, McNeely's shows featured him walking along the bar, lying on his back, and bent over backwards while playing his tenor sax, hitting squealing high notes and guttural low notes and giving birth to the idea of rock as performance art capable of extracting extreme sentiments and reactions from the audience. This was decades before the acrobatics of Hendrix, Townshend and Angus Young. "The Deacon's Hop" remains one of rock 'n' roll's most influential records and he continued successfully into the late 50's and is still playing and wowing audiences in his retirement years to this day. Of all of the horn players of rock’s first golden age McNeely is the last man standing, as he came out of retirement in later years playing well-received shows as he hit 90 years old with new records coming out periodically to remind one and all of his importance in rock’s rise and subsequent takeover of popular culture. Dear Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Committee: Please put this giant in while he's still on this earth to accept the honor he's so rightly due. -
It was either his way or Zimbabwe.

He will be leaving with grace.....Grace Mugabe that is!

"My decision to resign is voluntary on my part," Mugabe stated in a letter that was under no circumstances written at gunpoint.

Who Should Be On The 2018 Deathlist?

I really like your list, mine shares some similarities but I'm waiting for the end of the year to publish it. Some remarks: Aznavour is as healthy as a 93 year old can be. Still performing and touring all over the world. I saw him in Rome recently and I had the time of my life. What a legend! Good call on Pelé, as well as the other Pope and French ex-President. Pelé has had all sorts health problems since 2014 and has been surprisingly quiet for such a loud-mouthed know-it-all. Steve-O seems to have cleared his act a little bit these days, but there is only so much credibility you can give to a guy who used to eat cow dung and stick rockets up his ass. Nice pick. -
