Usually people make these comments to forget about their own mortality for a moment, or at least laugh it off. It's reassuring to have somebody you've known your entire life (doesn't matter that you've never met them personally) still alive and well at 90+. For me it's Queen Elizabeth. There's just something comforting about her still walking on this earth. Sometimes it's nice pretending it will always stay the same.

Think 10-11 hits is a likely outcome. It will take a few years to come close to 2017, so it's better to keep our expectations low. Wonder why they keep ignoring Gorbachev, though...he won't last much longer.

December always brings unexpected deaths. I'm almost positive it will end up being 17-18.

When you know these are your last few moments on earth, you might as well go to games and events instead of being stuck at home. Sure, people might be exploiting 41 for a few last photos, but does he really have anything else to look forward to? He'll have all eternity to rest.

Considering the fact he's buddies with Bill Clinton now, and his son got away with mass murder, there's really no danger to his reputation. These people are experts in breaking the law while keeping their image as lovable grandfathers. Expect the story to fade away soon with nothing changing for anyone.
