    Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

The hastily cobbled together popular front has the structural stability of a soufflé, and they hate Macron and his centrism, so this doesn't have the makings of stable government.

    Keir Starmer

This has been Andrew Marr's argument, that Starmer's instincts and beliefs are more radical than has been portrayed and he will likely drive a lot of change given the chance.

    General Election 2024?

Was curious where Rishi sat historically and sandwiched between Eden and an obscure Whig who achieved little and died in office seems about right.

    General Election 2024?

'I want my country back'. Not even original in the dogwhistle lines.

    General Election 2024?

Was surprised at how civil Alexander and Buckland were to each other, and sad that that was now so unusual.

    General Election 2024?

Crem is obsessed with Muslims and their supposed monolithic voting tendencies.

    General Election 2024?

They've stuck far too many people in the studio too. Election coverage doesn't need pundits in double figures.

    General Election 2024?

Similar, Channel 4 could have secured my viewership if they hadn't ruined it with shite like Dorries, Kwarteng and Widdecombe (unless she does die on air, of course).

    General Election 2024?

Widdecombe looking and sounding ready to die on the Channel 4 coverage.

    The DL GE2024 Ballot Box

Forum members convincingly backing the coalition of chaos so far.

    The DL GE2024 Ballot Box

Labour. I live in a Labour/SNP marginal, and I both want to maximise the Labour result and have no desire to prop up the SNP.

    Donald Sutherland

Have just had it broken to me by the exclamations of a bunch of Americans at a nearby table in a bar in Italy. Sad, a unique talent (although he was awful in The Eagle Has Landed).

    9. Noam Chomsky

My programmer/computer scientist husband is telling me all about his influence. So he might have been a tankie cunt, but he was an accomplished tankie cunt.

    General Election 2024?

The classic English gentleman abroad. It's David Niven. It's Stewart Granger. It's Nigel Havers. The look: Imperial Leisure.

    General Election 2024?

I'm more tuned into politics than most and I have no idea why anyone would watch these tedious slanging matches.

    General Election 2024?

Aside from the monarchy and David Attenborough, and possibly even moreso, WWII veterans are as close as this country gets to sacred cows. It truly boggles the mind that Sunak wouldn't understand this.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

Maybe they can go and live with your nutty reactionary family.

    William Russell

A sad loss. Have been working my way through classic Who on iPlayer since November and he was a real asset in those early years.

    Curse Of The Eurovision

Get it into your skull that not everyone in the UK is a fucking Zionist.

    Sophia Loren

Spotted out for lunch in Beverly Hills 3 days ago. Using a cane, but otherwise looking good. https://www.hellomagazine.com/healthandbeauty/health-and-fitness/554361/sophia-loren-looks-incredible-at-89-rare-public-appearance-photos/

    General Election 2024?

Wonder if he's modelling himself on former Scottish Lib Dems leader Willie Rennie, who was notorious for ridiculous photo ops, e.g. this selection.

    General Election 2024?

Worth pointing out that the Metro is a sister paper of the Daily Mail. Viscount Rothermere's free rag is hardly going to praise Labour.

    General Election 2024?

From the frequent updates of behind the scenes problems in the Popbitch newsletter, seems like it'll be pisspoor financial returns that threaten GB News more than the regulator. Talk TV was too much of a money pit even for Murdoch.

    Coin/Banknote Collecting

To combine Ethiopia and numismatics in a different way, here's Italian King Vittorio Emanuele III when he was also briefly Emperor of Ethiopia (1936-1941). Vittorio Emanuele himself was a passionate collector. His collection eventually numbered around 100,000 coins, and he catalogued them over a 30 year period in the 20 volume 'Corpus Nummorum Italicorum'. He was a founder and honorary president of the Italian Numismatic Society.

    5. Pope Francis

An organisation responsible for enormous levels of sexual abuse, run by officially celibate men who believe in virgin birth. Exactly the people we should listen to on the subject of sexual ethics.
