    Coronavirus death toll 2020

So let me see if I have this right: If we sneeze or cough, we are supposed to do it into our elbow. If we meet someone, we aren't supposed to shake hands, we are supposed to bump.......elbows?

    Coronavirus death toll 2020

First thoughts might be that there is a higher prevalence of underlying conditions in this group, but it doesn't seem clear cut. Blacks have a higher prevalence of diabetes, but whites best them in terms of lung disease and cancer. Study findings highlight racial/ethnic differences among the leading causes of death but present a more complicated pattern than one of straightforward group disparities. We found greater racial/ethnic differences in prevalence of single chronic disorders than in multiple disorders emphasizing the importance of public health strategies to prevent the first disease. To prevent the complexity of multimorbidity, additional efforts might target people with a single disease. Non-Hispanic black and Hispanic adults had a high prevalence of diabetes, both alone and combined with CVD. Non-Hispanic whites had nearly twice the age-specific prevalence of cancer without other chronic conditions, and non-Hispanic whites had the highest prevalence of chronic lung disease, both as a single condition and combined with CVD. Across the racial/ethnic groups, disease dyads and triads may evolve through different pathways. The existence of distinct racial/ethnic patterns should be considered in the HHS framework to prevent and address multimorbidity.

    DSCDP

I can't believe DSCDP just rejected the request to add Tim Brooks. Most of my requests get rejected, and I'm usually not overly surprised, but this one should have gone through.

And I'm not really disagreeing with you, (which is why I was so shocked to see his name), but median survival is still just 3-6 months, which means that half the victims will die sooner and half later. Outliers will happen, and being a world class athlete might just make a difference there, or not. As always, time will tell.

    Political Frailty

I don't disagree these 2 are very old, but stating the life expectancy of a country like this is not really that helpful. The elite in these places have resources not available to the plebeian class, so the life expectancy of the country doesn't apply to them. Unless that was your point.

    DSCDP

Two new features over at DSCDP. 1. There is a new bonus for Covid-19- 19 point bonus if your pick dies from coronavirus. B. There is going to be a trade day for every Wednesday in April, starting on the 8th. Now the trick will be finding someone on a ventilator that is actually in the database already, because if you have to request it, it will probably be too late.

    John Prine

People need to get a grip. Every 'celebrity ' has a following that they are relevant for, and have meaning for. Expand your minds and appreciate the differences between societies and cultures. Regarding John Prine, he is definitely a legend in some circles, and has influence far beyond those. Maybe you haven't heard of him, but have you heard of Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Roger Waters? Here what they have to say about him: Prine is widely regarded as one of the most influential songwriters of his generation. In 2009, Bob Dylan told The Huffington Post that Prine was one of his favorite writers, stating "Prine's stuff is pure Proustian existentialism. Midwestern mindtrips to the nth degree. And he writes beautiful songs. I remember when Kris Kristofferson first brought him on the scene. 'Sam Stone' featuring the wonderfully evocative line: 'There’s a hole in daddy's arm where all the money goes, and Jesus Christ died for nothing I suppose.'[16] All that stuff about "Sam Stone," the soldier junkie daddy, and "Donald and Lydia", where people make love from ten miles away. Nobody but Prine could write like that."[17] Johnny Cash, in his autobiography Cash, wrote, "I don't listen to music much at the farm, unless I'm going into songwriting mode and looking for inspiration. Then I'll put on something by the writers I've admired and used for years--Rodney Crowell, John Prine, Guy Clark, and the late Steve Goodman are my Big Four..."[18] Roger Waters, when asked by Word Magazine in 2008 if he heard Pink Floyd's influence in newer British bands like Radiohead, replied, "I don't really listen to Radiohead. I listened to the albums and they just didn't move me in the way, say, John Prine does. His is just extraordinarily eloquent music—and he lives on that plane with Neil Young and Lennon."[19] 2004 saw Prine's song "Sam Stone" covered by Laura Cantrell for the Future Soundtrack for America compilation.

    The 2020 Deathlist Cup

I think I'm almost happy that I won't be moving on in this one. Sounds like a buttload of research will be needed, and the flavor of the game has certainly changed. Congratulations Jiroemon, a very solid win for you this round. Wishing you continued good fortune.

I think he is referring to drugs like Tamiflu, which is an antiviral. It may have some limited application, but its certainly not an outright cure. This is from their site: Currently, however, there is no cure for this coronavirus, and treatments are based on the kind of care given for influenza (seasonal flu) and other severe respiratory illnesses, known as "supportive care," according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These treatments essentially treat the symptoms, which often in the case of COVID-19 involve fever, cough and shortness of breath. In mild cases, this might simply mean rest and fever-reducing medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) for comfort. In hospitals, doctors and nurses are sometimes treating COVID-19 patients with the antiviral drug oseltamivir, or Tamiflu, which seems to suppress the virus' reproduction in at least some cases. This is somewhat surprising, Michigan Tech virologist Ebenezer Tumban told Live Science, as Tamiflu was designed to target an enzyme on the influenza virus, not on coronaviruses. The National Institutes of Health has begun a clinical trial at the University of Nebraska Medical Center to test the antiviral remdesivir for COVID-19, the agency announced Feb. 25. In China, doctors are also testing an array of other antivirals originally designed to treat Ebola and HIV, Nature Biotechnology reported.

From WHO: While some western, traditional or home remedies may provide comfort and alleviate symptoms of COVID-19, there is no evidence that current medicine can prevent or cure the disease. WHO does not recommend self-medication with any medicines, including antibiotics, as a prevention or cure for COVID-19. However, there are several ongoing clinical trials that include both western and traditional medicines. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings are available.

My bad. Phillips doesn't show anymore on the recent hit list, so I did the math of probable bonuses (boni?) and figured he must have been a site wide solo. Nice hit for you then too, Torva. I thought the Machine Gun Kelly was 50 points, but its 75, so that's where I went wrong. I do find the site rather opaque. It doesn't say who had the hits, just the total number. If you want to find out that, you have to rather laboriously go through pools and members names.
