I predict the grim reaper is going to confound sceptics and be its most powerful yet like a super strong enema in 2024 moreso than recent years equalling or even beating 2020

I think there's been far more of those "miraculous"/suprising recoveries recently than usually. Searching a few threads, there's, in addition to those already mentioned: Kaiti Grey, Kitanofuji Katsuaki, Alexander Mitta, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Vidya Stokes, Sujata, Cecchi Gori, Mongo McMichael, Susana Baca, Kristoffer Olsson (very young, a suprising and welcome recovery), Silvia Pinal, Manolis Mavrommatis, Javier Batiz, Frank Caprio ("survived" pancan), Harald V, Nelson Acosta, Pratibha Patil, Yaakov Moshe Hillel, Yuriko Princess Mikasa, JRP Suriyapperuma, George Vassiliou, Milos Zeman, Mark Coleman, Braulio Musso, Faustao, Lanny McDonald, Red Farmer, Pedro Sarmiento, footballer Zurdo, La Mona Jiménez, John Force, Durai Murugan, Zack Orji, Ivan Krasko, William Mebarak Chadid, SM Krishna, Alfio Basile, Camillo Ruini and many others. Then there's the ones I'm not 100% sure are out of the woods yet: Ghulam Mustafa Khar, KM Shafiullah, Rabee al-Madkhali, Dilon Djindji . Lots of names for future pools. Two great symbols of this boring year: The forementioned Swami who looks more like a rotten lump of meat than a human yet has during the last months survived ailments that would have killed five average Joes, and that nearly 100-year-old very frail Pakistani politician who was reported dead early this year somewhere on the forums but mysteriously resurrected after a few days. -
Abdullah the Butcher reportedly d...ischarged and to attend a fan meeting in a few days. Iceman King Parsons was going to attend the same event, but is unwell.

It'll be interesting to see how wide the Spouses selection will be. I can guess the two or three most popular picks, out of which I think I have one.

That's all who have died since, right? A few comments/updates on the names that aren't popular pool picks now and/or are very obscure: 2023 names: Malik Shabazz is the Detroit activist we all know who was in ultra-critical conditions and needed to be put on ECMO, something people don't usually survive. He was discharged from a rehabilitation centre last week after a year in hospital or rehabilitation, but has an LVAD/heart pump due to extreme heart failure. Geralds Ridsdale is an Australian priest convicted for sexual abuse of tens of children. He's 90, suffers from heart & bowel conditions and other ailments, was "dying" last year, had a health scare in prison this March and was in hospital this month too. But you know, he's in prison, half of it is likely faked. Vlada Andropova, 25-year-old model who went into coma following a failed nose job. God fucking knows, there hasn't even been local news on her since June, fell back into obscurity. 2022 names: Ishwar Singh Rajput or Ishwar Singh Chauhan or Ishwar Gaur tried to save Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor who was beheaded. Ishwar was seriously wounded, but was already conscious and recovering in July 2023. He very likely survived, but fell back into obscurity Pinot Ichwandardi recovered decently from his enormous stroke and is back at doing art. 2021 names: Sasha Johnson is still alive, but (obviously) suffered permanent injuries as she was shot in the head. I don't think there have been updates since 2022, and the "recent image" that's spreading on twitter of her in a wheelchair is fake. That's her face photoshopped on Stephen Hawking. Shakti Mishra, Indian Odia singer, was critically ill with MODS as heart surgery complication. He later needed a liver transplant due to cirrhosis, but made a decent recovery. Incredibly lucky. Soulaimane Raissouni is a Moroccan journalist who was "dying" on hunger strike. He was freed from jail this week and is doing fine. MakSim (Marina Maximova) is a Russian singer who was gravely ill in artificial coma with covid. Recovered well, but was in rehab for alcoholism last year. 2020 names: Asel Kadyrbekova - Kyrgyz (?) musician who was in ICU, fully recovered now and active on instagram. Abdallah Meshref, Egyptian actor. Suffered a massive stroke but recovered well. Retired from acting very recently. Arthur Neto, former Mayor of Manaus, was hospitalised with covid and in ICU. Alive and still active on social media. Abdel Rahim Ali or Abdul Rahim Ali is an Egyptian journalist and MP who was in ICU with the early covid, and later fled the country to Dubai where he probably still is. Alex Zanardi survived his very serious accident, but requires "machines at home". 2019 names: Doug DeRoo is a local DJ from Bakersfield (and Dave DeRoo's dad) who was in hospice back in 2019 according to facebook posts. Still alive and looks rough. Gavin Robertson is an Aussie cricketer who has been suffering from brain cancer for five years. 2018 names: Sean Cox is a liverpool fan who suffered massive injuries in an attack on a stadium. He can stand up again now. Virgil Hunter, boxing coach, was in deep coma back then but is doing quite well now. Alejandro Junco de la Vega. Mexican journalist, I can't find any info on if he was ill or not, but he seems to be doing fine.

Terrorists & Topical Terrorist Targets

What about Nayef Hawatmeh, founder/leader of the DFLP and the Martyr Omar Al-Qasim Forces? He's very old (between 85 and 89 - most sources say 85), but one of the people responsible for the Ma'alot massacre 50 years ago. (And many other attacks) Israel isn't known for forgiving or forgetting and I recall there was most recently an assasination attempt on him two years ago. -
Hüsamettin Cindoruk apparently back in hospital, although I'm unsure how long he's been there. Edit: Or he has a hospital bed at home.
-
Wagner Group's military leader and longtime Africa warlord Anton Yelizarov has reportedly been ambushed and killed in Mali by Tuareg rebels.
-
Brazilian singer Nana Caymmi hospitalised with heart problems, "no forecast of discharge" Mozambican 96-year-old Marrabenta music "icon" Dilon Djindji hospitalised in emergency two weeks ago, according to some reports needed resuscitation but is now out of ICU. He has suffered from dementia and other ailments for a few years and has had frequent hospitalisations in recent months.

Wang Xiji, one of China's greatest aerospace engineers, pictured on his 103rd: On oxygen now, no nasogastric tube. Edit: Looking at that image from his last birthday, he seems much better. There he seemed barely conscious with his hands looking like a bad case of peripheral cyanosis.
-
I vaguely remember an old post about him having been very frail and thought he had already died a year or two ago. Recuperating at home I assume means that he has some kind of a "home hospital" that he's cared in. On Charles Coste, I think his short appearance was a bit unflattering. He looks much more alive in other recent images.

Zeynep Korkmaz please.

Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada, Sinaloa cartel top leader and "arguably the biggest drug lord in the world" arrested in Texas. Edit: Apparently suffers from leukemia.

Chalong Pakdeevijit, Thailand's "King of Action" has been hospitalised for nearly a year, but has now improved somewhat and can walk and go outside. Still, very old and very ill. -
Francis, a 14-year-old "internet celeb cat" with dwarfism is apparently battling liver failure. Doesn't sound like he has many days left. Although 14 is a good age for a cat, I am a bit bummed. He and box cat Maru are the only still living internet animals I follow. Both remind me of my late cat. EDIT: Francis has apparently died, a day after this post.

Jorge Lanata undergoes tracheotomy and the tracheotomy is connected to a ventilator, but he is "improving". Anshuman Gaekwad currently undergoing treatment for cancer at a London hospital. Major Chinese medical and political personality, one of the discoverers of SARS and leading advisor during COVID, Zhong Nanshan has been rumored seriously ill this and last week, but has denied the rumors and says he only suffers from gout and infections.

Jan Malmsjö in a "difficult state of health" according to this article. Sounds like he has dementia, but doesn't seem like he's urgently ill. He's treated both at home and at a care facility which means he must be well enough to be transported frequently. -
Impossible. Impossible?

Dosmukhamed Kshibekov, a rejected Hares pick and "major propagandist of science" as the obituary says, has died at 99.

African Leaders - Despots and Democratic
arghton replied to Cowboy Ronnie's topic in DeathList Forum
Not one of the last countries to become independent, but: Manuel Pinto da Costa, founding President of São Tomé and Príncipe (island country roughly the size of a fly's shit) is still alive, but still young for an African leader at 86. -
Something new on former Afghan prime minister Mohammed Hasan Sharq. According to him, on paper his birthdate is the 17th of July 1924 (not 1925?) but he could be "a year or two older or younger". He is also releasing a new book. There also seems to be a new clip here at 20:02. I think he won't die off-radar.

Marianne Bernadotte has lived in a Stockholm care home the last 4 years. She, Marianne Princess Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn (bedbound for the last two years since miraculously surviving covid), Princess Felicitas of Salm-Horstmar, Princess Mikasa (heart failure, two strokes this year, currently hospitalised etc), Induratana Paribatra (is she even alive?) and Ashi Tashi Dorji are all over 100 years old. Marie Christine of Württemberg will be 100 in a few months and is very frail. Sheikh Salem has been seemingly hospitalised for the last three years (and has been in failing health for two decades), Queen Ratna has been in poor health for years and Jamshid of Zanzibar was dying in 2020. It's a small miracle that the list has been without deaths for more than nine months.
