DL Status Updates: Statements, Obsevations & Verbal Tennis
arghton replied to Lord Fellatio Nelson's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Tumor removed and they told me it was non-malignant. Post-surgery ICU was an...experience with the stablizing my BP etc, but I was not in much pain and felt safe having nurses in the same room 24/7. Worst part might've been having the cannulas, catheter and other stuff removed. In the next bed there was a 70-something woman who'd had a more dangerous tumor (meningioma) removed and got out of ICU (and out of hospital) before me, and even asked the nurses if the other patients are okay. Standard hospital room was much more "boring" but tricked me into getting up and walking around. I'm out of hospital now, left with a gnarly scar with around 20 staples, slight occasional dizziness, back pain, a pair of hospital socks etc...hoping I won't get any complications. Thank you all who wished me well. -
Rico Carty said to be hospitalised in very delicate condition and recently rumored dead.

Nosratollah Moeinian, Iranian Pahlavi-era head of the Special Imperial Office, Minister of Information and Tourism and Minister of Roads dead in France at 103. Originally got close to the Shah as a journalist strongly critical of Mosaddegh, a democratically elected left-wing Prime Minister who was deposed in a coup in 1953. He oversaw the 50s and 60s communist purges, held a very powerful position between 1966 and 1979 and finally fled with the Shah. Wasn't seemingly on our radar.

I wonder what happened to Finnish actor Veikko Salmi. He was still alive when his wife Hellin Auvinen-Salmi (1911-1997) died and if alive he turned 100 last month, but I can't find anything on him since the 90s. Not in any way as big of a name as his wife, so might've died off-radar.

Dorian Yates (Mr. Olympia 1992–1997) recently underwent hip replacement surgery. Might be one to keep an eye on, but much less health problems than Big Arnie and Ronnie Coleman. Yates says he "looks forward to 20 plus years of exercise" which sounds a bit unrealistic for a former roid user.

Recent articles on Eeva Kilpi talk of her like she's dead already, and there have been lots of events celebrating her life recently. Strong implication she's very ill and a good low requirement pool possibility for next year. -
I agree with Ulitzer on the part that he's done nothing wrong, although I'd hope that all these political discussions could be done in the extra-curricular section where there are multiple threads dedicated for politics. Crem atleast occasionally posts a death, a non-political opinion or some piece of information (can't be said for some - looking at the "Carter is actually dead" conspiracy guy and a few others) and I doubt he talks politics with the intent of angering or agitating others.

Jiří Krampol hospitalised and has undergone a kidney surgery. This seems to be atleast the fifth time he's been hospitalised this year. Heart, lung, kidney problems, falls, A l p r a z o l a m overdose in March. -

I actually went through that list not long ago, checking who's alive and who's not and Bhardwaj caught my attention as someone who already looked pretty frail a decade ago (along with C. S. Radhadevi, Umayalpuram K. Sivaraman and P. R. Thilagam, the last who I consider a potential off-radar death as she was already quite frail in 2007 when she received Padma Shri and I can't find anything on her since) Purna Das Baul is probably the most prominent and interesting one there (inspired Dylan and Mick Jagger, performed with Tina Turner, Joan Baez, Paul Robeson and Gordon Lightfoot, smoked weed with Charles Lloyd and members of The Band, performed in 168 countries) but seems that he's still performing, so might still live many more years.

I predict the grim reaper is going to confound sceptics and be its most powerful yet like a super strong enema in 2024 moreso than recent years equalling or even beating 2020

Jayapataka ill and on IV meds with bad fever, extremely unstable and high blood pressure etc. but expected to recover fully by the weekend, when he's scheduled to have another cataract surgery. -
Daniel Bisogno hospitalised after falling ill in a tv station parking lot as he was going to return to work. He has for months been saying stuff similar to "I've recovered much faster than doctors expected", "I'll return to work soon", "I've recovered completely" etc. and hasn't given time for himself to recover properly. I'd not wish the ailments he's been having on my worst enemy, but taunting the grim reaper is never wise.

An outside perspective: On one hand, we've got Harris. What are her largest controversies, gaffes, etc? Plagiarism, a couple of ads? I've never heard anyone explain why she's the devil, from an outside view she seems a decent person and somewhat normal despite those clumsy attempts to catch younger voters. Much more pleasant than Hillary "Pioneer of Women's Rights/Messiah/Martyr" Clinton. On another there's Trump. Convicted felon, shady business deals with Russians and Saudis etc, kept classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, has praised Putin, Xi and Kim Jong-un and hanged out with Epstein and Diddy. Not to mention the countless amounts of false statements, sexual assault allegations, grifts (including that "Trump Bible" that turned out to be printed in China) and whatever else. Harris' circle seems to have mostly younger Democrats. Trump's circle? He says the most important part is that they're "completely loyal to him". There's again lots of more or less shady Russia connections (Michael Flynn, Roger Stone, Kushner, Musk, etc.) and lots more scandals. Then there's the talk about "enemies from within" and using the National Guard to "handle" them. Of course, on top of all that, Project 2025. Transgender people are a small minority (est. 0.5-1%, more or less, according to a quick google search), but mentioned quite a large amount of times in there very negatively and might be the most common target of these alt-right "influencers/activists", YouTubers and others. Always easy to attack small minorities. I feel quite fortunate that the right-wing parties here at home have distanced from the present-day Republican party, I have hope that one day the Republicans would abandon Trump and his posse. Good were the times when Dubya was the epitome of American craziness to me, atleast he was funny.

A new list up to 1935. Members of mobs, gangs, cartels etc. included too, as the previous list did have one gang member. Luigi Manocchio (1927-2024) Boss of the Patriarca Crime Family 1996-2009. Old school mafia boss with a criminal record dating back to the 1940s. Rumored dead in Sep 2024, but was said to be in extremely poor health in early August along with Eddie Lato. I'd trust those reports as Lato died just two weeks later. Gaetano "Corky" Vastola (1928) Captain for DeCavalcante crime family in New Jersey, first arrest was in 1946. Also worked as a concert promoter for Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. John Gotti didn't succeed in murdering him Louis "Bobby" Manna (1929) Genovese crime family consigliere. Involved in a lot of murder plots, unfortunately for him the FBI recorded his conversations. Currently incarcerated at Federal Medical Center, Rochester, meaning that he might be a goner soon. Rumored dead in November 2024. Albert "Kid Blast" Gallo (1930) Prominent Genovese mobster, might or might not have murdered Gambino and Murder, Inc. boss Albert Anastasia. Absolute fossil and hasn't been heard of in years. Ernesto Fonseca Carrillo (1930) Head of the Guadalajara Cartel and prominent early cartel boss who now lives under house arrest in his mansion. Said to suffer from a billion health issues. Domenico Oppedisano (1930) Ceremonial 'Ndrangheta head. No idea how prominent this guy is. Arrested in 2010, sentenced to 10 years in 2012, "concerns for his health conditions" in 2014. Raymond "Spanish Raymond" Márquez (1930) Puerto Rican Harlem numbers racket boss. Made Fat Tony Salerno a billionaire. Giuseppe "Pippo" Calò (1931) Called the cashier of Cosa Nostra, boss of Porta Nuova for nearly two decades. Involved in the Vatican Bank scandal, sentenced to life imprisonment in 1989 for organising the 1984 Train 904 bombing (and later given further life sentences). Allegedly ordered the murder of Roberto Calvi, "God's Banker". Freddie Foreman (1932) English Cray Twins associate who murdered Frank "Mad Axeman" Mitchell. Used to be called Brown Bread Fred due to his ability to dispose bodies. Biopic of him made in 2018, interviewed earlier this year and seems to be in decent health. Vincenzo Aloi (1933) Colombo acting/figurehead boss 1971-1973. Godson of Carlo Gambino. Sided with underboss Victor Orena against boss Carmen Persico in the 1990s but still made acting consigliere by Persico a few years later. Retired for more than a decade now. Charles "Chuckie" Tuzzo (1933) Genovese capo. Anthony "Fat Tony" Rabito (1934) Bonanno consigliere and racketeer. John "Johnny Sausage" Barbato (1934) Genovese capo and former underboss, once personal bodyguard for Benny Eggs Mangano. Said to be active. Stephen Flemmi (1934) Whitey Bulger associate and top informant for the FBI who became a PR nightmare for them. All-around disgusting piece of shit who molested and killed his stepdaughter. Also killed Patriarca mobster Richard Castucci, Winter Hill gangster Edward G. Connors, Irish-American gangster Edward McLaughlin, Telex chairman Roger Wheeler and more or less 40 others. Allegedly suffering from health issues behind bars. Benedetto Spera (1934) Sicilian Mafia, boss of the Belmonte Mezzagno Mafia family. Once the right-hand man of Bernardo Provenzano, he is credited with re-organising the Sicilian Mafia after the arrest of Toto Riina. Also said to have ordered the murders of anti-mafia lawyers Paolo Borsellino and Giovanni Falcone. Behind bars since 2001. Anthony "Sonny" Ciccone (1934) NY Capo who controlled Staten Island and Brooklyn waterfronts for over two decades during when Gotti was boss. Maybe best known for attempts to extort money from Steven Seagal. Victor Orena (1934) Acting boss of the Colombo crime family in the 90s who challenged Carmen Persico. Suffering from advanced dementia behind bars. Victor "Little Vic" Amuso (1934) Bloodthirsty boss of the Lucchese family, serving a life sentence. There are recentish images of him online and he apparently still controls the family from behind bars. Claims to suffer from "serious chronic ailments" but I wouldn't count arthritis as serious. Kath Pettingill (1935) Matriarch of the Melbourne Pettingill family, involved in the Melbourne gangland killings. Salvatore Avellino (1935) Lucchese capo and right-hand man of boss Anthony "Tony Ducks" Corallo. Involved in labor racketeering in the garbage and waste management on Long Island, now a multimillionaire. Matthew Madonna (1935) Once acting Lucchese boss, sentenced to life in prison in 2020. Ordered hit on Michael Meldish in 2013 for telling him to fuck off. Rumored dead of COVID some years ago when he was gravely ill, but survived and recovered decently. A few of them don't have Wikipedia pages, incl. current Genovese capo Silvio DeVita (1931?), low-profile Luppino boss Rocco Luppino (193x) and Mario Fiore (1924) Genovese guy who is not notable but is very much alive. Vincent Cafaro is in Witness Protection and not included, not enough on the internet on Wallace Rice and Luigi Ursino for me to include them.

Wise words from Spade in this thread: 1) Are they someone who will attract any interesting discussion? Cliff Richard probably isn't going to drop dead any time soon, but there's always lots of rumour and innuendo about him 2) Are they actually famous? Threads for the second bass player from The Bluetones probably aren't valuable 3) Are they in the public eye? Threads about hermits won't work, which is why I wouldn't start a, say, Bobbie Gentry thread. However, Jenny Ditski got a thread from me because she was very vocal on Twitter during her final months. 4) Are you post-whoring? Please don't. I would add: 5) Are they ill, frail, old or even somewhat likely to die in the next 3-7 years? My two cents: Unlikely to die in the next 30 years and while she might attract (uninteresting) discussion, it could all go in the Political Discussions And Ranting Thread. I don't get the threads on healthy 40-, 50-somethings. There are a select few I've made threads on, and they're all either very old or ill, and a few I've thought of (the late Kenneth Cope, Violeta Chamorro and Empress Farah of Iran)

Former Nigerian President Yakubu Gowon's 90th birthday celebration a couple of days ago. Gowon was President during the Biafra War in the late 60s. He looks, seems to be doing amazing for a "larger" guy his age (3:22:00 onwards) and so does President Olusegun Obasanjo (87 with diabetes). Ibrahim Babangida only sent a video message.
