Yes, I think Brooks is one to avoid for the 2021 DL. There is no reason why he shouldn’t make 98. After all, Reiner made it to that age. I feel as though Bob Newhart and Michael Parkinson would be two better 2021 DL picks.

The Happy Birthday Thread

Elke Sommer is 80 today. One of the last surviving cast members of A Shot In the Dark and And Then There Were None (1974) and possibly one to consider for future DLs. -
https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/1355440/Michael-Parkinson-health-concerns-frail-BBC-Breakfast-Dan-Walker-bbc-video Yes, I had forgotten about his prostate cancer diagnosis and judging by these photos, I wouldn’t argue with him being included on the 2021 DL. I feel he would be a much better 2021 DL pick than Clint Eastwood, with whom Parkinson was once too tired to have dinner with.

Yes, great point. Eastwood is also planning another movie ‘Cry Macho’. I feel Eastwood’s co-star from Magnum Force, Hal Holbrook, would be a much more appropriate addition to the 2021 list.
-
I personally feel as though there are many better candidates for the 2021 DL. Eastwood has been health conscious for his whole life by exercising, eating healthily and not smoking. I wouldn’t be surprised if he lived into his 100s.

I cannot be sure if Kotto is frail/terminally ill, however, drol stated that Kotto was “not so well”, in the Ian Holm thread, earlier this year. I also feel as though 2021 is Kotto’s year and that he’ll pass on at the age of 81.

The most significant death of 2020 is Sean Connery.......for me that is.

1. Larry King 2. Bob Dole 3. Valery Giscard d’Estaing 4. Leslie Phillips 5. Glynis Johns 6. Pope Benedict XVI

If the committee does plan on including Clint Eastwood next year, I would suggest they turn instead in the direction of Hackman, Jeff Bridges, Jack Nicholson, Robert Wagner or even Robert Redford. I feel Eastwood would be a lazy pick for 2021.
-
Connery was the first to die and I think Hackman will die before Eastwood. I predict Hackman will die in 2023 and Eastwood in 2033.

I would recommend André Maranne for next year’s list, if I was sure he was still alive (which I think he is, from what I’ve heard), if I knew his precise date of birth (he’s apparently turning 95 next year) and if I was sure that his death would be reported by The British media (which it should be, as he played François in The Pink Panther series). Nevertheless, I plan for Maranne to be on my 2021 Shadow List, unless I hear he has died before then.

At this point in time, my thoughts for next year’s list. I would drop Emperor Akihito, Shane MacGowan, Dick Cheney, Lester Piggott and General Pervez Musharraf. I think Noam Chomsky, Walter Mondale, Carlos Menem, Rush Limbaugh, Tim Curry, Bobby Charlton, Trevor Peacock, Glynis Johns, Kenneth Kaunda, James Whale, André Maranne, Michael Parkinson, Joss Ackland, Robert Fyfe, Yaphet Kotto, Hardy Krüger, Tom Parker and Tom Moore should all debut. I think returnees should be Pope Benedict, Barbara Walters, Larry King, Sidney Poitier, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Linda Nolan and Loretta Lynn. I would not recommend Clint Eastwood for next year’s list as I feel he still has quite a few years left.

I agree with Ulitzer95 that Tim Curry should be strongly considered for next year’s list.

Gone, James Gone. You only live twice, Mr. Bond, so never say never again. Rest in peace, Sean Connery. I thought he was a brilliant Bond and a brilliant actor. He will be truly missed but his marvellous work will live on for generations to come. Here endeth the lesson.
