Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread

DDP pick, I'm doubtful he'll get a QO. -
Every time I see a thread like this updated at this time of year I make 'that assumption' and just start thinking to myself why couldn't they have waited a few more weeks.

Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread
Commtech Sio Bibble replied to M Busby Airlines's topic in DeathList Forum
I've said on here before that he used to be seen around my home town a lot, usually eating a Greggs pasty on a bench outside a photography shop or sitting inside Morrison's Cafe. My mum once came home from work all excited because she had seen him and Mark Charnock (Marlon) in a pub as she was walking past. RIP -

Sid Sutton, graphic designer who produced the Doctor Who titles 1980-1986 reported on Twitter to have died. EDIT: Considering this tribute page is from June the initial report that he died in September is clearly incorrect https://sidneysutton.muchloved.com/ -
I've just seen a clip of him on Twitter and he seems to have aged quite drastically (maybe lost weight) since I last saw him a year or so ago, whilst I don't think he is in any danger he's one I'd keep an eye on.

Having now given it more thought I really really don't like the idea of the bi-generation. For me it breaks a core theme of the show, that being moving on and accepting change. Having any Doctor NOT die at the end of their run makes it so that the show cannot fully move on. I'd also say that the issue is made worse by it being Tennant as I was never a fan of the 'I don't want to go' final line and it now feel like he has got that wish, when I was watching I thought they had fixed the issue by making him accept death this time but by having him alive it undoes that potential arc. I also think it makes The Doctor feel less like one character who changes every few years and instead is multiple different characters. I think it hurts the show more than the impactless Timeless Child.

Most Significant Deaths of 2023 by Month
Commtech Sio Bibble replied to Yvonne's topic in DeathList Forum
Based on personal significance January - David Sutherland February - Betty Boothroyd March - Paul O'Grady April - Murray Melvin May - Rolf Harris June - Ted Kaczynski July - Anita Carey August - Mark Margolis September - Michael Gambon October - Bill Kenwright November - Henry Kissinger December - probably Sandra Day O'Connor so far but that'll probably change, there's seemingly always a big death in the last week of the year. -

It's glad that someone is paying attention to who I've picked. -
My main take away is that it certainly feels like a soft reboot.

Erm ok... Not sure how to feel. I liked the episode itself. Everything until the regeneration was brilliant, loved the Spice Girls musical number and the creepy puppets. Maybe the Toymaker was a bit wasted and the 'mind virus' plot was a bit rushed in order to serve that twist. The amount of references to the past was staggering and that certainly kept me entertained. I think I will be okay with that twist given that 14 can't regenerate again and is just left to live out the rest of his life and as long as we are not constantly going back to the Nobel family and 14. What I can be certain of is that I like 15 so far, so FUN. I can't even begin to score it.

Actress Anne Orwin (IMDb) most well known for playing Lou Gallagher on Byker Grove reported dead on October 8th. -
60s historical episodes are my absolute favourites. Marco Polo, The Aztecs, The Romans, The Massacre always get flooded with praise but I don't think that there is a bad historical episode in the 1960s, even the often mocked Gunfighters is still terrifically entertaining. The loss of the episodes is devastating but I will admit that I adore being able to experience them in audio form only and using my imagination. Marco Polo, The Massacre and The Myth Makers are three of my favourite Hartnell serials because every-time I'm listening to them I can scale up the (most likely) small sets into worlds of their own.

Baroness Glenys Kinnock is a solo hit for me (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-67606751) -
At this rate I'm just not going to have a list for next year, 5th person from my shortlist to die this week.

That was possibly the best episode of Who for a long time, utterly insane, had me on the edge of my seat for the entire thing. The opening scene with Isaac Newton wasn't exactly good but apart from that some great sci-fi that felt very classic horror but also fresh and new. Cribbins at the end almost killed me. 9/10

The 17th Death of 2023

Don't know. Don't care. All that matters is that Kissinger is dead. (I voted Cheney as it only feels right to vote for another war criminal) -
I've seen one person so far mourning him and that was Chris Christie, for everyone else Christmas has come early.

Kissinger dead put Shane McGowan as 3rd sub please.
