The Fringes Of Fame/family Of The Famous

William Lyttle The Hackney "Mole Man" who gained notoriety for digging a network of tunnels beneath his house, has died aged 79. The council evicted him and moved him to to a flat (where he apparently carried on out some more idiosyncratic "home improvements"), as well as slapping him with a bill for £350,000 which remained unpaid on his death. It is thought he may have been dead for a few weeks.

    The Dead Of 2010

Sebastian Horsley "Artist Sebastian Horsley was found dead today from a suspected heroin overdose in his Soho flat" The London artist was "best known for having undergone a voluntary crucifixion. Horsley's writings often revolve around his dysfunctional family, his drug addictions, sex, and his reliance on prostitutes ... Both of his parents were alcoholics" Who could have foreseen this?!

    Opera

Got one. http://www.deathlist.net/forums/index.php?...33&hl=opera Yes, but that's in the extra-curricular threads "For off-topic topics". When discussing deaths, by definition a death is not off-topic.

    Opera

Quite a few deaths of stars of opera reported recently, so maybe it's time for them to have their own thread. I'll start the ball rolling with: Maureen Forrester The celebrated Canadian contralto has died at the age of 79.

Ken Brown "A LIVERPOOL musician responsible for bringing the Fab Four together on their way to worldwide fame has died [aged 70]. Former Quarrymen guitarist Ken Brown ... played an integral part in 1959, persuading George Harrison to introduce his two friends Paul McCartney and John Lennon to form a new band. And if history had played out slightly different, Ken himself might have been the bass player for the world-famous Beatles. He played with Harrison, McCartney and Lennon as The Quarrymen, but fell out with the others after hurting his leg."

    British Science Fiction Series

Still no Doctor Who thread, so noting here the death aged 57 of Jonathan Battersby, retired president of the Life Insurance Association who also had a career as an actor and made 2 "Who" appearances earlier this year, as well as featuring in "Emmerdale" and "Taggart" and narrating the documentary "Churchill's War". Quite an interesting double career!

    Brittany Murphy

Simon Monjack dead at 39. "The British husband of tragic actress Brittany Murphy has died after suffering a suspected heart attack. Monjack, 39, had previously told of his heart problems, saying in an interview after his wife's death: 'I suffer from seizures. I had a heart attack coming back from Puerto Rico last year.' " Nicely thought out pick by Vaagheid on the DDP!

    The Dead Of 2010

Yvonne Loriod The French pianist and widow of composer Olivier Messiaen has died aged 86. Only obit I can find at the moment is in French, but I'm sure others will follow. A great loss to the musical world, but then again she is a unique pick on the DDP for me AND my joker...
