Elton John

[i like nice things] Right, I'm just off to see how much Elton John music I can download illegally so I can have the pleasure of excercising the right click on my mouse followed swiftly by the word delete, or maybe just dragging an entire Elton album towards the trash bin. It's just a shame my actions can't permenantly erase such classics as Candle in the Sodding Wind and that Disney theme forever. [/i like nice things] Edit - just remembered this bit of tumbleweed... What is the similarity between Elton John and Richard Hammond? They both have skid marks on their helmet. (a hamster free joke)

    Greatest Deaths Ever

Well, actually it also was intended to be deaths that if you heard about it, you'd go, "whoa!". For example, a top 10 (using 20th century onwards as an arbitrary cut-off point) might look something like: 1. JFK 2. Diana 3. Anwar Sadat 4. Martin Luther King 5. John Lennon 6. Robert Kennedy 7. Kurt Cobain 8. Yitzhak Rabin 9. Benito Mussolini 10. Ayrton Senna Martin Luther King, yet no Malcolm X? If it's a list of assassinations how's about Ghandi, Guevara, Jill Dando? Or a died too young list how's about Monroe, Peron, Marley... I'm sorry that I am one of the culprits who have taken this off course however I must add that IMHO the impact factor of a death is not great if you weren't born or that you were very young when they died. Hence for me Cobain and Senna are a lot higher than JFK or Lennon. Edit - little titbit for Harry re Guinea pigs. Tasting your newly made compounds was part and parcel in ye olden day chemistry

    Greatest Deaths Ever

Weird science: The curse of the iceman Just one drop can kill To get back to researchers who are household names then Marie Curie. Discovered radiation, carried around isotopes in her lab coat, put them in her drawer amazed at the light they admitted. Died of aplastic anemia caused undoubtedly from her exposure to high energy radiation. Boltzmann commited suicide due to lack of acceptance of his ideas which shortly afterwards were to be proved right via experimentation. Bummer.

    Greatest Deaths Ever

These aren't exactly greatest nor funniest just a little strange. van Gogh: Walks into field, shoots himself in the chest, thinks oh buggar not dead so goes back home. Then suffers a slow death due to fatal internal injuries he was unaware of, caused of cause by the gunshot to the chest. Attila the Hun: (could be fiction) Bled to death from a nosebleed sustained on his wedding night. Al Capone: Syphilis related illness Nicolae Ceauşescu: Who needs a camera phone and youtube? Just move to Romania where they show live executions* on TV. (*They did his wife too).

Too true. Facebook seems impossible to link - anyone have a clue. I tried to send someone a link but it just went to the login page. The first link here is trying to connect to the Bath network which is not my network and it isn't working. Grr facebook - why are you so addictive yet so crap!

    Renowned Mountaineers, Feeling Peaky?

I'm sorry Godot. I can understand from a score points point of view where you are coming from, however I still think he was a selfish irresponsible git. (I'm too new around here to have many deathpools (just one and its about celebrities here in Belgianland) let alone lists of people who I'd potentially choose so I'm not gutted)

    Renowned Mountaineers, Feeling Peaky?

Obviously I have to make myself clearer. 1. I was talking about him when he was alive being an adrenalin junkie, unable to stop doing dangerous pursuits. If you have children you have a responsibility not to go and get yourself killed climbing a cliff face without ropes, helmet etc. The drug of his chice was adrenalin which he created himself in such situations as climbing a cliff face without ropes, helmet etc. 2. I don't think the money that the Irish pay in tax should be spent looking for his body as he was irresponsible enough to get himself killed climbing a cliff face without ropes, helmet etc. 3. It is my humble opinion. Though on your logic a person who was addicted to heroin who then dies of an overdose cannot be branded a junkie because they are dead.

    Jacques Brel's Imitation Jelly Jewellery

I would appear I need glasses, the sign said PASCAL DEMAN BREL in such a way that I interpreted it to be Demain Pascal Brel as the Pascal and Brel were the same colour and size but Deman...oh excuses excuses... I think I can safely say it will be some Wallon singing in the songs of Brel. No relation, as far as I know, though Brel does have a nephew called Bruno who's a singer-songwriter. Incidentally, Jackie's is one of only 3 people to feature in the Top 10 Greatest Belgians list as voted for by both the Flemish and the Walloons, so he's a real national treasure.

Saw an advert outside a bar today that says Pascal Brel will be playing tomorrow night. I wonder if he is any relation to the famous Belgian who donne(s) his name to this thread - can anyone tell me?

    Renowned Mountaineers, Feeling Peaky?

IMHO someone who takes no regard for their life and undertakes irresponsible death defying pursuits without safety equipment does not deserve the Irish taxpayers money being spent searching for their body. What I really can't understand is why someone with a family to consider would risk their life for a quick adrenalin fix. Junkie really is the right word.

    Last of the Summer Wine

NOBODY is immortal, which is - kind of - the point of this site. Granted, he might live to see his 100th birthday cards. But, he's gonna die! Turritopsis nutricula is a hydrozoan (jellyfish) with a life cycle in which it reverts back to the polyp stage after becoming sexually mature. It is the first case in which a metazoan (animal) is capable of reverting completely to a sexually immature, colonial stage after having reached sexual maturity as a solitary stage. It does this through the cell development process of transdifferentiation. This cycle then repeats, rendering it effectively immortal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turritopsis_nutricula I feel a jellyfish thread coming on...

    Interesting Ways To Die...

There is a story that exactly that happened at my secondary school, but sadly I think that is a myth too. There were plenty of PE teachers I would have gladly speared just for fun. Just like the myth that female PE teachers are raving dykes? I thought it was just at my school until later on when other people brought up similar stories (checking you've had a shower, telling people to do PE in their underwear if they don't have the proper uniform, checking whether your "female reason" for getting out of swimming this week is true)! All myth. Maybe. Edit -Anyone else click on the Gayest Referee link after the javelin incident? Raised a chuckle.
