Things To Do While Waiting For Death... 2007

No - but it reminds me of the Yeti Sports games. Fantastic! I managed 744 ft firing at a really low angle (not the 45 degrees you learnt at A-level - then again that was always my problem with mechanics, it was the oversimplification of the models. Too much time was devoted to worrying about friction when really they should be considering trampolines, balloon bombs and venus fly traps. Needless to say 744 ft was not my first attempt!

    The Dead - 2007

Listen very carefully I shall say this only once.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/6452615.stm Tried to do a search for the late Lucie Aubrac or for french resistance as there is probably a thread but the search function decided to play up so I've stuck her in her.
  3. I hope this gets President Bush riled. In a utopic world I'd prefer total nuclear disarmament as I presume would most people. However I don't see why we so called westerners have the right to go harping on about who can and cannot have nuclear capabilities. In fact the US government and the other allies of the Manhatten Project (UK, Canada and ... ?) should have had restrictions placed on them long ago for all the attrocities they caused in Japan. Before you say otherwise, no squid ranting anticommunist could change my mind. We don't know if the cold war would ever have been a factor if the right to possess weapons had been removed from certain nations as a direct result of their previous actions. Again an example of one rule for the rich and sod the rest of you.

Did you read Forever by Judy Blume as a kid perchance? She said the same thing, as words go, war is worse than f*****g. At my school it was strictly a 5th years only book, so obviously one canny lad peeled off the special sticker and snuck it passed the librarian. Being first years we still had the honesty stupidity of childhood not realising it would be a lot easier just to steal the book! Sadly today (a little under twenty years later) your average 11 year old is probably more sex savvy than your average bunny girl.

What's in a name? Knowing a little of the origins of my family, this site seemed more or less spot on for where most people of the same surname live. Although at 84 occurences per million just a comple of families is enough to turn a county purple. Anyway, I was most impressed, then again other peoples research always seems more interesting than your own. Probably due to the fact you are not doing it day in day out!

    Room 101

Just had to share this, whilst looking up what Boris said about Hillsborough, Bigley etc. I found out his full name. Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson. I had a quick scan through the article at the surnames listed and can only assume that de Pfeffel was meant as a christian name. (Al Johnson). Ordinarily I'd say he probably got a lot of stick for that at school but seeing as he went to Eton it was probably one of the more common names. To veer sharply back on topic - anyone got a middle name they'd like to throw into room 101?

I was going to add something to the effect that "i'd never thought I'd hear myself say this..." but I thought I had already done enough borderline xenophobic ranting on outsourcing that I didn't want to come over all Boris Johnson as well.

I don't want to start another debate in the House of Commons about race relations. I find that on a personal level I prefer the curteous manner I get from our man in Mumbai. However, from previous experience I now tend to be reassured by a Scouse accent when it comes to issues such as car insurance to make sure I am actually insured. Though I must say thanks to outsourcing I did manage to have my car for a year to explore the neighbouring countries. At least Belge has its benefits - you don't have to travel far to escape it once in a weekend while. I would be interested to know how many jobs have been lost in this country whilst those big greedy companies exploit take advantage of a cheaper workforce.

To the guy who phoned Sky I have a little hint for you... http://www.saynoto0870.com/search.php You can usually find a geographically located phone number and if you are lucky a free phone number. Even if it is not the right department just demand to be put through. (This can sometimes work for foriegn call centres if you find out their switchboard number and ask to speak to someone in the UK who (I hope) is not going to ask for the mobile phone number of Belgium!!!) Which leads me to ask SttG - did you re-register your car in France? If not who are you insured with back in blighty? More Than insured me last year, agreed to a renewal then decided there was a problem and said last year was a mistake and please could I leave my car in the UK or get Belgian insurance - like I am going to enter into even more Belgian bureaucracy I am already paddleless in a brown murky creek of unresolved effluent bullshit. As for More Than, I blame the Russian roulette of multi-regional call centres and incompetent Customer Managers. In fact as Belgium is more than likely to already be in room 101, I wish to place the word manager in room 101. It is over used and in fact very misleading. Most of the customer managers I have spoken to at aforementioned company would be hard pushed to manage the preverbial in a brewery. That's lucky.

Pointing out the gaping holes in this ridiculous statement may be fun but trying to get our esteemed member from the eastern United States to see sense isn't worth the effort. It'd be infinitely more rewarding and manifestly easier teaching a dog advanced quantum mechanics. Please stop encouraging Banshees by replying. Schrödinger, he had a dog too? Damn is that the time...I'll get me coat.

This one doesn't need translating... Who ever said Belgians were dull? I have watched this several times in the last two days, just found the version with subtitles so had to watch again. Enjoy.

Your comparison is out of bounds. Acting is a whole different thing all together. It is known that Larry David wrote for Seinfeld and that many writers put together shows on TV. I've said all I needed to say, of course you can be a talented singer and sing songs you never wrote, but in my opinion if you have no talent of composing words or music, you shouldn't be looked at as somebody so great. They don't compare with those who do so. It is very fake to me. By the way, we all know Seinfeld wasn't real life. Okay I understand where you are coming from now. The likes of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Pavarotti and Billie Holiday should, under no cirumstances, be looked upon as great and thus of no comparison to songwriters such as Tim Rice, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Mike Stock, Matt Aitken and Pete Waterman to name a few. Not forgetting that Busted and McFly write their own songs AND play their instruments thus making them supremely more talanted than any classically trained opera star. Then there is the occasional songwriter such as Janis Joplin? Subjective I know but I think she had a great voice shame she didn't write all her own material - do you descend a few rungs of the ladder so that you don't have to look down as far for someone like her? Oh hang on a minute not all songwriters compose the music and not all musicians write the lyrics. Now where does that leave us in the grand scheme of who we should look down upon? I think that's enough holes for now.

    Are You Being Served?

Well predicted that man, the bitter faced old hag was wittering on Radio 4 within half an hour of the announcement... 'Lovely man - my partner and I have been visiting him daily - blessing as the end of his suffering'... (not clear if this was due to his illness or having to look at Wendy's sour mush) Pam St. Clement? Sorry, just going by the stereotypical use of the word partner.

Would you also look down upon those songwriters that cannot sing? Would you berate cabaret singers who just manage to scrape by making a living singing in dingy clubs? They may not be a Sinatra or a Spears yet they sing a damn sight better than me! They still have talent and ability. The majority of the world's population are not be the best in their chosen field, that would be impossible, it just so happens that some careers tend to lead to fame and publicity. You could take this example into any career and frequently there will always be more than one person working on a project. As they say there is no I in team. Everyone has a place in society. On the premise that someone's perfomance is based on anothers work you would thus have to look down on the cleaner who uses commercial detergents, or the Pope for preaching from a ca. 2000 year old book, or the doctor saving lives based on tried and tested methods. Heck on this principle, you'd probably have to look down on your granny for reaching for the OXO, Betty Crocker etc. everytime you went to tea.

To give them their dues they are not quite at the student end of "bottom of the market". A good friend of mine (who incidently studied maths) had a formula we used to stick too when purchasing our pre-club aperatif. The elegance is in its simplicity. "Price per volume". It tended to be the £2.49 deal of the week at Jamie Oliver's favourite supermarket chain. Lambrusco and all those under £2 were instantly ruled out as being below 12%, which was the number to aim above. Believe me, that was a step forward. Before uni it was always the generic cinzano and martini that won through at around 15%. Coming from Hampshire one drank this neat from the bottle of course, as one must have standards. You just can't buy class.

    Fidel Castro

Who is to say whether the Devil takes an interest in Castro's BJ or whether he/she would wish to be separated from such a thing? I apologise, I have asked the experts and it appears we are both wrong. Your phrase in Latin can stand, with the accusative, based on your choice of verb. However it is the translation into English that is wrong. It should read as simply Castro fellates* devil. Nothing more, as that introduces the dative (hence my earlier question as I was going from English to Latin) and indeed a different verb dare - to give. *Or maybe blows in modern day English

I think the expression I am searching for is a sh*t sandwich but I can't remember exactly. My friend was explaining that when his company were "letting go" of some of the employees he had to give out some of the aforementioned sandwiches by sandwiching the bad stuff between nicely phrased compliments. Hence unless someone corrects me on the actual phrase, I think TLC, you've just given BS a Danish sh*t sandwich and a well presented one at that!

At least there is a slight delay before they all leap on board. I've noticed here in Belgium they really don't know how to queue. Train approaches everyone hustles and bustles to get to the front overtaking grannies without even the slightest care. Then when the train stops they crowd the entrance so you can't get off and even then they don't think to shift their arsemaking you walk around them close up to the edge of the train. This is a tame rant of my Belgian existence. I have thus far refrained from venting my spleen and enter into postwhoredom on this thread for fear of upsetting any Belgian Deathlisters. Then again the treatment I've received in this country as an EU citizen is actually quite shocking. I never thought I'd see the day when I would willingly vote for UKIP. I always thought I was pro-Europe till this one small country changed my viewpoint entirely.

But Sinatra had fruit thrown in his face and crowds didn't approve of his legendary voice so much untill he got older. By the way, he also won an academy award as an actor so he wasn't only famous for his singing. And for banging Marilyn Monroe. He was like jack of all trades. Elvis Presley was the king of Rock N Roll, I thought he wrote most of his songs? But even if he didnt, he was the first guy on television to dance like a puppet on cocain. He could sing, he was an actor, he was something the world had never seen. You get the point. It wouldn't matter if they didn't write all the songs they sung, it was more then one trade that made them great. And i'm sure they still wrote their songs. Brittany Spears can't be compared to people like this. She don't live on the same block. Is that the same block J Lo's from?

Apparently she wrote or co-wrote some of the tracks on a third album so does that earn her the title of singer then? I can't say I have heard any of them. I was too busy watching the paint dry on the crumbling old wall.
