Plenty of pictures appearing on the social media feed - I'm thinking the new trainers (usually good for about 500 miles) are maybe a touch over-ambitious given the mobility of the two older ones in the photo

    Crashing Companies

From Honez recent post on the deaths of 2008 thread......I take the point that thread is for people. But global markets are feeling the jitters and the odd airline, corporate giant or bank is always rumoured to be failing. So - since we speculate on the amount of useful life life wherever we find it - I reckon our recession watchers could use this here thread.

A visit from "Blondie" doesn't like he's totally with it
  6. I'm guessing the DDP and HPDP will throw up loads of candidates fit for a paragraph and unfit for a busy thread or proper obit. Mebbe a good idea to collect such creatures on one thread so's those of us with an - ahem - sporting interest can keep tabs on 'em. I'll cop for having such an interest in Rachil Jonze, who might just be this year's Ms Groves. Similarly Ian McNicol may afford us that combination of brief media coverage and ongoing ranter fire we've come to know and love over the years. and Dawn Hughes' illness was the subject of television coverage as part of Channel 4's 'Mummy Diaries.' She's also made appearances on BBC television and the BBC web site, her husband works for the Beeb. Then there's everyone's favourite pin up: Winnie Langley. I took a long-shot punt on her for the DDP mainly because I thought if she went the various papers who'd covered her 100th birthday wouldn't be able to resist running that great picture again. Anyone else gonna cop for long shot picks before OoO and NAP do their duty and reveal all?

    Falling Fauna

Two of the five horses that bolted in London yesterday are in a serious condition - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-68895233 Nowt on the state of the other three, so I guess their condition is "stable" (arf!)

    Dead Pop Stars

Dead on Wiki too - which helpfully has a list of his songs as recorded by the Moodies, that'll make it easier for any cult radio show that just happens to have an annual List of the Lost edition on the first weekend of the New Year!

Some interesting demolitions of her book here:

MPFC says Sinwar is on his DDP team, and this is what I was fearing. The man may well see 2025, then

He hauls me into the top 40 - I'm trying to make my mind up whether I'm playing the long game or just having yet another average season.

    Spanish Civil War Veteran(s)

By 2011 we'll be running short of notable veterans of the Spanish Civil War, I've got points riding on: Santiago Carrillo Amedeo Guillet Lou Kenton and Bernard Knox dying by the end of the current CPDP, but if they stumble into 2011, they'll be doing very well to stumble out of the other end of it.

    Football Manager Sacking Bingo 3

Aye, a fair point - Carlisle could do with the four teams above them being deducted 20 points each! Even the EFL wouldn't contemplate that!

    Football Manager Sacking Bingo 3

Bear in mind they're in a playoff position (5th) but the two teams just outside the playoffs could overhaul them on Saturday. Barnsley and the two teams just outside (Oxford and Blackpool) all have games against teams with nothing to play for so the form book says Barnsley are in the playoffs, but still a daft time to ditch the manager, unless you've tapped up a better one and that person's in place by 12-30 Saturday

    The 100 Club

Dipping into this serious book on ufology this morning by way of researching summat, thought to put the dates of birth and death of Sturrock into what I'm writing only to discover he's still around and turned 100 last month: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_A._Sturrock Definitely the chance of an obit somewhere, esp.the kind that'd count in the more permissive pools

    Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

Think so too, also think there are a few factions out there incl. Braverman's little posse all of whom think they are in with a chance - if Sunak is in the position of facing a vote it'll likely get divisive, ugly and do nowt for their already dire poll ratings.

    Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

Yeah, thinking an anti-Tory vote round my way probably doesn't make that much difference. Current prediction on Electoral Calculus is that the Tory lead comes down from 35% to 17%, but they're back in.

    Political Discussions And Ranting Thread

Suella Braverman on the Today programme a few minutes back spent the opening part of her usual grandstanding interview going over righteous stuff about how she works for her constituents etc., and why the job of the party is to win the next general election. So she thinks there's a chance of a leadership election before they go to the country, then

    Donald J Trump

The irony being RFK is more in need of votes than the two yer man was railing against before he went up in flames.
  22. maryportfuncity

    Donald J Trump

Aye, maybe a bit subtle with the irony there by way of updating the thread to record the poor sod's death. Already seen some online banter about going straight to interring the ashes since the man himself thoughtfully arranged the cremation without stiffing his family with the costs!

    Donald J Trump

It'd be a nice touch if Trump bothered to attend the funeral, though https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68863157
