    Ideas and possibilities for 2008

On AOL searching 'John Phelps + world champion' leads to the story already linked. A few stops down you get this making it obvious that champioship hairdressing is as much a vanity sport as the real thing, doubt we'll see it in the Olympics anyday soon. So Phelps is as much Leona Lewis as Carl Lewis, sort of thing. Re the comparison with cancer riddled 14 year olds, take yer point but DDP points rely on newspaper articles and the truth is John Phelps would still be summat of an outside bet IMHO. For starters the article linked to his mention here is a local paper. If - for example - a former member of a dodgy old band like The Sweet were ill believed dead I have a hunch 'The Sun' would be on it already.

Doubt it, in fact I'd be dubious about him getting the bare qualification for the DDP of a tabloid paragraph. They like more freakish stuff so I'm seriously thinking of nominating Winnie Langley to puff her last in 2008, but this guy.....not sure.

Formula 1 & Other Motor Racing

Ben Collins, someone in the office swears he is the main Stig and they use others - like from an acting agency - for shots like the public transport journey through London.

Formula 1 & Other Motor Racing

That would be this guy then. I had a hunch the new Stig would've been younger, especially given his speed compared to the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Mark Webber. But Lawro knows his motorsports. And the Daily Express grassed him, according to the Wiki article and Top Gear didn't comment.

Formula 1 & Other Motor Racing

Not sure about Damon, he's a surprisingly busy boy and might struggle with all of The Stig's filming. But the Top Gear lot were a bit evasive about whether The Stig was an F1 driver. There was that odd little 'might be' comment.

    The Dead - 2007

How sad.I was pleasuring myself while looking ata picture of her only a few days ago too Thanks for sharing this with the group. I guess that's the kind of relationship where you never have to say sorry.

Formula 1 & Other Motor Racing

One of those office debates I thought might get answered if I posted the question here. Who is currently The Stig? Somebody swears his name is Ben Collins, someone else says they rotate a number of Stigs of similar size and weight. Anyone - like - know the truth?

    The Dead - 2007

Nowt online yet but the BBC just reported Mike Donkin - long time correspondent - has filed his final report, or summat.

Re Art's high speed accident...can't find it on You Tube, is there a film of it anywhere?

    Missing In Action

They're from Hartlepool a town famous for people so thick they found a monkey in the wreck of a French warship and hung it thinking it was a Frenchman, or summat.

Aye well, it's a matter of taste and that. The one thing I like is the way all the deadpools are different. You'd think local knowledge etc etc would count but my best performance so far is on the CPDP. Lying 5th last time I looked on DDP thanks - partly - to the ultra famous Dorothy Webb and Josie Grove, well behind a bunch of teams sporting a selection of hanged Iraqis.

How does Ron Darwin qualify? He just happens to be the dad of a caneoist that went missing I would hardly call it "fleeting fame" There is apparently an 80 year old aunt to consider as well. Maybe one could devise an entire theme team around the Rise and Fall of John Darwin. If one so desired. Oi you're missing the point and there's a whopping giveaway in the post anyway. 'Tabloid paragraph' is good enough for DDP points and if this story rumbles on as appears likely into unravelling the mystery, followed by court cases over attempted insurance fraud and the life insurers wanting their cash back then that conspiciously ill dad might get more than fleeting fame and may just find it all too much. Sure it's sick, parasitic and a long shot into the bargain but....from the DDP rules: As the Josie Grove is my Joker posse on the current DDP have found: 'Who Dares Wins' or summat.

    Derby Dead Pool 2008

Pick the squad who'll be flying furthest to get to Euro 08 and list their 20 most famous players. Since they'll doubtless be flying on an East European plane to get there.............well, it solves your trouble with 20 names eh? A decent paper would print the names of all the dead.

    Michael Barrymore

Compensation for Lubbock's dad which he says he'll put into fighting for justice for his son. Barrymore might have reason to be worried, but the whole lot amounts to less than seven grand!

    Football

My apologies, since there was some discussion about League One in the last week I really should have updated the league table. This is as it stood at close of business tonight. Re Oldham, the good news is that Gillingham appear to be on the brink of joining Luton in the 'oh sh*t we've overspent beyond safety' club, depending on which stats you believe they're 12.5 to almost 14 million in debt. 10 points gone soon methinks. Oh aye, that league table, after our thumping 3-0 win tonight:

    Deathlist 2011

'Happily' back? I mean, she's still a long shot as far as deadpools are concerned but there are some hard-line cases loose in the UK, and they know - just about - where she lives.

Authors Last A Long Time, But....

Heard a discussion on radio that mentioned Ian Allan is still alive. Published his first notable book about trains in 1942 and founded a small publishing dynasty, so an obit beckons, as and when.

Long shot but I've just heard Ron Darwin the 90 year old dad of 'missing' caneoist John Darwin attempting to string a sentence together in response to his son's re-appearance. Doesn't sound too coherent, and given his fleeting fame might well get a tabloid paragraph if the shock proves too much and he carks it early in 2008.

John Darwin, missing presumed dead until he turned up in a police station at the weekend.

    Death By Jazz

For all the shameless boozing and schmoozing of George Melly and his ilk the disgusting good health enjoyed by 79 year old Horace Silver makes a career in jazz look healthier than marathon running. A salutary warning to those of us seeing the old jazzers as soft targets.
