I tend to separate business taxation from personal taxation. Amazon, Costa Lotta and all of those other multinationals that fiddle like fuck to avoid paying the going rate need to be hung out to dry, that's a given. Personal taxation? I take more of a pragmatic approach. Take Mike Ashley, the general consensus is that he is a cunt, a billionaire cunt, mind you. He started out with his Dads market stall, IIRC, and turned it into a multi billion pound business that employs thousands directly and indirectly. He did not create his empire because he is a philanthropist, he created it because, I assume like most other business people, he did not want to work from anybody else and wanted to be rich. He took the business gambles, the risks of failure and every other obstacle and built his empire. Because he had the balls to create he is solely responsible for the opportunities for others to have jobs, mortgages, food on the table and the self esteem that comes from earning a wage. Lets just also say that not ALL of his staff are on zero contract hours either, and while it's not a type of contract I am happy with people ARE happy with such contracts and nobody forces anybody to go and work under one. Outlawing them will create job losses, I'm fucked if I should be picking up the tab for that. So, in effect, he alone is responsible for putting millions into the economy, every employee earning, paying NI and tax. On that basis, for me, if he wants to find ways around paying the highest rate of personal tax then good luck to him! His business, however, should pay what it should pay, that's fair. What I do not want is this blanket 'Tax the Rich' bollocks to create a state where people like Ashley fuck off to Monaco or somewhere and relocate his business elsewhere where the going rate is way less than the minimum wage is here. That is utterly fucking stupid. I know the young twat Hatter got ribbed for his speech a few posts back but, essentially, he is correct. We need Mike Ashley and his ilk more than he needs us. I'm not a great fan of Capitalism but, having looked around, it is probably as good as it gets. Well, for now, anyway.

The honours system is archaic wank and should be abolished. As for celebs and the rich being advised of loopholes to save themselves paying high rates of tax, so what? Everybody in a job would pay less tax if it were possible. Nowt like bitter and resentful working class folk.
