The Remakable Banshees Scream
Captain Oates replied to Banshees Scream's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I go along with The Pooka (but please don't bring back LCR!) and would not like to see BS excluded. I find some of his critics much more tedious! If what Windsor says about threats to abuse personal ID information is correct, then that problem needs to be dealt with separately. -
I've just spent a couple of days working on a similar problem. I can't tell if the solution will be the same for you but my big discovery was that it's definitely better to have all the settings at 'detect automatically' rather than trying to set up IP addresses or even use the existing IPs. Go through all the settings in the router and in the IP protocol thingy in Windows and anything else you can find and make them automatic. That way, it doesn't matter if the router or the wireless adapter decides to allocate a different address which mine did regularly, God knows why! Oh, and I also downloaded the latest software for the wireless adapter. Good luck!

I once put all my worldly goods in the back of a tranny, but I went to Thailand to do so, not France... Happy hols, Cap'n! BHB Cheers BHB! I hope your tranny was better looking than ours is!

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007
Captain Oates replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
I've just discovered that this camp-site has free wifi, so I'm able to post this only one day late. Happy Birthday Lady G! -
Today we set off again, this time with all our worldly goods in the back of a tranny, so it's back to internet-cafe-life and incomprehensible French computer keyboards. I hope you all have as much fun as we plan to have!

Glad to see they've been dropping well in my absence. Update on the great escape: We've been living in a tent and getting soaked/sun-dried in one location and wind-dried in another. All very relaxing, the more so with us not having to return to the daily grind for a while. No doubt, starvation will provide its own challenges if we continue too long! For now, we're back in Essex (England) staying with friends for a few days with the purpose of buying/borrowing a big enough tranny van to move our possessions to storage in Lyon. Essex traffic congestion has further convinced us that we've made the correct decision to move! Even though we still don't have a permanent place to stay, we have a much better idea than before of what we might do and where we could do it. Internet is a priority, of course! French-style computer keyboards make spelling in 'gobbledygook' really easy - they're even worse than the German ones! Meanwhile, the ship's Cat is enjoying an extended summer holiday in the hills of Savoie. I'm keeping an eye on you lot when I can! (Cool new software, er.... where's my sig?) The next couple of months will be busy, but my 2008 lists are under construction. Yogi, I met a relation of yours outside an internet cafe in Lezignan; the Pyrenees are visible from there on a clear day - the foot-hills anyway. He was very charming and friendly and said "Woof...!" P.S. If any local DLer wishes to dispose of a roadworthy LWB high top tranny for a ridiculously low price in the next day or so, I might be able to help them out!

Birthdays, Births, Anniversaries ,etc ...for 2007
Captain Oates replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Thank you all for your birthday greetings! Champagne and cake was duly consumed! Yes CP, that was me. And a belated Happy Birthday to HCW and also to anyone else whose birthday I've missed in the past few weeks. -
In the next few weeks/months I might be around even less than recently. We're catching the 4.30am ferry to France and not coming back. I will, naturally, consider making an exception for a DL Convention or if someone offers me a lot of money for not very much work. I'm going to miss you guys so I'll be sure to drop by whenever I can manage it but the lack of a fixed abode is likely to make reliable internet access uncertain! Keep posting, folks, ...and keep dropping if you happen to be on The List! Au revoir!

To my knowledge we have at least four Matthews who post on Deathlist, of whom only two are gay. Does asexual count as gay?

Get your toddler that drum-kit (s)he keeps asking for. -
Nothing wrong with Susan - it's a very good name. Luckily my mother thought so too! But Room 101 would be crammed to the door with people who shorten Susan to Sue without the owner's permission.

Golf: The 19th Hole
Captain Oates replied to harrymcnallysblueandwhitearmy's topic in DeathList Forum
When I saw the link to this thread in the index, I thought "The March (not quite all the way) To The Scaffold." Oh well, I suppose even golf pros have to die, eventually. . . -
Oh...... YUK !

There is a story that exactly that happened at my secondary school, but sadly I think that is a myth too. There were plenty of PE teachers I would have gladly speared just for fun. Just like the myth that female PE teachers are raving dykes? I thought it was just at my school until later on when other people brought up similar stories (checking you've had a shower, telling people to do PE in their underwear if they don't have the proper uniform, checking whether your "female reason" for getting out of swimming this week is true)! All myth. Maybe. Edit -Anyone else click on the Gayest Referee link after the javelin incident? Raised a chuckle. Captain's Mate tells me that a girl pupil died as a result of being accidentally hit by a javelin at the girls 'version' of his (boys only) secondary school, so perhaps it isn't a myth after all. Female PE teachers are fair game - especially at girls schools like the one I went to! Having said that, the only female PE teacher whom I know for certain was a dyke was the most decent and least sadistic of them all.

Oscar Niemyer - just to give him a fair chance against the dead-cert TFM.
-
Oscar Niemeyer - because ..er, well just because . . . That's what my mother told me when I wasn't being given a choice. And it always worked for her!

Here's a poem that may very well originate from the Melly household. (In the form of a link so as to bypass DL's naughty-word filter!) R.I.P. George Melly

I don't have a TV but I happened to be in front of a set last December 31st and saw a New Year interview with the Archbish in which he talked about his cancer having returned, albeit in a non-aggressive manner - hence my inclusion of him in one of my lists for this year. If that is a recent picture of him in the article quoted above, he has certainly lost some weight since the beginning of the year.

YES!!!!!! Unique pick on Hartlepool, DDP and Poolofdeath. and look; a BBC obit. Good work, MPFC!

Yes, Windsor, you have him on DDP. So do I. And so do another 31 teams!
