    Ariel Sharon

Must say and admit I was kind of surprised to see him expire this way. After all that time in his coma I was hoping for him to open his eyes one last time and maybe even do one last hava nagila dance just like the old days. You will be missed Ariel Sharon.

    Nelson Mandela

I get the feeling he's gonna be hanging on off and on, on and off for a while yet. Keep in mind he has a lot of stamina and endured all kinds of horrors during those years he was imprisoned.

    Pete Seeger

Here's hoping he can hold on another few weeks as they are getting ready for the annual Clearwater Hudson River Revival the weekend of the 15th/16th and he's scheduled to perform some of his favorites and classics. About The Festival Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival "2013 Clearwater Festival will take place on Saturday and Sunday, June 15 and 16 at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, Westchester County, NY. Festival gates open to attendees at 9AM. Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival (aka “the Clearwater Festival” or “Revival”) features seven sustainably powered stages with diverse music, dance, storytelling and family-oriented programming as well as juried crafts, the Green Living Expo, the Working Waterfront with small boat exhibits and rides, an artisanal food & farm market, environmental education displays and exhibits, and the Circle of Song where audience participation is the focus. The festival is wheelchair accessible and most stage programming is staffed with American Sign Language interpreters. Inspired by Pete Seeger’s desire to clean up the river over forty years ago,Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival initially helped raise the funds to build the sloop Clearwater, which has since become a world-renowned floating classroom and a symbol of effective grassroots action. Today, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, Inc. is a non-profit organization that sails at the forefront of the nation’s environmental challenges. The revenue raised by the Revival goes to support Clearwater’s numerous educational programs and its work toward environmental and social justice—as well as keeping the sloop Clearwater afloat."

    Stranger Than Death

So I opened up the page for obituaries the morning before this morning and felt such joy and sorrow all at the same time. You know how that is when there are conflicting emotions within about something, well that's what happened. It turns out that one family is in double mourning as they have lost both a sister and a mother at nearly the same time. A mother and a grandmother within hours of each other. Staten Island mother, daughter -- bound by friendship -- die hours apart | SILive.com "- They were as close as a mother and daughter could be. Related by blood but bound by friendship, parent and adult child spent hours at each other’s side, exploring sales at shopping plazas and joining for weekly lunches. They shared family celebrations, a love for the Mets, even a first name. And on Saturday, Alice V. Mastroberti and her daughter, Alice P. Nasta-Gitter, died within hours of each other. When Mrs. Nasta-Gitter, 59, was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, her elderly mother was already a resident of Eger Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Egbertville. Despite her own discomfort, she visited her mother every day. Mrs. Nasta-Gitter died in Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton. Her mother died later that day at the nursing home; she was unaware of her daughter’s death."

All of Genoa City will mourn the passing of their longtime heroine and occasionally beloved matriarch. It's hard to believe it was only about 40 years ago that she first caught my attention as I turned the television dial that fateful day. Never did get into Y&R but would pop over to CBS at times to find out what was happening with all the impossibly good looking people there.

    The Rabbi Thread

this is an excellent thread topic Paul Bearer. I had been wondering where to list the dead rabbis but most times when one has been ready for listing I have thought maybe people wouldn't be too interested. Now with a thread perhaps they will be.

Joyous news has arrived that George and his son Georgie along with Bill Clinton and Peanut Farmer Carter will be joining the current President and his gorgeous wife Michelle at the opening of the George W. Nelson Mandela

Not necessarily. Intoday's world of modern medici.. In today's world of modern medicine a person can live for quite a while with lung fluid as there are machines which take the fluid out. Basically the medical team punches a hole into the patient, a tube is inserted and it drains into a collection box, It is a piece of electricity operated machinery so in case of power failures and lack of generators it could hasten Mr.Mandela into reaching Nirvana. However I think they'd pedal bicycles to generate electricity if it came to that as Mr.Mandela must live if he is to compete in the Olympics of 2016.

    Stranger Than Death

In more recently breaking news, aside from the deaths of the careers of several local politicians, there is the sad and yet sweet case of John and Mary, the Weingartners. A happy couple from most accounts and residents of Richmond Valley for more than 20 years, Mary crossed over on Tuesday the 25th of March and her family was happily arranging her funeral services and subsequent burial on Saturday the 30th day of March in this the year 2013. It seems her husband was not too keen on attending the Saturday service and ended up dead himself on the preceding day, Friday the 29th. Perhaps he couldn't find the right tie or maybe he was out of Brylcreem to slick down and style his hair. Well thing is he is dead as well. Mary and John both departed from their earthly covers at the hospital in Prince's Bay and were attended to by the fine folks at Bedell-Pizzo Funeral Home out on Amboy Road and then interred into the earth at Resurrection Cemetery. It is unknown by me whether or not Mary had her services changed to a different day after her widowed husband died. Mary Weingartner, 76 | SILive.com John Weingartner, 80 | SILive.com

    The 5th Death Of 2013

Since To Kill A Mockingbird was on the television viewing the other afternoon or night I feel it may have been a signal that Harper Lee has finally come to the final tick-tock of her life clock and have therefore voted accordingly.

    Nelson Mandela

This just in: BBC News - Nelson Mandela health condition improves - SA presidency "Nelson Mandela health condition improves Doctors treating former President Nelson Mandela for pneumonia report "a further improvement in his condition", South Africa's presidency has said. Its statement on Sunday evening, it said he "had a restful day" in hospital and continued to receive treatment. Mr Mandela, 94, has spent four days in hospital and there are no details yet on much longer he will stay there. Churches across the country have held prayers for Mr Mandela, who led the struggle against apartheid. In the statement, released shortly before the former leader was due to spend a fifth night in hospital, President Jacob Zuma thanked "the thousands of South Africans who prayed for Madiba at various Easter church services". Madiba is Mandela's clan name and is widely used to refer to him. At the Regina Mundi church in Soweto - once a focal point of the anti-apartheid struggle - several hundred people gathered to pray for Mr Mandela." so it would seem he is now on the mend!

    Fidel Castro

It isn't nice to make up tales about Uncle Fidy kicking the bucket. He was seen collecting daffodils recently which indicates a most assuredly good state of health.....although it might have been the body double which is sent around from time to time to uplift the spirits of the citizens and others.

    Nelson Mandela

Given his health over the years and his ability to surmount huge obstacles in life both in health and elsewhere, Mr.Mandela might just surprise us all and stick around several more years. I don't rule him out as making it towards the double 20 either, stranger things have been known to happen.

    Birthday Deaths

Strange as it may seem nobody has ever succumbed to the grip of the life ender on my birthday which happens to be rare on its own account even without the lack of death accompanying it. Further I have never found anyone else who shares my birthday. It makes me wonder.......Is September 31 really that special a day that no others wish to share it either for death or being born?

    The 3rd Death Of 2013

Hoping that it's Kissinger. I saw him in a television program last night and realized how dreadful looking his nose was with those hideous eyeglasses. For such a fashion disaster he must be the 3rd death of the year.

    Discuss The 2013 Deathlist

My initial reaction was there are a lot of people well past 90 which kind of shifts it to a stronger chance of getting hits. It's a list with many names I don't recognize and a few who I thought had already succumbed to the grip of death. Not really bad over all I am content for the most part with the picks.

    James Garner

I feel it needed to repeat what I said at the earlier time. While he is aging, he is well past that dreadful devastation of a stroke and much like Kirk Douglas will be around a long time yet. He was born in Norman Oklahoma and the people from there are known to live long lives......not always the healthiest but long. I think those years of him advertising for the beef industry may have caused some of his continuing health woes.
