He pretended to have pancreatic cancer too, once he started getting into legal trouble. Made him a cult dud pick in 2014, though unlike the Ryan Buells of the world it made you less "fuck this guy" and more kind of sad.

B-but... I thought his business was all about the interviews!

I drank waaay too much soda for the longest time, and was pretty sedentary. I grew up thinking if I didn't smoke or drink I'd be in the clear but addiction can take many forms. But I turned the ship around in recent years and I'll no doubt be thankful for that decision when my 50s come!

I've seen centenarians at my job, the oldest was 102. Didn't know anyone older than mid-80s on a personal level.

And that's me realizing after talking about this in the DDP thread that this poll was never properly closed. Nearly 4 years after the winner. Want to see how deadpoolers wisened up over the years? In May 2013 it was 7 Reverend votes and 16 Superstar votes. The two following years, Superstar got 4 further votes while the Reverend got 21 more...
-
That does remind me. In the early 2010s, there was a "Which Billy Graham dies first? Reverend or Superstar?" poll. The wrestling aficionados who truly knew what Superstar was like, ie msc and Spade, were about the only ones to correctly vote for the Reverend at the time!

INVERSE DEAD POOL 2021 No doubts 2020 was a bonkers year. Somehow we have survived it, but the same could not be said for 19 of the selectables for last year's Inverse Dead Pool. There were a number of hits that were selected by at least half the participants - Jill Gascoine, Michael Robinson, Little Richard, Olivia de Havilland, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Barbara Windsor (34 out of 36 teams!) - and the end result was the Quim Reaper winning with the highest score yet. But even as the farewells to Kirk Douglas and friends leave us wondering who could be left, fear not, there's still plenty of popular DDP pickings to root for the survival of... Rules From the list of the 50 most popular DDP picks of 2021, pick a team of 25 names who you think will survive the year. Rank your list in order of least likely to die to most likely to die. Post your team in this thread. If someone dies and they are listed on your team, then you will receive points according to their position. If your #1 pick dies you'll receive 25 points, whilst if your #25 pick dies you'll receive 1 point. If someone dies and they are not on your list, then you receive no points. In case one of the names available for entry dies before the submission deadline, you are allowed to have one sub. The sub can be anyone from the top 50 or the 51st most popular name, who will be revealed alongside the top 50. The 51st name can not be part of the original 25 if no one dies. In the case of one of your original team dying pre-deadline, the sub goes into 25th place by default, but if the sub was previously the 51st, you are allowed to change the position of the new pick. If the above scenario happens, you are also allowed to name a new sub and I will reveal the 52nd most popular name. Whoever has the lowest score at the end of the year is the winner. If two or more teams are tied at the end of the year, the tie will first be decided by who has fewer hits. If they have an equal amount of hits, then whoever among the teams died latest in the year, and thus came closest to being a correct prediction, will decide the winner. If said name was on multiple teams in the tie, whoever had said name lowest will win. If multiple teams had said name in the same position, the second most recently-deceased name will be referred to, and so on, until a winner is found. If, by some alignment of the stars, the tie is of either no hits or of all of the exact same hits in the exact same positions, all teams in the tie share victory. Credit to Toast for inadvertently coming up with a peach of a topic description, and of course, credit to Spade for creating this wonderful game. Credit to Dead Cow for his job as previous host, laying the framework for the Inverse Dead Pool's OP, and the idea for a "dies during entry period" rule. Credit to machotrouts for the suggestion of the latest hits factoring into tiebreakers. With the obits being written by another Superstar nemesis, Putski will be sure to have warm words if he goes... "DDP hosts who know wrestling/DDP hosts who don't know wrestling" and "hating Superstar Billy Graham" handshake meme goes here...

Vera Lynn charted early in the rock era, but didn't after the Hot 100 chart which began in 1958. George Burns was outside the top 40 - though tbf I didn't know until now he charted at all! Whereas Anthony made the top 10 in 1959 and the big charting hits was what I had in mind, as there might be another odd centenarian or two who peaked at #83 or something.

Ah, missed opportunity not to joker Gary U.S. Bonds on my theme team...

Alrighty. The great Sidney Poitier was not terribly popular here but still on two teams. 28 (20 + unique) for MariNisia, and 25 sub points for Toast. Robert Durst I choose to award crimes against humanity for, even if more typical murderers are less clear cut than dictators or some mumbly "diplomat" fella from the Nixon days. One murder he has been legally convicted for, two others, he painfully obviously was behind, and likely others we don't know about. So good enough for me. And so a Durst burst comes for five teams: 80 (50 base + 30 bonus) for markb4, 64 (40 + 24) for Book and Torva Messor, 32 (20 + 12) for Salmon Mousse, and 25 sub points for drol. After including Francis Jackson in his pole position for years, DevonDeathTrip finally reaps his reward with 50 base points and 20 bonus, for 70 in all. Too bad churches use organists rather than drummers! BBC's Jana Bennett was a hit for two teams. 30 points for both MariNisia and msc. Civil rights rabbi Israel Dresner another duet. gcreptile follows up his Burgess hit with a second 50-pointer, whereas Banana placed him further downteam and only obtains 15. The Tuskegee Airman may feel neverending as it feels like "totally, the last Tuskegee Airman died this year, honest" happens annually if not monthly. But no, their numbers are quite low now, and Charles McGee brings the total down even further. Pedro67 is the big winner here, with 45 base points and 18 bonus for uniqueness seeing him soar with a total of 63. Annami had oldest man Saturnino de la Fuente Garcia as a unique. 35 base points and 14 bonus points make an end result of 49. Finally, another proper bastard has died with Babes in the Woods murderer Russell Bishop. If I awarded crimes against humanity to Durst there's no question I'll do the same for a paedo and child killer - tbh I can't help but feel furious about the case and heartbroken for the poor girls when working on his DDP obit. But at least he's dead, so there's a bit of sunshine there. Book, CaptainChorizo, gcreptile, and maryportfuncity get 45 + 27 = 72. Banana, Kenny, and Salmon Mousse 40 + 24 = 64. msc 30 + 18 = 48. Toast 10 + 6 = 16. To paraphrase HPDP pick Frankie Valli, oh what a January! Our next scoreboard is onward, with a very impressive showing by Book in a mere three weeks. Time (not our time) will tell if this impressive momentum keeps up. Indeed, gcreptile may be a somewhat distant second right now but has some strong differentials of his own that should make for a cracking competition. 1. Book 245 2. gcreptile 172.81 3. Salmon Mousse 141 4. Banana 124.81 5. msc 118 6. CaptainChorizo 117 7. Pedro67 113 8. maryportfuncity 112 9. Kenny 99 10. Annami 94 11. markb4 80.99 12. drol 75 13. DevonDeathTrip 70 14. Torva Messor 64 15. MariNisia 58 16. theoldlady 50.82 17. An Fear Beag 45.81 18. Great Uncle Bulgaria 45 19. Toast 41 20. Perhaps 40 21. John Key 25.99 =22. Hell 0.99 =22. The Old Crem 0.99 =24. Everyone else 0

Catchup coming today. Getting started right now. Sidney Poitier, Robert Durst, Francis Jackson, Jana Bennett, Israel Dresner, Charles McGee, Saturnino de la Fuente, Russell Bishop. I think that's everyone? Plus Leonor Oyarzun is also a pick, but I can't see any QOs yet. Which may remain tricky given the Spanish-languages QOs are based in Spain, rather than South America.

Too many

I had him on my DDP shortlist in the day after he suffered a nasty stroke... in 2014.

When there was a tie for 50th I typically just random.org-ed to decide a solitary name. Obviously a bit too late for that now but could be future food for thought.
-
And no, I'm not going to Iain-ishly turn into all "Bob Goalby was my favorite golfer! I must change my avatar to acknowledge a true legend! Oh shit, my favorite Brazilian samba singer just die-" just in a vain attempt to kill off Kissinger...

Well done on a victory we all can celebrate, Banana

It's like when Sutcliffe balanced out Trebek. The Reaper seemingly goes "oh that DI is sad enough over someone to change her avatar, better give a cheerup..."

Behind-the-scenes names aside, the first centenarian hitmaker of the Billboard Hot 100. A name that prospered far more on the earlier US charts granted, as one might expect of a big band figure! His version of "Peter Gunn" is pretty good so nice to have him be the first.
-
Marsha Hunt is the most popular centenarian now. She won't be a D40 pick even if she reaches Lloyd age but didnt expect her to be on 18 teams! I guess potential future centenarians, Eva Marie Saint and Glynis Johns could have D40 potential if they make 100, both are on around 20 teams right now. Larry Storch leapt to 15 picks, but like Lear strikes me as too Americentric to really challenge the D40.

32 likes to spite Creep now. This has been the most inexplicably giggly I've been over a forum thing since Sri Sri mania...

Be grateful Ronnie Spector was a personal hero and not Igor Bogdanoff!

He's still around and seems to be doing well, let's just say he's l'enfant rather than the Kid these days.

Now that the pre-opening rush of deaths are all obited, I should be in a pretty good grove for the front page. Probably put out new obits, beginning with Charles McGee, every weekend or two. Ahh, I just had to have my Diana Rigg moment weeks into co-hosting... Anyone who I can write 900+ words for in the DDP is worth an icon change, even if Alex Trebek will always top my personal totem pole. Rest well, Ronnie.
