The man was spotted climbing the tower at about 14:45 local time (13:45 BST) and officers immediately intervened and arrested him, police said. No more details were immediately available on the man’s motivation and nationality. Videos on social media, external show a shirtless man scaling the tower just above the Olympic rings that have adorned it during the summer games. In another video, the man is escorted away, external by police, hands cuffed behind his back, and says to a bystander: "Bloody warm, innit?"

    I get that, but it's not really any different from someone with dual nationality picking a side so I don't see why UK would be a problem. I mean in full it's 'The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland', so it's all there anyway.

    I don't remember them calling it 'Great Britain & Northern Ireland' before. Just Great Britain. Is there a reason they don't use 'United Kingdom' ?

    There isn't a fair way to judge it. Is it fairer to rank by number of gold medals won, or by total number of medals? It'll never be fair because of the variation in populations and numbers of participants. Also nobody has mentioned the absence of Russians.

    The relay races are great. Lovely to see people rewarded who were disappointed in their individual races. Did I hear right, they were the only ones who weren't twins? ! not even sisters. That put them at a disadvantage from the start! Talking of twins, only just realised that there are two Nielsens who are identical twins. Lina and Laviai.

    To turn it round, I love giving people presents. It gives me great pleasure to find something that they would like.

    I do that, but usually keep it for birthday or Christmas. Christmas is a good time to set a price limit on presents, eg £3. It's more doable than people think, while still getting something the recipient will like. I don't rule out charity shop buys.

    I wish people would ask more often. Surprises are overrated. And near misses are frustrating, when you get something you want but the wrong sort. As for spending their money, I'm tired of couples who think it's OK to give me one present between them, when I've bought them each a decent present on their birthdays.

    I'm probably biased as I'm still recovering from Covid myself. It can still be quite a nasty illness. So I think he was fucking selfish. But that only confirms my impressions of the cunt.
