So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

I really, really love The Last Kingdom so have to disagree with your opinion that it isn't wonderful You're right about the ageing, but I find that tends to be the case with most series. They do manage to make Alfred look more and more ill as he approaches death, but his Mrs still looks as young as ever. As for Uhtred, his changing hairstyles seem to be a metaphor for ageing and I agree with GAB that he is most fetching. Some terrific characters though, with a changing array of adversaries, and while I often think I have guessed what's going to happen, it usually manages to surprise me. Really pleased that a fifth season has been confirmed, as it now looks like they'll take it right to the end of the story (13 books altogether and they've covered roughly 2 books each series, although I gather there are differences).

So .. What Do You Watch On TV?

I've watched about 8 episodes now and have revised my opinion. It's tripe. Repetitive tripe at that, every episode is basically the same. And some of the massive divergences from canon are really grating. I'm out.

From the front page: This is DeathList 2020. Below is a list of 50 celebrities which the DeathList committee has selected for their likelihood to pass away during 2020. DeathList has a few rules: Candidates must be famous enough such that their death is expected to be reported by the UK media; Candidates cannot be famous solely for the fact they are likely to die imminently and only 25 candidates can reappear from the previous year’s list. Right. It says "celebrities", which imo Gates senior is not. Since they specifically exclude FFBI, I am surprised that "family of the famous" aren't also excluded (unless they are notable for other reasons). But the Committee has form for the occasional weird pick, eg Ruby Mohammed who afaik wasn't famous for anything at all.

I'm not a regular churchgoer, but I do like to go to the traditional seasonal services. A couple of years back we had a visiting vicar for the Harvest Festival service. He'd come from an inner city parish somewhere, and in his sermon he went on for ages about the fresh country air and the lovely aromas of the countryside. Congregation all really struggling to stifle laughter because unbeknown to the visitor, it had been muckspreading week.

We got a couple of hours steady quiet rain and it's pleasantly fresh and cool outside now. Gin? I've got a superior Lidl one (Hortus), tonic is just Tesco I'm afraid. I did have a Fevertree Raspberry & Rose tonic in my gin down the pub the other day, that was nice. Waitrose own brand tonic compares well with the basic Fevertree it's probably the same

Lots of ominous rumbling here in the Kingdom of Wessex. It's got a bit overcast and there's a little breeze. God is moving the furniture about up there, but not emptying any buckets yet.
  9. I rather like some of the French expressions for 'died'. disparu ....... disappeared s'est éteint ...... was extinguished
  10. I didn't suggest that you "had an issue with it". You said " Surely you guys must have girlfriends or something? (apart from Quim Reaper for obvious reasons)" which implies that most of the guys are straight. Very amusing, but not really germane to the topic as I am not a guy. Sorry to disappoint, but I'm boringly hetero.

That's better. A piss-take is infinitely better than a misspelling.

There is absolutely nothing trivial about proper sausages.
  14. I'm glad this has been cleared up, because I was genuinely confused, having read about the wrestling guy on here yesterday.

OK, but if they're using proper sausages (and i'm not talking about those veggie wannabe horrors) then they're not hot dogs in my book.

It's not a hot dog! It's a proper sausage, in a bread roll.

Sorry to be the first to ask, but could we have the superfluous 't' removed from 'Pastimes' in the title? (I always think 'pastime' should have a double s, but it doesn't, so there we are.)

My mum was never up when I left for school in the morning, so I could have gone dressed like a Black Sabbath groupie for all she knew.

Oh, I get it now - you made it, and the second pic is yours. I'm not wild about sweetcorn, but the second one sounds more my kind of thing.

Eleven of my picks have died (plus one other with NQOs). For anyone unaware, there is no time limit on post editing in this forum. So the tidiest way of keeping your scores up to date is to go back to the post that contains your team, and cross out your picks as they fall off the perch.
  24. I was just enjoying a performance of Gimme Shelter by Lisa Fischer (with the Rolling Stones) when my eye was caught by some amusing comments.
