Been To Any Good Gigs Lately?
Toast replied to Brinsworth House Baiter's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul last night at Shepherd's Bush Empire. Totally unplanned as I was offered the ticket by an internet acquaintance whose missus couldn't go. Top gig, and the stranger whose car I happily jumped into did not turn out to be an axe murderer, so win-win. -

Things To Do While Waiting For Death
Toast replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Should this be a new thread, or hived off into one of the music threads? Only it doesn't really fit here. -
It's times like this that I remember that this is a grim break-up song and despite the languid summery feel, it has fuck all to do with a long hot summer, which only gets mentioned in the very last line.

Yeah, but when Sir Creep thinks they're too obscure ..... With all due respect, the fame level of many of the subjects of your posts is low to non-existent.

Well, like I said, that would be Janine. Which is fine. It's the silly spelling that gets to me. I see the name, and I see Jane and then it stops making sense.

Some actress who calls herself Janeane Garofalo. Now I imagine that's supposed to be Janine, but am I the only one who wants to say Jane Ann?

Britney Spears, Kerry Katona, Heather Locklear et al.

She's really only known for her marriage to Bryan Ferry. She has never been one to seek publicity and I doubt many people had even heard of her before she married Bryan - I certainly hadn't. I don't think I ever once saw her mentioned in the media unless it was in connection with Bryan or one of their sons. This thread is for the type of publicity-hungry C-listers who seem bent on their own destruction. As suggested by the subtitle "Useless daft bimbos". Merely "not having a proper job" (in your opinion) doesn't qualify. -
Or Leah Bracknell?

Ooh, I'd be quite good at that. Until it got to those pesky Oceanic island nations. And the Caribbean.
-
Not a widow. She is still 'family of the famous' as she is the mother of Bryan's kids. This is not as bad a crime as putting her in the 'useless daft bimbos' thread though. She was no Kerry Katona.

I've never watched it, but it sounds typical of the padding that put me off watching a lot of TV. It happened with Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, too much time-wasting chat and not enough questions. And those programmes that fill half their time with endless recaps and "Coming up"s.

She doesn't belong in here either! -
Family of the famous thread, shurely? Or have I missed something?

There are some words which seem to have unfortunately acquired a bolted-on adjective which isn't always appropriate. "Christian" is often turned into "born-again Christian". After hearing a neighbour repeatedly describe some other neighbours as "born-again Christians" I investigated further and found that they were just a pair of lifelong practising Christians who went to church regularly and were involved with church activities. So, just Christians then. As someone who can speak and understand a bit of French, I get very irritated by hearing people tell other people that I speak "fluent French". It may sound fluent to you, you ignorant monolinguist, but being able to get by is a long way from "fluent". I find this happens a lot as people don't seem to understand what "fluent" actually means. Any similar offers?
