Well, sir, I guess there's just a meanness in this world.

  2. Bugger, was Inside No 9 on there again?  Haven't seen all of those.

Trouble with all the old series you mention is I've seen 'em.  Back when there were only 3 or 4 channels and no internet you tended to watch all the good stuff.

Agree about House Of Cards.  "You might think that, but I couldn't possibly comment".  Brilliant and unforgettable.

In the US of A 'hospice' is a service, not a place.  Also, over here a hospital is a building, so we say someone went to 'the hospital' (like the store, the concert hall, the whatever).  I'm not sure why 'the' is left out on your side of the Pond, though I suspect it's a service and not a place -- but I always leave it out when I'm on this site out of politeness.

A hospice in the UK is a specialised sort of hospital dedicated to nursing terminally ill and dying patients.  Only palliative care.  Sometimes they admit long-term terminal patients who are not yet on the brink of death, in order to give temporary respite to family carers.  That's common with hospices for children.

I think we don't say "the hospital" because it sounds like there is only one!   We either use it as a general term ('she's in hospital') or we are more specific and use the name of the hospital* ('she's in St Thomas's').

*Sometimes this can be impenetrable to non-locals.

She Is at home though.you can  have hospice care at home

    Was anybody saying otherwise?

The clarification is welcome, as in the UK we do not tend to use the phrase "hospice care" when the patient is at home.

Most of us would understand it to mean that the patient is IN a hospice.

Fascinating idea, but I probably won’t participate in this one since it would require more time than I have on my hand, especially with school coming up. I think others who do have time should participate here though...

Huh?  You have to pick three people.  Hardly onerous.
