Mr Singularity Ray Kurzweil, 76 and 80 supplements a day, is worth a mention as well i think. -

Sounds like a nice guy:

Legit question, they almost started to doubt themselves, but Nicklaus is of German descent and this took place at a golf club in Sligo (where Nickolson's mom came from). My mom even sent me pics of the helicopter as evidence (but that doesn't prove anything)
-
My parents did drove along the Irish west coast last month, and at a certain moment they saw a motherfuckin huge helicopter at a golf course. When asking around they heard it was Jack Nickolson's, and that he came by regularly. I'll ask them if they still know which course it was.

With all those survivors from early lists dying this year I really think it's time for a Leo Beenhakker thread, the sole survivor of the 1991 list. Been willing to start one for many years (in fact, every time I read a snippet of news on him) but never really took the time, but I will for sure regret it if he passes away without thread. He's the former football trainer of (among many many other clubs) Real Madrid, Ajax and Feyenoord and of the Netherlands, Trinidad and Tobago and Poland national team. I have no clue why he was on the 1991 list (i hope anyone else can shine a light on that) but but he's an avid cigar smoker, has had skin cancer in 2015 and he looks pretty pale nowadays. Plus he's 78 years old. He announced his retirement from the football world in 2015 but most likely he still is some kind of off-the-radar technical advisor at Sparta Rotterdam. Last news i can find is a radio interview in april this year, with Beenhakker complaining about sitting at home and feeling his life was over without being able to meet people and watching football.

Great find! Though I would need to be extremely lonely before willing to talk to Jack van Gelder (even though I once was very fond of him, but i was still a child and loved Ter Land, Ter Zee en In De Lucht).

De Volkskrant calls her 'the last known living Engelandvaarder'. I think they're right, so we can move on the last living Dutch WO II veterans and last living members of the Dutch resistance (if any..) Edit: according to this site, there were 60 veterans still living earlier this year, against 90 in 2023 and 166 in 2022.
-
Ellis Brandon (101) dead. The article says 'oldest living Engelandvaarder' which suggests there must be others still alive. But not clear who they might be.

Mick, Michael Schumacher's son, was in the F1 in 2021-2022 and might return next season. Ralf was in the F1 from 1997 to 2007 and competed against Michael.

Since i was posting about Gagarin in the Dead Pop Stars threat i looked up how good ol' David is doing now.. he peformed 2 weeks ago to celebrate his 71th birthday, and he is in an electric wheelchair now (which might not be a bad idea)
-
Wanted to share this but it has already been mentioned. Didn't expect David Thomas to outlive him, and didn't know Gagarin was almost 70.. Here's a tribute by Keith Moliné: https://2uaz8.r.bh.d.sendibt3.com/mk/mr/sh/OycXxlTDIzvGTZOmo4WLa2rZ/gT0IU5zvjUF6

William Cameron (100) dies the day before flying over to France. But there are still 13 Canadian veterans (99-104) in the delegation.

Inspired by Eriksson, Georg Koch is in the middle of a similar tour himself. Dutch link.

Useless trivia: I just learned that he was the ex-husband of Ruth Jacott (Vrede #6 in 1993, a little better known I think), so she was one of his background singers in 1992, and he was one of hers in 1993.

And, looking at the post above last one.. Lenny Kuhr was heckled during a concert last week because of her (alleged?) pro-Israel stance: https://www.dutchnews.nl/2024/03/activists-heckle-singer-lenny-kuhr-74-over-israel-links/ .

Humprey Campbell (66), #9 in 1992 for The Netherlands, has died. (Never heard Wijs me de weg before today, so it didn't become a Eurovision evergreen..)
-
I read an interview today with Thérèse Steinmetz, second to last at 1967 Eurovision for The Netherlands. She still performs and I've never seen a better looking 90 year old (but well, most likely not all natural) - Greetje Kauffeld (#10 in 1961, 84 now) is interviewed as well and is also still in good shape.

It was once again pretty quiet on the Pere Ubu front (they released a new album but did only a few shows) so I decided to look for any updates.. And i found an update from David Thomas a few days ago. There has been a lot going on, he married his gf/manager, he's been in the hospital and has had operations which were like hell.

With the new year approaching i decided it was a good opportunity to look for any clues about Beenhakkers current health.. but no news at all.. no new pictures, no new interviews, not even a response when Feyenoord won the Eredivisie. So we need an insider...
