Former WWF star Andrew "The Test" Martin has been found dead. He was just 33 years old. http://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=37176&p=1 He's somewhat of a big name amongst WWF fans. He's also the first young celebrity to die this year.

With Bernie Madoff spending the rest of his life in prison, what do you think are the odds of him being done in by an inmate?

A part of me admires Patrick Swayze for putting up an amazing fight against Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Truth is, he shoulda been dead 6 to 8 months ago. How does he continue to live (and frankly, continue to take this punishment)? A part of me however is simply impatient and honestly, resentful. I mean, how the hell can he survive pancreatic cancer for 15 months? Does he get some kind of preferential treatment b/c he's a (relatively) famous celebrity? Is there some kind of magical procedure to take care of pancreatic cancer that is accessible only to famous celebrities (e.g., Patrick Swayze, Steve Jobs, probably Ruth Blader Ginsburg)? Seems like all the people who have survived pancreatic cancer are big shot celebrities (Swayze, Jobs, Ginsburg). Stage 4 pancreatic cancer is extremely lethal. Other than big time celebrities, most people last 6 months with pancreatic cancer. One of my father's best friends last three months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Another family friend lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in 6 months. One of my favorite actors, John Phillip Law, lasted only 6 months before succumbing to pancreatic cancer. So you see why I resent Swayze a bit. Everybody I know who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer supposedly had a much milder form, but they lasted a few months at best.

Put down March 20, 2009 as the date Jade Goody goes to Heaven (or Hell) for me.
-
Isn't Jade Goody dead yet? the media was hyping up the promise that "Jade Goody" would have only "hours to live." But that was two days ago! she's still alive!
-
A miraculous drug for a miraculous recovery. Maybe she won't be sharing a kebab with Diana in heaven quite so quickly after all. Damn! I hope not! It's getting real boring in terms of lack of celebrity deaths. We also haven't had any young celebrities die this year either so Goody would be the first (if she can be considered a "celebrity"). and no, Lux Interior does not count b/c he was already 62 years old.

Jeez, how can Jade Goody take all this punishment? I'm shocked she's still alive.....

I call bull$hit. Another one of those "this celebrity is gonna imminently die soon!!!!" teasers. I'm really sick and tired of these bull$hit articles. I guess it's a desperate attempt to sell newspapers by trying to appeal to people's obsession with the moribund, especially if they're celebrities. There's been a spate of articles lately proclaiming that all these famous celebrities are about to die soon. Yet we haven't exactly had an avalanche of celebrity deaths lately...
-
We haven't had a famous American celebrity die since James Whitmore so I'd say that it's about time... Ed McMahon is gonna die soon. An 85 year old rarely survives pneumonia.... He's also had a myriad of health problems for years and his financial struggles haven't helped him one bit... It's probably time for him to go. He's led a great life and while I'll certainly miss him, I won't be sad b/c I know he's had an otherwise great life even if his last few years have been dire...

Jade Goody is getting a lot of attention in America now... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090222/ap_on_..._tv_star_cancer

If Michael Jackson does die within the next year, I will forever leave this site. Bet on it. If MJ does die, and I come back to post on this site, the mods can be ban me. I'm willing to do that. Even if he gets run over by a car? Or involved in some kind of accident? Or murdered? Well, I thought this related to Michael Jackson being "gravely ill." That was what I was referring to in my original post. The intent of my post was to see how "real" these rumors of him being gravely ill were... Anyway, I'm very confident that the rumors of Jackson's ill health are just rumors. I'm so confident that I'm willing to be permanently banned from this site if it turns out that Jackson does die from his supposed lethal illness. I know many of you don't like my Yankee arse, but yes, I'm putting my Yankee arse on the line just to show much how bulls*it these rumors are. Again, I will reiterate, MJ has major psychiatric and mental health issues and he needs immediate counseling.

This is yet more BULLS*IT from a washed up artist desperate for media attention. I honestly think a lot of has been celebrity these days are trying to drum up attention by claiming they are "imminently dying." I'm not sure why, but pretending you are about to die soon is a surefire way to get attention, especially from a society that has a morbid fascination with celebrity deaths. I will say I think Michael Jackson has major mental health and psychiatric issues and he needs immediately counseling. That I'm sure of.

Wikipedia is the absolute worst when it comes to reporting "fake" celebrity deaths!!!! It really pisses me off that there are douchebags there who like to claim that all these famous people have died when they're doing just fine. Why do these douchebags do that? It's not like they're gonna get any attention for this...

How acutely you've captured the collective impact of your whiny posting here, and I say that as one of the least interesting posters on this forum. When even I'm complaining that you're boring, you know that's bad. Nobody cares thats you haven't busted a nut over a fresh celebrity corpse lately. Seriously, all you ever post is your complaints that people aren't dying fast enough; go live in the Gaza Strip or Sub-Saharan Africa if you're really that bored or, better yet, recreate the experience of a celebrity death by scattering money around you and drinking the stuff under your sink. And it's not even legitimate writing. Just today, one of the Arab language's greatest writers, Al-Tayyib Salih, died. I know those "dirty orientals" aren't of any value to you (as per your opinion on the Palestine-Israel conflict and how great it is that they're all dying), but I thought I'd point it out anyways. P.S. Animal deaths go in the "animal antics" thread. I love you too! BTW, I have never once said it was great that all those Palestineans were dying in that conflict. I pointed out that b/c of Obama, the Israel-Palestine war abruptly ended. P.S. I don't give a darn if you think I'm whiny. I like being whiny over the Interet. It lets off much steam. BTW, I'm tellin' ya, if we keep up this pace, 2009 is gonna be a veeeeeerrry slow year for celebrity deaths. At the rate we're going, the 2009 "In Memoriam" segments will include tributes to Jett Travolta, Travis the Chimp, and Mickey Rourke's dog. Seriously, dude.

YAAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNN!!!! It's been a reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll slow time for celebrity deaths lately. The most significant celebrities to have died in the past few weeks ... are freakin' animals. Anyway, two prominent celebrities have passed away. Both of them animals. You know that celebrity deaths have dried up lately when dead animals make the front page news. Anyway, Mickey Rourke's pet dog has gone to doggie heaven: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedishrag...ey-rourkes.html And Travis, a once "famous" movie star animal, has been killed after going homicidal: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/...p-attack-1.html

never heard of him...nor the film ! I'm an entertainment buff and even I have never heard about him! What does that say about Philip Carey's notability? LOL!
-
Somebody called my name??? Admittedly, Swayze would be one of the big hits of the year if he does pass away. It's sad though b/c although he's not the greatest actor around, he comes across as a decent guy with a likable screen presencee. And BTW, I wasn't planning on comparing him to Heath Ledger or Brad Renfro, but I was planning on comparing him to the likes of Robert Urich, John Ritter, Michael Landon, Christopher Reeve, and other major 1980s stars who passed away too soon. I was planning on commenting on how sad this is b/c it reminds me that I'm getting old, especially when I hear stories of leading stars from the 1980s and even the 1990s now pass away (not just fade away). Honestly, I'd much rather see Fidel Castro or Kim Jong-il die. Those two are my real big hits of 2009. Well at least for BC Alum it will be the big one of the year. Swayze ticking all the right boxes, American, crap B-list actor etc. I await the post in which he makes the comparison between Heath Ledger, Brad Renfro et al. and old cancer dancer himself with great anticipation.

Here's a familiar name to music lovers, particularly the British. British musician John Martyn has passed away at the age of 60. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/inde...tyn-dead-at-60/

Go Ernie! Here's to hoping you reach the century mark!
-
Dammit! Four years is way too long for this piece of scum like Castro! Why can't he drop dead within four months?
-
Wow, and I was only joking. Seems like I almost started WW3. (Apologies for the missing bracket at end of my earlier post. Unforgivable, I know.) It's actually my fault. I was the one. I'm made out to be a complete douchebag. Oh well, that's why it's the Internet.

Another BS "OH my god, this celebrity is gonna have an imminent death!" article by the National Enquirer. Do these guys have anything better to do? They said the same thing about Michael Jackson, et. al. I guess like the death poolers here, ordinary folks have a thing for celebrities dying so the National Enquirer figures that printing articles boldly saying that a celebrity is about to inevitably die soon (when it's obviously not the case) is a sure way of seller copies.

I seem to recall you spent quite a lot of time last year informing us of how Sir Edmund's death was not particularly noteworthy as most young Americans had not heard of him. Now that you have a new little theory, which we'll probably hear about all year, he's suddenly significant. The least you can do is be consistant. Re the optimism - I've seen it before with Blair in 97 (only time I've ever voted) and look how many celebrity deaths there that summer. Yup -- that was me all right. Well, frankly, Sir Edmund Hillary wasn't really all that well known to most young Americans. Then again, my co-worker pointedly noted that neither was Paul Newman (I never forget his words to the effect of "nobody under the age of 35 really gives a s*it about Paul Newman"), yet I considered Newman a big time celebrity. So obviously, definition of celebrity differs for everybody. My new theory? That everybody has a different definition of a famous person or celebrity. Obviously, I focus more on entertainers (particularly actors, directors, and musicians) and admit to have a lower threshold for what I consider a "famous" actor (e.g., again with the John Phillip Law example, I consider him a major celebrity but admit it's for sentimental reasons, I doubt many people my age know who he is). I have (admittedly) a much higher threshold when it comes to those outside the entertainment industry. Obviously, I consider Steve Jobs, Ted Kennedy, Margaret Thatcher, et. al., to be celebrities. But I generally do not consider a politician who served as an American congressman thirty years ago to be a celebrity unless he was a significant and well-known political figure. Anyway, re 1997. 1997 was probably the most brutal year for celebrity deaths. Princess Diana, John Denver, Gianni Versace, Chris Farley, Notorious BIG, James Stewart, Robert Mitchum, Mother Teresa, Deng Xiaoping, Toshio Mifune, etc. all died in 97.
