    Farrah Fawcett

The bad news is Farrah's gone. The good news is I offically got my first entry! But I feel dirty saying that b/c she was a genuinely likable person. But I am genuinely sad for her loss. Though I still have issues with her common law husband, Ryan O'Neal. The tragedy of Farrah Fawcett besides her cancer obviously was that I felt her common law husband really dragged her down. Why couldn't he get cancer instead? We will miss you, Farrah. God has called back one of his favorite Angels. In a way though, I'm happy she's dead. Not b/c I wanted her to die, but b/c the pain and suffering she endured is over and she can live peacefully amongst the Angels.

    Michael Jackson

Pretty much. I'm honestly completely shook up and still in disbelief. I grew up listening to his music and consider him an important part of my childhood. I know that MJ had a lot of personal issues, but as an artist, there are very few who can rival his success and international popularity. To those in their 20s and 30s who grew up wanting to be "Bad" like Michael Jackson, we now can experience for ourselves what it's like to lose our own generation's Elvis and John Lennon. Even if you were not a fan of MJ, if you grew up in the 80s and 90s, he was very much an icon of that era. I know I b!tched a lot about celebrity deaths, but I was expecting people like Walter Cronkite, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Ed McMahon (though I admittedly wasn't a fan, RIP), Margaret Thatcher, you know, OLD people to pass away. I honestly didn't expect that somebody like MJ would die so early. Man, I'm like 27 years old, and it's sad to see so many icons of my youth fading so fast. In the last year alone, I've lost at least four icons of my youth. I grew up reading Michael Crichton's books. George Carlin gave me so much laughter when I felt down during my teenage years. I awed at the amazing special effects that Stan Winston created in many of my favorite science-fiction and horror movies. And I grew up listening to Michael Jackson's music. Regarding the cause of MJ's death, although the official cause is "cardiac arrest," in my heart, I suspect that he died of a drug overdose. Or at least drugs (even if it's prescription or mediction) contributed significantly to his death. That, or maybe his death was the result of the lethal side effects of all the "work" that has been done on him. I just can't by that someone at age 50 would die of cardiac arrest (unless morbidly obese).

    The Dead Of 2009

Hopefully that'll stop BCAlum 'moaning' for a while. Additionally, McMahon is the third The Simpsons guest star to die this year... perhaps I'll create a mundane thread about it. For the time being, yes. Anyway, I'd be lying to all of you if I didn't admit that I'm feeling a bit of, well "FINALLY!" As in, finally, I got a hit (even though I had McMahon listed for 2010, I'll still count him as a success). I'm not particularly saddened or shocked Ed McMahon died, to be frank. To me, he wasn't exactly one of the more likable TV personalities. His final years of his life were marred by financial problems and embarassing and degrading appearances on TV commercials. Most people outside America probably have never really heard of him anyway. But he's a big deal in the States. Just to clarify here after your Zsa Zsa comment, by your reckoning if you are lacking financial funds it is thus time to die? Does this mean that those living off of a basic state pension or those who've had all their savings taken from them to pay for their residential care should not bother trying to eek out their existence any longer? IMHO you are one strange character with little moral forethought. I was of the belief this site does not wish people to hurry up and die. The sooner you realise this the better. We may then get a little diversity in your posting. I am one strange and eccentric character. But I'm always under the impression that deathpools attract strange and wonderful creatures like us. Anyway, I'll make an effort to add diversity to my postings.

    Farrah Fawcett

Farrah Fawcett has been hospitalised in California and is said to be undergoing urgent treatment. Jeez. This is getting pathetic. okay, I'll tell you what I really think. Ryan O'Neal is using Farrah. He's exploiting her illness for his own personal gain. He previously hyped up Farrah's illness, even to the point claiming that Farrah was clinging onto her "last days" in order to draw attention to the documentary which aired about a month ago. Now Ryan O'neal is again trying to exploit Farrah's illness and overhyping her "inevitable death" in order to gain attention. His wedding to Farrah is also being used to attract media attention as well as allow Ryan O'Neal to access Farrah's financials. At this point, I seriously think it's merciful to let her just die.

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2010

Everybody slates you and ridicules you for repeating the same stuff over and over and I'm enclined to pity you but, after reading it for myself how often you say the same post in a slight variant of the last time you said it, I'm starting to think your just winding everybody up here? Like you want a reaction out of them? People can ridicule me all they want. I really don't care. I'm saying what's on a lot of people's minds. And I can tell you that most deathlisters/deadpoolers are indeed getting inpatient especially with the lack of notable celebrities lately (and this year in general). Most of them though refuse to acknowledge their inpatience. It's the elephant in the room kind of thing. No one wants to say it, but we all feel it deep down.

    Zsa Zsa Gabor

I admit she's one of those on my list I'm just eagerly waiting for her to die. She's 92 years old and is ill health and financial straits. Probably is best for her to just pass on.

    Ideas and Possibilities for 2010

These celebrities, more or less, are said to be extremely ill and "close to death" (according to various sources): Zsa Zsa Gabor, 92 Ed McMahon, 86 Annette Funciello, 66 Farrah Fawcett, 62 Patrick Swayze, 56 Sir Richard Attenborough, 85 Gene Barry, 90 Walter Cronkite, 92 I acknowledge I'm getting a bit inpatient here.

    David Carradine

Just throwing this out there... Based on the celebrity deaths we've seen this year so far (or rather, lack of celebrity deaths), could David Carradine qualify as most significant death of 2009????
  10. BCAlum2000

    Walter Cronkite

Probably not. Unfortunately. http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/t...19_walter_.html No one's denying that he's ill, but rumors of his impending death are greatly exaggerated according to his Executive Assistant. D@mn! It's taking forever for these celebs to pass away. You would think that all these "gravely ill" celebrities like Walter Cronkite, Patrick Swayze, Farrah Fawcett, Ed McMahon, etc., would all be dead by now. It's definitely a slow year for celebrity deaths. Walter Cronkite's death would be that *one* significant death of the year. but for now, looks like David Carradine could possibly qualify as the most significant death of 2009 b/c it seems like no really famous people have stepped up to croak this year! a lot of them have fallen gravely ill, and just when they were on the precipe of death, they miraculously recover (see Stephen Hawking).
  11. BCAlum2000

    Walter Cronkite

Walter Cronkite is rumored to be "gravely ill" according to CBS News. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/na...1,2126473.story Some are speculating that he's about to die soon. Of course, we've heard this many times before in the past year alone (I'm talking to you, Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, Patrick Swayze, Gene Barry, Stephen Hawking, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Elizabeth Taylor, Ted Kennedy, Fidel Castro, Richard Attenborough, Robert Byrd, etc.) so I wouldn't be surprised if this was yet another tease. Anyway, if the rumors are true and he does indeed pass away, it's a truly sad death of an extraordinary man. But his legacy will endure for generations to come. (On the other hand, the deathlister in me wants to say "YES! Finally, a REAL celebrity has died this year!")

    The Dead Of 2009

The biggest and most well known and beloved pro wrestler has passed away...... .....in Japan anyway. Friend of mine from Japan e-mailed me the "untimely passing" of the biggest wrestling legend in Japan, Mitsuharu Misawa. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=4258830 Doubt anybody here knows who he is, but my friend from Japan mentions that imagine if The Rock died. He's a big time celebrity in Japan and his passing is akin to the death of John Lennon(!)

Not really celebrity related, but... Unfortunately, the 88-year-old racist prick who murdered a security guard at the Holocaust museum is expected to survive... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_holocaust_museum_shooting I think we can ALL agree that we wish this scumbag would die.

    Danny Gans

I'm American and I've never heard of the guy... However, he appears to be a legend in Las Vegas. Outside of Vegas though, I'd doubt that anybody knew who the hell he was....

    The Dead Of 2009

Two entertainment related deaths to report (as y'all can tell, that's my niche): Actor Michael Roof has died under unknown circumstances. He was just 32 years old. Don't know him? He had supporting roles as a minor character actor in a few movies including Black Hawk Down, The Dukes of Hazard, and xXx. I actually remember his face (though not his name) as the gadget guy in the xXx movies (the films starred Vin Diesel and Ice Cube as ex-cons who become government operatives). http://www.ocala.com/article/20090610/ARTI...-confirms-death Grindhouse legend Don Edmonds has died at the age of 72. He is most infamous for directing the exploitation classic Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS. He has directed several other notorious exploitation flicks. http://www.fangoriaonline.com/home/news/15...on-edmonds.html

    David Carradine

Honestly, I was under the impression that David Carradine was suffering from some kind of terminal illness (cancer?) that took a debilitating toll on him. He couldn't handle it any more so he killed himself. I figure that since he is getting up there in years, that would be the most plausible. Another possibility was that David Carradine was suffering from depression of some kind and that's why he took his own life. But if the circumstances leading to his death are true, it's a pathetic way to die. It doesn't take away his accomplishments or my respect for the man, but it's a really pointless death.

I believe the famous singer you are referring to is Michael Hutchence from INXS. Some claim he died while having sex; others claim it was suicide.

Waaaaaa????? Really???? Who is this Peter Falk guy??? I canna remember this fella.

    David Carradine

Cripes! Is that a "significant" enough death for BCAlum2000?! Yes it is, my friend. And on a personal note, I consider him to be the most significant death of this year. So far of course. And yes, he's a personal favorite of mine. I enjoyed him in many of his finest works, including Death Race 2000 and the Kill Bill films.

    Political Frailty

A fair post, if I may say so myself. with that said, I remember the debate I had between me and a co-worker over the most significant death of 2008. I argued vigorously for my favorite, Paul Newman. My co-worker argued that Albert Hoffman was the most significant death of 2008! I even remembered my co-worker talking about, even mourning, Albert Hoffman when he heard news of his passing. Maybe my co-worker was an LSD fan... Sorry to take this off topic, but I could never forget the reaction of my co-worker when he heard news that Albert Hoffman died. It was like the passing of his favorite childhood idol. it was kinda pathetic, but i'm sure my co-worker would say the same thing when i mourned Paul Newman's passing. The debate was heated at times. My co-worker argued that Albert Hoffman was much more significant than Paul newman because Newman was just "some actor" while Hoffman invented LSD! I guess you couldn't really argue that. But I pointed out the cultural significance of Paul Newman as not just an American idol, but a beloved international idol especially to cinema fans. No, doesn't count. Sorry. It's been a fairly dry spell the last several weeks. The last major celebrity to die is Chuck Daly (legendary NBA coach). But even his fame is somewhat questionable. I doubt he's known in the UK. In the last several months, the following celebrities teased us with the media claiming they had "days" to live and that their deaths were imminent... Patrick Swayze Farrah Fawcett Ed McMahon Stephen Hawking Gene Autry Jerry Lewis Dave Gahan (Depeche Mode) Yet all of them are still alive and well (maybe not well, but still holding on). I did my best not to respond on this, but apparently it realy bothered me. What right do you have to not call his death notable, I agree I've also never heard of the man but I'd never heard of Albert Hoffman either before I joined the site. I think it's just way to easy to say that every person you never heard of must be non-important. claiming that a former NBA-coach (a death only an American can care about) is more important than an former African leader is just absurt. I wasn't alive during his reigning period (1968 till 1985, maybe you were there during all that time but I doubt it) so I can't say if he is important enough or not. But of what I've read about him (his coup, Camp David involvment) It doesn't feel right just to react emidently and saying he doesn't count as someone notable. I think one of you're biggest handicaps is being American. Because you live in a country which dominates more than half it's continent, you don't really see the difference between national and international importance and you end up with a very narrow look of the world and the people in it. You probably have a reaction on this post which is much stronger than the post itself because you are much better in expressing yourself on forum-sites and because English is your first language. So when you react don't expect another reaction from me. For the other death listers I.am sorry, I was aware I promised to make lesser apearences on this site but I just had to respond to this. And to the moderators please don't higher my warn level after this rant...

    Political Frailty

FINALLY, we would break this long-@rse dry spell if Margaret Thatcher would just freakin' croke. C'mon Thatcher, what's taking you so long? Okay, I don't give a s*** about all these former leaders of some obscure third world country (okay, Israel is NOT a third would country) dying. we need to have somebody like Fidel Castro or Kim Jong il or Margaret Thatcher croaking. That would make my day. I'm getting impatient here with the lack of celebrity deaths for the past several weeks. And before any of you get all sanctimonious on me, c'mon, Castro, Jong il, and Thatcher are all scum anyway so it's not like the world will be a worst off place if they die. hell, the world would be a much better place if they died!
