New Here And Just Saying Hello
Ulitzer95 replied to football_fan's topic in DeathList extra-curricular
Don’t think there’s a departures thread (this isn’t an airport after all!) so just going to post this in here – it’s been a fun and interesting 15 years but I’ve decided I’d rather leave DL. Not going to get into my reasons for this. I will still drop in every few months to edit existing lists I’ve made through the years, but I do not intend to post anymore. Adieu- 923 replies

Yes I see they’ve added it. Only took them 4 hours. Optics certainly don’t look great when they do shit like that.

Sky News running it as a leading story. Not on the main section of the BBC News app at all. You have to specifically tap into the Entertainment section to find the story. One of the biggest actors of his generation and deserving of a breaking news notification in my opinion. Accidental snub or yet more anti-Israeli rhetoric from the Beeb?

Obit. -
Grace Onyango dead at 98. Kenya’s first female MP post-independence. A hit for @arghton in the 20/20 pool.
-
Nayak died on 13 August 1993, aged 70 as per this book source.
-
Augusto Lauro (wiki) dead at 99. Yet another 1923 name not making it to 100.
-
Ed Fury got write ups from The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. Pleasant surprise tbh. I thought he would get snubbed for sure.

Updated entry for the death of Stevie Marsh. I was fairly confident she had died decades ago, but I wanted a concrete answer, and I got it after much digging in the British newspaper archives looking for clues, then using them to pull out her records. She died in May 2020 aged 94, just 3 months after I posted her entry on here. I also updated The Temperance Seven entry the other day after finding concrete evidence of the death of "Canon" Colin Bowles, their pianist. He died in the 1980s! I've had it confirmed to me now (via someone in the know) that there are three members of that group from their hit-making days still alive (Harrison, Bevan and Gieves-Watson). All aged in their mid to late 80s. Another entry more or less complete then. I think it's unlikely I will ever get to the bottom of every entry on this project, but there are fewer blanks each year as I do more revisions and research. Really happy with it tbh... but some will likely remain mysteries forever. Suzi Miller, Jamo Thomas, Linda Carr, and Ping Ping being some examples of ones I don't expect to solve.

Now this amused me somewhat. The Guardian obit for Wally Fawkes was written by George Melly(!) who predeceased Fawkes by 16 years.

People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...

Somebody keeps editing the page of Traute Lafrenz (wiki), the last living member of the White Rose, to say that she died yesterday (March 6th) at the age of 103. The IP address is based in South Carolina. Lafrenz lived latterly in South Carolina, so maybe true. Let's see... Just like Knap, not picked in the DDP this year. C'mon ppl. -
Ted Knap dead at 102. Can’t send link from my phone as it’s Euro blocked and just redirects to some home page when I try to open.

Already being discussed on the oldest living footballers thread...

An obit of sorts for Ed Fury from Extra TV here. In the past, the obit writers at the Hollywood Reporter have often snubbed the American bodybuilding legends who became famous through European (primarily Italian) cinema, despite the fact that this then gave them a status in the U.S. subsequently as a result. Of the bodybuilders who cut their names in the "sword-and sandal" films (1958–1965) here's who's dead and who's still around: Dan Vadis (wiki, 1938–1987) Nadir Baltimore (aka Nadir Moretti, German wiki, 1923–1997) Italian, later moved to the States then to France Steve Reeves (wiki, 1926–2000) Gordon Mitchell (wiki, 1923–2003) The oldest in the group Mickey Hargitay (wiki, 1926–2006) Gordon Scott (wiki, 1926–2007) Reg Park (wiki, 1928–2007) Richard Lloyd (wiki, 1932–2023) The only Iranian of the group Alan Steel (wiki, 1931–2015) Italian, but styled as an American Mike Lane (wiki, 1933–2015) Joe Robinson (wiki, 1927–2017) The only Brit of the group Brad Harris (wiki, 1933–2017) Reg Lewis (wiki, 1936–2021) Mark Forest (wiki, 1933–2022) Ed Fury (wiki, 1928–2023) Samson Burke (wiki, born 1929) The only Canadian of the group Peter Lupus (aka Rock Stevens, wiki, born 1932) Yann Larvor (information, born 1935) The only Frenchman of the group Kirk Morris (wiki, born 1942) Italian but styled as an American, the baby of the group Just 3–4 left from this genre (as Larvor was definitely still alive in 2008), but if I've missed anyone let me know and I'll add them to the list.

Unfortunately for them, I'm a paywall thief. See spoiler below. I'm glad he's publicly confirmed that he was given weeks to live in 2021. Makes me feel less ridiculous for breaking this on here then him subsequently not dying.

@The Old Crem...

Lives in London. Can't find an age because that appears to be a stage name. Talent agency still lists her here so still about but likely retired. Given that she played a Weasley in a Harry Potter film I doubt her death would go unnoticed.
-
Hearing due a little later today. They seem to be covering it on the news. I doubt he will get out. Last conviction was 8 years ago, last violent outburst was "only" 4 years ago.

No need to apologise, just saying!

I know. Look at who edited his page to add it

Also not notable.

Cricket Thread. Only Mad Dogs And Englishmen

Not a notable individual. Ironic given your little hissy fit the other day… -
Yes, Lynyrd Skynyrd was founded in 1964 as a five set. Though their biggest days were in the 70s, and there's still 3 members living from that era: Rickey Medlocke (73, still with the group today) Greg T. Walker (71) Artimus Pyle (74)

You’re too young to be engaging in that sort of filthy business Young Crem. Get back to your school studies and your hooped spaghetti.

Tate has flat out denied having cancer in a new tweet. Says the spot in his lungs is an old scar from a historic fight.
