Paul Tesluk of Johnny and the Hurricanes died on August 20, aged 82. Legacy obit. Not quite sure how the media have missed this though. That's a fairly big rock n roll death. Just one left from the charting act now.

A 38(!) year old cat? There’s NO WAY he didn’t switch in a replacement at some point!

I actually had a search online the other day to get to the bottom of this. Didn’t find anything unfortunately. To be fair, I didn’t check searchpeoplefree or MyLife. I’m out this evening so maybe someone else can have a look.

True, though Singh has been on our radars for well over a decade now. The others cropped up on here much later. I thought he would've died in the 2000s to be honest, then we learnt of his real age!

The Joe Meek Society yesterday reported the death of Alan Dean, who died back in August aged 80. Frontman of Alan Dean and his Problems. Released singles in the mid-1960s through Decca and Pye. Failed to chart. Edit: I see the page also reported that Bobby Rio, frontman of Bobby Rio and the Revelles, died on 6 September. Three singles released through Pye Records in 1965. None charted. 2nd edit: Charles Ward of The Thunderbolts died in July as per this local obit. One single in 1963, which also failed to chart. 3rd edit: Gerry Temple (real name Keith De Groot) died back in March as per this. Singles released 1961–1969. None charted.

Lol, well tbf most commentators were saying the same thing on that one, and neither party did particularly well. Most commentators don't say "she's got a bit of a limp, must be the ole pancreatic cancer again". Don't compare me to his level of conspiracy theories!

The names Bob Hope, George Burns and Kirk Douglas don't mean much to most British alive today. At a push, maybe Douglas does more than the former two – purely because of his lead role in Spartacus. Name drop Hope or Burns to most folk under 40 they'll just shrug. Dame Vera Lynn and Captain Tom Moore are household names here and they have that name drop recognition across all age groups. Dame Olivia de Havilland also carries more fame than Burns, Hope and Douglas because Gone with the Wind is on the curriculum in most schools here. More ppl have seen Gone with the Wind because of its historical significance than Spartacus. Fame is entirely subjective but I think you're looking at this through a US-centric and perhaps generationally skewed lens.

Currently updating the 1960s on page one. Discovered a few new deaths already and I've only covered T-Z so far: *"Captain" Cephas Howard of The Temperance Seven died in France in September 2021, aged 86. *Mark Prince of The Velvets died in November 2021, aged 79. Meaning that Thursby is the sole surviving member (he attended an event in June). *Obscure Grammy-nominated arranger Richard Wolfe died in February 2019, aged 91. The Temperance Seven Wiki UK jazz ensemble founded in Christmas 1955 by students at the Chelsea School of Art, known for their surreal performances and their distinctive sound of 1920s style jazz music, produced by George Martin Clifford Bevan 25 Jan 1934 – Living "Canon" Colin Bowles n/a – pre-1995 Mention of death Alan Swainston Cooper 15 Feb 1931 – 22 Aug 2007 (76) Guardian obit John R. Rate Your Music has a personnel list for their 1961 album, which includes Pasadena, Hard Hearted Hannah and Chili Bom Bom as tracks. They include "Canon" Colin Bowles as a pianist for this. The National Portrait Gallery lists the credits for Charleston, with a lineup that matches except the addition of tuba player Clifford Bevan and minus Bowles on piano. NB2: As far as I can see Bevan, Howard and Gieves-Watson are all still alive. This is useful. Unsure about the rest. This obit for a Colin Bowles in 2019 was featured in the same paper that regularly gives press coverage to the band. Could it be him? NB3: Found a newspaper clipping from 2001 that refers to Bowles as "the late", and a book that said he was dead before 1995. Good enough for me!
