Telegraph obit for Captain Vyvyan Howard clarifies that he was the last Brit involved in The Great Escape. So now they really are all gone.

Obit for Schmidt-Couttet. -
Officially denied. Likely she is ill though. Not a bad idea for a 2023 DDP pick, along with Comical Ali.

A drop for next year?

Even better. In that case I definitely will create one.

It does fit here. I was just quoting the answer to your question.

Worth noting that Loretta Lynn was the earliest inductee of the County Music Hall of Fame who was still living. She was inducted in 1988. That title now goes to Willie Nelson, 89, who was inducted in 1993. The other living inductees from the 1990s are Brenda Lee, 77 (1997), Bud Wendell, 95 (1998), and Dolly Parton, 76 (1999).

Your bezzie, SC, has been posting plenty and you haven't been acknowledging any of them!

Pebbles (wiki mention), Guinness World Record holder for the world's oldest dog, dead at 22. @Paul Bearer, can this thread please be moved to general? I enjoy posting in here but I get the impression a lot of folk don't see it in extra-curricular.

Photos of the UK's oldest living people Ethel Caterham and Rose Eaton from their 113th birthdays in late August. Rose (bottom set of pictures) is STILL living at home independently (with occasional visits from carers). That's crazy! They're the only living people to have been subjects of SIX monarchs – Edward VII, George V, Edward VII, George VI, Elizabeth II and now Charles III.

And now Franca Fendi has died aged 87. 3 of the 5 Fendi sisters remain. Anna Fendi (wiki), who is 89, is the most prominent. Paola Fendi is the oldest, at 91. Alda Fendi is the youngest, at 82.

I like this one. "Loretta not getting better" rhymes. Well almost. It depends how you say it.

He was actually born in December 1928. Alive. Photo of him from June 2018. Looks pretty good there. Given his career in the IAS, as well as a prolific author, I doubt he will die off radar.
-
Alive. Photo of him meeting someone in April 2016. There are also happy birthday posts from January 2022, all referring to him in the present.
-
Alive in May 2021, though both posts describe him as being in dire health. Photo of him in hospital, dated 17 May 2021. News agency Gaam Ghar announcing that he's in ICU, 18 May 2021. Nothing since then, so presumably made a miraculous recovery, of course.

Viswanathan Ratnam died from COVID-19 on 23 May 2020, at the age of 87. News report here.

Still alive I would say. He published books in 2010 and 2017. In his 2010 book, he gives his own birth as "April 1935".
