Times obit. Clarifies that the cause of death was oesophageal cancer. Nasty one that, and unsurprising that he only lasted 5 weeks after diagnosis. My mate told me it was throat cancer. I've since explained to him what the oesophagus and the throat are different things.

Revisting this. This Times of India article mentions that M.D.R. Ramachandran is deceased.

Guardian obit for Inez Foxx.

Was just thinking about David Graham today. I'm surprised he's still alive to be honest. 98 next July but I doubt he'll make it that far after his stroke. As a legend, and the last notable voice actor of the Gerry & Sylvia Anderson productions, can we have him on DL next year?

Born Philip John Guard in Rochford, Essex in 1928. Last acting credit was in 1964. He doesn't appear in the GRO Index so he didn't die in the UK up until 2021. He doesn't appear in 192 People either so isn't resident in the UK. A search on Ancestry pulls up his fate – emigrated to Italy. "Philip John Guard" is listed in the 2003, 2005, 2010 and 2011 Italian Phone Book Indexes. He was based in Casola, Lunigiana. The Italian Phone Book Indexes from 2012 onwards are not available on Ancestry, so he could still be living there, though statistically more likely he's dead ofc. Edit: His ex wife's Guardian obit from May 2012 mentions that he survived her.

Hollywood Reporter obit for restauranteur Madame Sylvia Wu, who has died just weeks shy of 107. Her restaurant Madame Wu's Garden served Hollywood's A list from 1959 until its closure in 1998. Among them: Cary Grant, Mae West, Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor, Mia Farrow, Johnny Carson, Carol Burnett, Walter Matthau, Robert Redford, Paul Newman, Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg. Surprising that she was on nobody's radar given that the U.S. press covered her 100th birthday in 2015.

I love that phrase. Craig Charles used to use it all the time when narrating Takeshi’s Castle.

Come on man. I’ve been on here for 14 years. When have you ever known me to be PC sensitive?

I feel Kissinger is bigger purely because his name is closely associated with significant events in history and thus his name always appears in history books. Carter was a forgettable U.S. president. Our perception of his prominence is perhaps clouded on this site because we’ve been discussing him for years.

I’ve got some mind blowing news for you – she (Diana) was “cheating” on him too. It was practically a sham marriage and neither of them loved one another. C’est la vie.

Doesn't mean a snap GE would get rid of them... -
Apart from when it's Peter Tobin or Sidney Cooke... both of whom are must have picks for the DL next year imo (if either of them make it that far ofc).

It's funny how so many people genuinely believe calling a GE will end political deadlock and smoothen everything out. Short term memories indeed. T. May had a massive poll lead over Labour in 2017. Just a few weeks later, they actually lost seats on the day of poll. If GE campaign actually did take place and people actually had to stomach putting an "X" next to Starmer's box, I genuinely believe many would flop last minute and stick with the status quo. And yet, the Tories wouldn't get enough votes to secure a majority. You'd have a hung parliament, and nothing would get passed, and the situation in the country would get worse. The markets would get worse, the pound would get worse etc., and it would go on for months and months until eventually we had a subsequent GE 6-12 months later, like what happened in the 70s, and in 17-19. So not a good idea for any of the political parties IMO (maybe bar the SNP who would sweep more seats and would try to spin grievances from the chaos that ensues). -
It's almost as if she understands that it has nothing to do with whether people like him or not, and more to do with the fact that you're a deranged human being who belongs at the funny farm in a room with padded walls.

Could've been worse I suppose. At least they didn't use a picture of Howard from the Halifax ads. -

Also stood as the Tory candidate for the seat of Bolster in 1959 when he was just 28. There can't be many UK parliamentary candidates from the 1950s still around. The last few from the 1940s died a few years back now. -

Agree with most of this. Didn’t Newsom have some kind of scandal that would hamper his chances? In any case, looks like the U.S. is on course to have its 3rd president within a space of 6 years.

Tweet reporting the death of Dr. Audrey Evans (wiki), aged 97. Yorkshire-born American oncologist who founded Ronald McDonald House Charities in Philadelphia, in 1974. Even if the name is not familiar, everyone will recognise the logo (unless you've literally never been inside a McDonald's!). Their charity boxes are on the counters inside and below the service windows at the "drive-thru". EDIT: Washington Post obit
