“Socialites, it is with our deepest regret to inform you that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has died. Sources close to the Royal Kingdom notified us exclusively that Queen Elizabeth has passed away. She was scheduled to attend the wedding of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, but was found dead.” You ain’t going to be eating any humble pie mate. We’ve covered this before but it’s worth repeating for those who are unaware of this – there is a very specific procedure in place for when the Queen dies. A small group of ppl know before it goes directly to the Associated Press. The chance of it landing on Twitter or a gossip site first is absolutely zero.

Thing is with Ian, I don’t get why he bothers. His tweets get no traction whatsoever. I think in his head he thinks it’s just a matter of time before a tweet like this gets 10k RTs. It ain’t going to happen.

NME. Variety. Some places online very generously refer to him as co-lead vocalist of QOTSA. He was never really more than a guest star. Still a big name. Sad news.

And that will serve as a QO for the team which has him as a unique DDP pick. The QOs for Chor and Brooker now push us ahead again in # of hits vs. # of days (55 vs. 53).

Updated both of the 60s and 70s entries of Procol Harum for the death of Gary Brooker.

Crossposting from the Detective thread. Joan Curry, another of my picks died in autumn 2020. If I'm allowed a new pick I'll take Satya Mohan Joshi please.

I was led to believe that there are another serious of cuts coming to the BBC(??) so I'm not at all surprised that some of the more marmite big guns are either being pushed or offered an altered role with a reduced sum that they've turned down.

The GRO Index update reveals that Joan Curry died in the 3rd quarter of 2020, aged 101. HUGHESMAN, PATRICIA JOAN 1918 GRO Reference: DOR Q3/2020 in KINGSTON UPON THAMES (240-1C) Entry Number 520978177 FFS. I have her picked on the Centenarians deadpool. Serves me right for trying to be clever with slightly more obscure names. Kudos to @Spade_Cooley who noticed that her son had been grieving over a loss of some kind on Facebook in autumn 2020.

Interesting that you see it that way. Many Conservatives think that the BBC is ridiculously left leaning. Many lefties think its too cuddled up to the government etc. The answer is it's neither. There is bias in all of their political programming to some degree. Some of it fits one person's narrative, some of it fits others. When the BBC send their foreign correspondent to a press conference in Ukraine and despite a threat of an invasion (which has now materialised), all he wants to ask the PM at said conference are questions about a fucking cake, I ask questions. When Maitlis, who gives the Government a hard time and has (very partisan) opening "monologues" (in reality rants) at the start of her programme and then all of a sudden leaves, you ask questions. The BBC is a huge beast that covers all manners of programming, including tackling some very partisan areas. It's never going to please everyone, and indeed in this day and age, it's becoming ever more likely it will please nobody. The argument that we should abolish the licence fee/privatise it is becoming far more legitimate as time passes, and whilst it had fringe support even 10 years ago, the majority now back it.

Wrong thread... plus it was already reported in the punk thread.

That's true. Sadly for some African countries, record keeping was still poor right up until the 1950s/60s. Other countries in Asia, South America etc. had much better records by the late 1920s, and so we should see more supercentenarians being verified from those continents in a decade or two. One thing having a keen interest in longevity has taught me is that there are so many barefaced liars in the world, even amongst older generations who should know better and you'd expect to have a lot more decorum and respect by that point e.g. Fauja Singh, Ruby Muhammad, Buster Martin etc. etc.

Facebook post announcing the death of American painter Harry Carmean (wiki), aged 99.

Radio Times got it correct too.

If ever proof were needed that The Mirror employs poundshop journos, the fact that they can't even cut and paste information available to them via the Associated Press is pretty poor (let alone the fact that it clearly wasn't proof read before someone pressed "publish")... they give Bevan's age as "93" four times in their write up of him.

I think he was born in Aberdeen but grew up and was schooled in London so not sure that's a relevant point in the same way it is for types who did move south as part of their career, e.g. Ben Wallace, Liam Fox, Michael Gove, IDS, Sir Teddy Taylor, Sir Malcolm Rifkind, Dame Eleanor Laing, Iain Stewart etc. etc.

This seems like pretty good confirmation to me. Says his wife called an ambulance, he was in hospital for 2 hours then passed. I think he had dementia since about 2014(?) though so not news he was on his last legs.

COVID wouldn't tend to kill a 31 year old within a week. EDIT: Jamal Edwards did a lot of work on mental health and suicide prevention, particularly on the stigma surrounding men. My hunch is on "offed himself".

Yes and no. The perfect way for the Palace to handle it is to only announce that she’s tested positive days after she actually took the test. That way they know her case will remain mild so disclosing her status isn’t a big deal. If she was really ill with it, they’d withhold information, right up until the point she needed hospitalisation. Then they’d be forced to make a statement. We didn’t know about any of Philip’s illnesses until he actually needed hospitalised.

Derek Hussey, percussionist and singer for The Blockheads (wiki) being reported dead via the official Ian Dury Twitter page. Born in 1957, so either 64 or 65.

Numerous news sources online (eg this one) reporting that Karl Vaino has died aged 98. They state that his death date is unknown. All they know is he died earlier in 2022 and was already buried by 16 February.
