@michaelf, think you may have missed this post from OoO. Any comments/useful leads here? -
Edit: Old obit which I mistook as new. Silly me. Ignore.
-
Yes, I tend to agree with this. Not just the quality, the quantity has been reduced over the past year. Particularly noticeable on the Guardian site. Can't see why journalists sat on their arse at home under lockdown would be a reason for fewer obits... surely the opposite?
-
Not sure. I think it's probably simpler than that – the obit writers of the big three (Guardian, Telegraph, Times) try to pick subjects from a wide range of backgrounds/professions in order to keep their section as varied/interesting as possible. There's been an unusually large number of former MPs who have died in the last few months, and as such I think they'll be putting a few on ice for now. I know for certain, because I've had it confirmed by at least two of them, that the obit writers shuffle some individuals into a "maybe" category and then eventually make a decision depending on how slow or fast the coming days, weeks and months are with other subsequent deaths.

Josser Watling has become one of the ten first inductees into Bristol Rovers' Hall of Fame. Announcement here. Confirms he is the oldest player from the club still alive (not sure if that was known already?). Gives no recent update of him or a quote/reaction... -
You're just being bitter because Howarth hasn't got one yet To boost your confidence a little, Hywel Francis (former Lab MP) died way back in early Feb. Only just got a Telegraph obit the other day. So still hope.

The Dalai Lama shouldn't be included, because Tibet is not a nation state in the eyes of the U.N., or just in general tbh. If you're going to wander that far down the path, then best check the other current and historical unrecognised states e.g. United Arab Republic, Abkhazia, Somaliland etc. etc. for living leaders of the past.

As posted elsewhere... Johnny Crawford dead. Hollywood Reporter obit. 24 living; 15 dead.
-
Updated. Just two left now. Looking like Ronnie could very well be the last one... indestructible are the Stones. They must have made a pact with the devil or something. Some rather amusing stills of The Birds on this Aveleyman page for the 1966 film The Deadly Bees, in which all 5 of them appeared in.

Harlem Globetrotters spring to mind as one example, but WWE is definitely in an unmatched league in terms of how big it’s become.
-
Tbf took me ages after I became a member to clock that’s what the thread title meant. I thought it was “/ actors” because many WWE stars have gone on to appear in Hollywood films! Should probably read “Wrestlers (aka actors)” or we just take the attempt of humour out altogether and make it “Pro-wrestlers.” or something.

I can see his address on the autograph hunter community I’m on. Half tempted to drive down to Brighton, chap on the door and say “Well hello there, just checking you’re not dead. ”

Hollywood Reporter obituary.

You had me there. Thought a new post by msc was bound to be confirmation on André Maranne. It’s starting to stress me out now!

Saw him on This Morning with Schofield the other week. "Cyborg" is a polite way of saying vegetable with a talking computer.

Death notice in the Telegraph for Air Vice Marshal Donald Attlee, aged 98. A highly decorated RAF veteran, fruit farmer, local councillor and the nephew of former British Prime Minister Clement Attlee (1883–1967). -
Speaking of ill Lords... worth taking note of these names for deadpooling purposes (though granted, a bit of a shot in the dark): Parliament is prorogued today, early afternoon to be precise, marking the end of this parliamentary session. Two peers are set to be expelled for not attending a single sitting in the last quarter: Lord Rogers of Riverside – Labour life peer, better known as Richard Rogers, a very prominent Italian-British architect. 88 in July. Lord Selsdon – Tory hereditary, member of the House since 1963(!), 84 in October Additionally, another two were set to be expelled today for the same reasons, but they got a special "leave of absence" granted last night enabling them to stay on in absentia. They are: Lord Lawson of Blaby – Tory life peer and former Chancellor, better known as Nigel Lawson. Turned 89 last month. Lord Hanningfield – Non-affiilated peer, former leader of Essex Council and all round crook. Turns 81 in September. Good chance several of them are poorly. I'll see if I can get any more info.

Lord Smith of Clifton (wiki), Lib Dem life peer and member of the House of Lords (1997–2019), dead from septicaemia, aged 83. Also the former spokesperson for the Lib Dems on Northern Ireland, and Vice Chancellor of the University of Ulster from 1991 to 1999. Times obituary.

Elections are not fought or won on Twitter – it's an echo chamber composed of cliques of people who by-in-large keep their "bubbles" comforting and insular by only following/being followed by folk with the same views/interests as them. If you went off what Twitter was saying in 2017 and 2019, you'd have expected Corbyn to have won 2 landslides. On the contrary, a new poll on "Preferred PM" released today by BMGResearch has Boris up 5 points, Starmer down 4. It's almost as if our mainstream media is once again so out of touch they don't realise that nobody gives a flying fuck who paid for that flat renovation, as long as it wasn't the taxpayer!

Mentioned in one of the historical "Ideas and Possibilities" threads before on here. Someone edited the page for Hollywood Golden-era actress May Wynn on 2nd April to say that she died on 22nd March, aged 93. Anyway, it wasn't a hoax and here's proof: She was born Donna Lee Hickey in Jan 1928, and her second (and last) marriage was to Jack Custer in 1968. They divorced in 1979 but she kept the name. A search on the Accurint website brings up this record: DONNA LEE CUSTER DONNA L CUSTER DONNA CUSTER D CUSTER DOB: 1/xx/1928 DOD: 03/22/2021 Age at death: 93 Gender - Female *View Sources (~3) Someone on the Voy.com obits message board also said that an email from the Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church (where she latterly taught) confirmed her death. I'll ping this to IMDb and Deadline. Wynn was the last surviving credited cast member of the 1954 film "The Caine Mutiny" (adopted from a book by former DL hit Herman Wouk). In the film she played the character May Wynn, the love interest of Willie Keith (played by Robert Francis, who tragically died in a plane crash in 1955 aged 25). She then adopted the name of the character as her permanent stage name for the remainder of her film career.

The next time I send further updates to IMDb, I'm sure they'll fix this one. The Doctor Who Guide and the social media post from his son are strong enough. The only source I give them that they're a bit hesitant on tends to be Ancestry family trees, which is fair enough to be honest.
-
Brilliant, thanks! I normally check family trees but I missed this one. I've updated the section.

Legacy obit for Bill Johnston here.
