I’m conflicted on whether that’s the case. He’s not in ICU. Next couple of days will be critical in determining what happens. Either way I still reckon he’s a goner this year given how frail he appears to be.

    Dustin Diamond

Surprised to see he was picked (by one team) on the DDP. Early knowledge of his illness or lucky fluke? My money is on the latter given that the rest of the team includes otherwise healthy picks like R Kelly, Johnny Depp and Shia LaBeouf.

    Oldest Living football league players

As OoO writes above, also the oldest Spurs player. Handy that both the QPR and Ipswich Town articles on his passing identify him as their oldest player too. Was that already known @Octopus of Odstock or does it in turn remove any of names from the possibly living list?

    Captain Tom Moore

I seriously doubt some random German user on Twitter has inside info on Captain Tom Moore. I think this is more of a case of you wanting some Forum kudos but not having anything worthy of posting so you just spam with total shite and hope it will be received well.

Doesn’t actually have COVID. It was a diversion tactic so he could carry out a coup in Myanmar. It’s on Wikipedia so must be true, right?

I’m unaware of anyone denying that hospitals are hotbeds for infections? The media, the NHS, even the government are pretty candid about that. Precautions are ofc taken to avoid transmission as much as possible but given that the particles are airborne and given just how contagious it is, it’s understandable why this would be near impossible to stop. One COVID particle can’t make a healthy person sick with the virus. A larger number of particles will, but the “infectious dose” is significantly reduced if the person is already ill due to their immune system being compromised. Therefore it would be easy for those who are already sick in an environment where it exists to catch it. It would be impossible to safeguard against every single COVID particle in such places. Interesting article on viral loads/infectious doses here. HSJ article here about the impossibility of preventing hospital patients catching ‘rona. In saying that, I think far too many in hospitals in the U.K. are catching it whilst they’re in-patients. It could definitely be better controlled than it currently is.

I asked my flatmate about it upon seeing the news. He’s a GP. If you don’t believe him then go to this NHS page; https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinations/flu-influenza-vaccine/

    British Character Actors

Watched The Calcium Kid (2004) earlier. There’s an old character in it called Leonard. Thought to myself “MUST be dead by now”, checked, nope... still with us and there’s loads online about him! Arthur Nightingale turns 90 this year. TV credits include The Bill and The Crown. Still acting as recently as 2020 so maybe a few years left in him yet! Added him to the list.

    Henry Kissinger

Why? Because you want it to be so or are you actually basing that on anything? He’s fat and immobile. Doesn’t inspire confidence in me that he’ll see another 4 birthdays.

Fair enough. Still had pneumonia before COVID. And you still can’t vaccinate someone with a temperature.

    Captain Tom Moore

The statement makes clear that he was already ill with pneumonia before he got hospitalised... where he presumably caught COVID. Hospitals are still the #1 place for transmission. I won’t bore anyone with a huge amount of detail but you CANNOT vaccinate someone with an existing temperature, due to potential adverse effects. That goes for any vaccines, not just COVID ones. The body is already fighting illness and mounting any more stress on it, particularly for a man of nearly 101, is careless.

    The Rabbi Thread

And just several hours later Rabbi Yitzchok Scheiner (wiki) has died aged 98. He tested positive for COVID-19 on 24th January so quicker downturn. Meshulam Dovid Soloveitchik was the oldest rabbi on the Council of the Torah Sages. Scheiner was the second oldest member. Those accolades now go to Gershon Edelstein (b. 1923, wiki) and Shmuel Kamenetsky (b. 1924, wiki), respectively.

    The Rabbi Thread

I think we’ve touched on this point before but it can’t really be emphasised enough. There’s a medical phenomenon known as “terminal lucidity” which is common in many elderly/seriously ill patients. Their vitals improve and they become far more energetic and alert, hours, days or weeks before dying. This leads relatives into a false sense of hope or belief that the person is recovering hence you get the “they’re improving” stories when in actuality fact they’re often totally fucked.

    Missing In Action

The case of D.B. Cooper still remains a total mystery and to date it is the only unsolved case of aviation piracy in U.S. history. Sheridan Peterson (wiki), who was perhaps the last of the major suspects in the case, died in early this month aged 94. Several of the people who researched the case closely were determined it was him. Peterson never confessed but would frequently toy with the media. The case will be 50 years old in November, as such likely it will never be solved.

Yup, agreed. I thought he might see 100 but judging by the look of him in that clip I think he’ll die this year or next.

    Dead Pop Stars

Died abroad in Athens. She suffered a fall and required a blood transfusion according to friends on social media, but died several hours later. The Guardian are saying she had "climbed up" somewhere at 4am to watch the full moon and then slipped. Sounds like a drunken idea that's gone horribly wrong.
