Betty Driver Memorial Soapstar Superstar Thread

As @Not Deathers correctly assumed, it’s StarTiger I’m a member of. I’m staying at a mate’s tonight so will have a look tomorrow when I’m back at my PC. -
Not really. I mean I remember my grandparents and great grandparents. In their 80s the overweight ones considerably slimmed down. Just comes with the territory. One of them lived to be 104, so wasn’t anything wrong with him. Hard to retain weight at that age. Looks quite active to be honest. I would say a few years left in him yet.

Poor guy. Actually really sad reading that.

Is it too much to ask that a moderator changes his username to Sir Cunt for the rest of the holiday season? Cheers.

Times death notice (PAYWALL) for Kenneth V. Jones (wiki), film score composer and conductor, aged 96. -
Babs now gone. Who’s keeping a list on here? I know Judy and Sally Geeson. They’re both in good health. I reckon they’ll be around for quite a while yet, along with the likes of Sherrie Hewson. Leslie Phillips and Richard O’Sullivan are surely next to go?

Probably died just in time to be included in TCM Remembers 2020, which should be released next week.

Two more entries updated: Found a 1999 obit for William Connors who is credited as the bandleader on Alabama Jubilee. His name was misspelt on the single release, hence why I didn't find anything first time round. From this I pulled his birth details from Ancestry. -- Peter Fleerackers (or Fleerakkers), the namesake of The Flee-Rekkers, died on 21st December 2016 according to a comment posted by a friend on this Youtube video. It means that he was, as I suspected, the same Peter Fleerackers who later had a career in ceiling installation. Industry obit here, which gives the same date of death. Makes sense because I could only ever find one Peter Fleerackers in the UK according to Ancestry. Interestingly, he was born in Ealing, NOT in Holland. The story that the band used was that he was Dutch when in reality they were all London born and bred! Dave Cameron is still performing and posts new videos on Youtube. One here from last month. Looks pretty good! Interested to find out if Durrant, Monger and Skinner are still about?

Updated for the death of lead guitarist Mick Eyre. Aug 2019 interview with drummer Tony Hinchcliffe, which was not published until March 2020, here. Mentions Eyre died in December 2019. Indicates Wilcock and Oliver are still alive.

Updated for the death of bassist Tony "Tex" Makins. I found a few tweets which say "in tribute to Tex Makins" from 2017. Wiki gives his name as Anthony Paul Makins. Hit this into the death index and the name comes up for that year, and the full DOD was pulled from his family's tree on Ancestry. Fame, Green and Thornton are definitely still with us. I think Eddie "Tan Tan" Thornton, 90 next year, would be a decent DDP pick. He should obit.

None of these sports have high incidences of dementia amongst their respective sportsmen. Particularly not American football or ice hockey – BECAUSE THEY'RE COVERED FROM HEAD TO TOE IN PADDING AND PROTECTIVE GEAR THAT COVERS EVERY FUCKING SQUARE INCH OF THEIR BODY!!!

Crossposting from the UK Singles Chart thread: Facebook post from his local church confirming the death of British character actor Basil Moss (wiki) aged 85. Known for his role of Alan Drew in the BBC series Compact. Also had a minor role in Bond film You Only Live Twice.

British character actor Basil Moss died a couple of weeks ago according to his Wikipedia page. "It is with enormous sadness it must be added that Basil died on 28th November 2020." Can't find anything else, though I'm sat here on my second bottle of wine so that doesn't really mean anything. Anyone? Edit: His local church announced his death on Facebook. If the press notice, he should get a QO.

Thanks YW. Added it as a note: The Lemon Pipers Wiki American psychedelic rock band from Oxford, Ohio, Bill Bartlett was later a member of Ram Jam Bill Albaugh 09 Jan 1946 – 20 Jan 1999 (53) Bill Bartlett c. 1942 – Living Dale "Ivan" Browne 10 Mar 1945 – Living Bob "Reg" Nave 03 Nov 1944 – 28 Jan 2020 (75) Local obit Steve Walmsley 09 Jul 1948 – Living 07/02/1968 Green Tambourine #7 01/05/1968 Rice is Nice #41 NB1: Wikipedia and other sources are full of nonsense about the birth details of some of these. There's a good article here from 2008, which talks with the band members and gives their ages. Bartlett is the only one I can't find on Ancestry. NB2: According to his obituary, drummer turned talent agent Terry Porter (1947–2020) drummed on Green Tambourine as a stand-in.

If that were true then gerontologists wouldn’t be studying the genepool of centenarians / supercentenarians to work out why many of these people don’t get cancers, why they deteriorate far slower, and why some never get ill with colds/flus etc. Also, it’s a common misconception that as you age cancer precedence just keeps going up and up. It peaks between 55-75 then comes down. Why? Because as I said, it’s not randomised. It depends to a significant degree on lifestyle and genetics: Under 20: 1% 20-34: 3% 35-44: 5% 45-54: 14% 55-64: 24% 65-74: 25% 75-84: 20% 85 and over: 8%

Make up your mind. If you’re going to be an effective troll you gotta stick to a single script. In a previous post above you indicated that you’re younger than most of the users here (how you’d know that as a newbie I’m not sure... unless you’ve been a user here in another guise long before now ). Now you’re lecturing me about using weed (god forbid!) as if a terrible thing (no I’m not a user btw, makes me paranoid and nauseous). That isn’t exactly in keeping with Gen Z/millennials. I think you’re a Boomer in disguise.
-
I suggest you go read up on the “1 in 2/1 in 3 get cancer” statistic before you embarrass yourself further. That number is not simply randomised amongst the population. It is still influenced by genetics and by lifestyle. I hate the word “blame” in this instance. I’m not “blaming” them because if somebody has a lifestyle-induced illness, it’s they who suffer and I have nothing but sympathy for them regardless of how they got there. I’ve worked in healthcare, and most doctors I’ve met would agree that a lot (and notice I’m not saying most or all) cancers are caused by lifestyle choices that are within the grasp of control. Your point on poverty – sure, I agree that there are many in the world who aren’t in a position to make satisfactory lifestyle choices. However, I have difficulty believing that is the case in the United Kingdom and much of the Western World. Whilst relative poverty exists in the UK, *absolute* poverty is scarce. Very few people here live below the breadline. Even with a small amount of money in your back pocket it’s not hard to scrap together meals which are nutritionally satisfactory. Other than that, all you have to do is exercise moderately and keep your vices to a minimal level. It isn’t hard, and yet millions don’t live well, and that’s a big reason why cancer rates have soared in the last few decades. It isn’t because of some kind of genetic shift – that takes much much longer. Right, done with this discussion. And next time you try to take the moral high ground over a user on here, please also remember that you’re sat at your computer screen on a forum betting on when an elderly man is going to die!

Infowars isn’t real news bud.

Total rubbish. My parents and all of their siblings (9 of them) are in their 60s and 70s. Not one has ever had cancer. All my grandparents and great uncles/aunts are dead but lived well into their 80s and 90s. None of them had cancer bar ONE – a great uncle who didn’t look after himself and lived on a diet rich in red meat. He developed stomach cancer as a result and was a goner in his 50s. We don’t all get cancer you know! If you take very good care of yourself there’s a good chance your body will do the rest for you. Yes luck and genetics are a factor but a lot of the time it’s down to your own lifestyle choices.

I gave decent enough responses to your previous posts but there’s only so much engagement you can expect of people when all you’re doing is pulling science fiction like conspiracy theories out of your rear end, which aren’t supported by a single piece of evidence to give them an ounce of credibility.

Excellent trolling, though I get the impression you’re not a new user but rather a recycled/sock puppet account. Pretty sure I’ve heard a lot of this garbage before on here.
