No. Wasted pick. Please don’t give them stupid ideas.
-
I wouldn’t count on it sadly.
-
There are so many ill former and current DL picks right now that if the Committee picks well for 2021, I don't think it's unfeasible that we could pull off 30 hits next year.

I presume you mean the 2010 FIFA World Cup and not just 2010 in general (because Gary Speed was manager of Wales in late 2010 and is also dead). Maradona is the 3rd manager from the 2010 FIFA World Cup to have died: Pim Verbeek (Australia) Nov 2019 aged 63 from cancer Radomir Antić (Serbia) Apr 2020 aged 71 from pancreatitis Diego Maradona (Argentina) Nov 2020 aged 60 from a heart attack

According to the commentator the Beeb just had on, he relapsed into alcoholism during lockdown as football in Argentina has been suspended since March, so it sounds more like this was a return of his demons rather than health complaints catching up with him.

He wouldn’t want to score goals. He’d be more content scoring hookers, snorting coke and eating Maccie Ds.

I’m in favour of thread creation being tightened. I remember it being proposed in the past.

That’s not a source. It’s a script copier derived from Wikipedia. But you knew that.

Good question. Welz was a session player on some of their earlier hits, not a member. He didn't join the group as an official member until 1963, 6 years after their chart hits had completely dried up in the UK. Ambrose is listed as a member on their hits. They had quite a few session players on their records. I've tried to exclude non-members as much as possible from most of the acts listed over on that thread. Sometimes it's impossible to stick to this as the act was not an official band but simply a studio group or a one off outfit created to record and/or promote a hit. In those instances I included them. Anyway, long story short, Welz was a member but not til later.

I think that’s right (edit: if he excluded Captain Tom ofc). And in terms of 50s #1s + living here’s the complete list, ordered by earliest to last. Tony Bennett Joey Ambrose (or D’Ambrosio) of Bill Haley and his Comets The Dream Weavers (6 out of 7 of them still seem to be living, which is incredible) Pat Boone Herman Santiago and Jimmy Merchant of Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers Tommy Steele Paul Anka Jerry Allison of The Crickets Harry Belafonte Jerry Lee Lewis Connie Francis Don Everly of The Everly Brothers Jane Morgan Shirley Bassey Cliff Richard, Hank Marvin and Bruce Welch of The Drifters/Shadows Craig Douglas Jerry Keller John Cuffley of Emile Ford and the Checkmates The only act with a “?” next to it is Lord Rockingham’s XI (#1 in Nov 1958). There were 13 members on the hit. 10 we confirmed are dead in the UK Hit Singles thread. Three we can’t trace: Ronnie Black (double bass), Rex Morris (tenor sax) and Bernie Taylor (guitar). Some of the members were born as late as the 30s/40s and 2 died as recent as 2014 so very possible one or more could still be alive.

I reckon when he does die someone will notice. Might be worth restoring him as a wildcard.

The size of that list is in part down to the painfully small scope of sources considered to be reliable on Wiki, and in part due to how ridiculously slim the criteria is for creating a bio page. Some of my mates have Wikipedia page and they’re barely notable in their respective fields!

Appeared in a documentary this year. Took me the whole of 10 seconds to find that on his IMDb. This thread is for people who are not known to be alive. Not living people who we just haven't heard from in a while.

Still alive... Everything I found: 1) I can see sources which say he "had" cancer in 2006. I can't locate anything that says he was dying from it. That 2010 doc aired in March 2010, so was presumably shot sometime prior, so if he featured it could've been shot in 08/09? Seems like a vanity project to me, perhaps to memorialise himself. 2) Some of the Lana Turner family trees on Ancestry just say he "died after 2006". Though it looks like an assumption more than anything. 3) His real name is supposedly Ronald Pellar, but other sites are a little more cautious. Simply saying it was a "given name". He told Turner he was a PhD and was raised in Singapore (a lie). Researchers tend to think he was raised in Kuala Lumpur. 4) I've found their marriage (Nevada) and divorce (California) docs. Both from 1969. She is listed as "LANA TURNER" and he as "RONALD DANTE", even though neither of those were their real names! One of the docs says he was born 1920, the other 1918. Turner got rid of him pretty quickly once she discovered he was conning her out of money. Then she never remarried. Then he seemingly just disappears from any records. Nothing about his residency or death. One of the family trees suggests he latterly lived in Pauma Valley, San Diego County, California. Another says his middle name was Hugh. Then there's a Ronald Hugh Pellar who was living in Huntington Beach, Cali in 1995.... Put all of that together and this individual comes up on both Spokeo and Clustrmaps. This is our man. So born 1930. A serial fraudster has good reason to try and conceal his identity, so hence not surprised he claims a fabricated year with an invented backstory. Means he was in reality 38–39 when he married Turner, which seems accurate if you look at the pics from the two of them at the time. She probably thought he was 48–49.

Tried to nail this one without success. According to IMDb, she came out of retirement in 2011 to appear in an episode of something. The French deaths database (MatchID) has quite a few people by the name of Dominique Minot. She could be any one of them. Without a date of birth it would be almost impossible to know if any of them are her.

And the last to have been born in the 1910s.

Giuliani is now the earliest elected Mayor of NYC (1994–2000) living, with the only other two survivors being his successors (Bloomberg and del Blasio). That's a scary thought. Bloomberg is 79 next year and Giuliani will be 77.

That's what I thought and hence why I highlighted her name when I quoted the post from 2017, which was the last place MacLaine was discussed on the forum, according to the search function. Time for her own thread? -

You’ve got to be kidding. Bernie Clifton is never off the bloody TV!

Watched the Shirley MacLaine documentary on the TV earlier. Looking great considering she'll be 87 in 6 months. I imagine she'll be around for quite a few years yet. -

This would've been more apt in the Dying Bigots thread. "If the sickness of homosexuality spreads itself, everyone can become infected". And he did get infected, by an actual virus, and it killed him. Lolz. Speaking of old bigoted Islamists, a reminder that theologian and bezzie of Red Ken Livingstone, Yusuf al-Qaradawi (wiki) is still alive and turning 95 next year. 100% chance of a qualifying obit.
