Talk Like A Scotsman/St Andrews Day/Burns nicht

Telegraph death notice for Dr. John Ruairidh Morrison, 52, Chief of Clan Morrison (wiki). -
Pakistani and Afghani authorities saying it's true. It's actually sounding quite plausible now admittedly.

"Alan Brenmanen" changed from no info available to a full birth date. This mentions that he was high school friends with producer Ed Cobb. Cobb was born in Little Rock, Arkansas but grew up in California. He was born in 1938, so presumably "Brenmanen" had to be born around then. The name "Brenmanen" turns up zero results on Ancestry because it's not a name! Google suggested "Brenneman" and I hit that in. Up comes a studio drummer who appeared on everything during the the 50s–70s, including some Beach Boys records! This page suggests he was around 12 in 1954, as a "boy drummer". AllMusic and IMDb give him as an "Allen Reid Breneman". Ancestry agrees... ALLEN REID BRENEMAN b. 11 Jul 1940 in California Here he is: He has a Facebook profile and is alive! Another blank filled in.

Joško Battestin (wiki), Slovene electrical engineer and inventor, allegedly dead at 102. -
Michael J. Fox was on This Morning today. Looked pretty good! I reckon he'll be around for a while yet.

Eric Hall's birth seems to be in contention. His Telegraph obit says: "Eric Hall was born in London, by his own account in November 1947, though perhaps some years before that;" Allegedly born in Bethnal Green in November 1947. The birth index doesn't agree. So just how old was he?

Use the GRO Index for deaths in the last 20 years. They're not on FreeBMD and most of them are not on Ancestry! You'll have to sign up with an email address but it's worth it: https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp

That is absolutely crazy. Just shows how backward and ignorant these people are. Wonder if we can make it a hat trick and get a third in? Ieronymos II of Athens (wiki) also ill...

It says he’s *still in critical condition but now *off the ventilator.

Had a fascinating conversation with Gay's daughter. Here's the new info she gave me: 1) Ross Gilmour is long dead. 2) Mel Todd is long dead. 3) Valerie Bain is still alive and living near Eastbourne! She must be in her late 80s/early 90s. From reading Mike Sammes' autobiography, which is largely useless and barely mentions the other members: 1) Gay was married to British actor Peter Madden (wiki). Quite the age gap! 2) Valerie Bain is the same person as Valerie Taylor! 3) My lineups above are accurate for the charting hits. I'm happy to leave this now. Wish I could locate Bain and get bio details for Todd and Gilmour but sadly the trail goes cold.

Here's a clip of him singing last month. Certainly looking his age now. His voice has changed too but he can still belt out a tune.

People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...

I still believe he will obit somewhere, likely The Times, but in the meantime a reliable source in the form of a mention of his death from the Institute of Economic Affairs. -
Top job! I am going to tackle some more of these tonight if I get time.

Precisely. Euroscepticism was the norm of the Labour Party until the 1990s with the likes of Barbara Castle, Tony Benn and Peter Shore all opposed to EEC integration, and then ever closer union. I'm not a Labour man by any means but they were first class politicians who stood up for the interests of the working classes and knew that the EU did not serve their interests whatsoever, even if many of the social policies were left leaning/"progressive". With the departure of Gisela Stuart, Frank Field and Kate Hoey from the Commons, I believe Graham Stringer is now the last remaining eurosceptic Labour MP! How times have changed.

Alright, a new wee side project. Been looking at IMDb recently and noticed that it may be useful in fishing out some names of people who are slightly off our radar. The site also needs some updating for the names of some of individuals who have died, but for whatever reason the mods of the site haven't noticed. So I decided to go through the top 500 profiles (i.e. most visited) for every birth year from 1916–1926 (i.e. turning 95–105 in 2021), and note all the names missing a date of death. Here's what I came up with. I'll need to populate this with notes later and I'll highlight all living individuals in green, all those dead in red and those we're uncertain of in orange. Here are the names from the first four years. I'll add the other years later. For now, I've only researched 1916. Anyone please feel free to chip in in the meantime. If we uncover death dates, I'll submit them to IMDb as updates. 1916: Betty Rowland (IMDb) dancer and stripper – 100th birthday article from the Huff Post with photos... was this centenarian off our radar? They claim she's the last "star" from the Burlesque era Carolina Barrett (IMDb) actress – died 13th October 2010 according to this. Other sources (mainly FB pages) say 2009... I'll try and submit this to IMDb Beverly Cleary (IMDb) writer – living, as we all know 1917: Marsha Hunt (IMDb) actress Don Marion (IMDb) silent film actor Daphne Courtney (IMDb) actress Eleanor Hansen (IMDb) actress Eddie Infante (IMDb) actor and director Antonio Gradoli (IMDb) actor 1918: Dusty Anderson (IMDb) actress Michael Butler (IMDb) actor Elisabeth Waldo (IMDb) violinist and composer Shôichi Hirose (IMDb) actor Mary McLeod (IMDb) actress Anthony La Penna (IMDb) voice artist Zachary Charles (IMDb) actor Jack Billings (IMDb) choreographer Eileen Bell (IMDb) actress 1919: Nehemiah Persoff (IMDb) actor Anne Douglas (IMDb) producer and actress Silas Hathaway (IMDb) silent film actor Walter Bernstein (IMDb) screenwriter Caren Marsh (IMDb) actress and dancer Alfie Scoop (IMDb) actor Betty Brodel (IMDb) actress Orlando Drummond (IMDb) actor Walter Randall (IMDb) actor Guido Gorgatti (IMDb) actor 1920–1926 I'll do tomorrow (there are a lot of names!)

That would make more sense! He was still the most likely one on there, but only the first name on there I was 100% on.

Dead. RIP. Genuinely great guy. Interviewed him for my uni dissertation. He was still working right to the end.

Mentioned her a few months back but worth doing another check... another parent of note is Keith Harris' mother, Lilian (known as "Lila") Harris who was born in 1917. 100th birthday report from Cheshire Liver in 2017. Nothing in the GRO or probates since then. She was a singer and dancer in her own right and turning 104 next year. Could potentially obit.
-
Tried to get a source for her in the past to update her Wiki page. Likely the 2002 date is correct but the only page online which covers her is here. Only lists her birth year. Almost certainly dead and just not widely publicised.
-
Just had a look at the England and Wales probates for this year, which returned nothing, and she isn't in the GRO up to December 2019. Possible that she has died since then but I think it would've been noticed. I would say likely she is still alive.
-
Updated. Thanks @Death Impends. Quite upset about this. All seven of them were still alive 6 decades after the hits stopped and I thought maybe they'd all hit 80 before any dropped. Tucker ofc rhythm guitar on Happy Together. A song which sold in the millions, has been covered umpteen times and will live on in the Grammy Hall of Fame.

A COVID death according to the NY Times.

This one was addressed on another thread about a month ago. She is still alive. The press interviewed her not too long ago as well. I think she’s 101 later this month.
