I already have Redway's birth? The internet says 1939 but I checked the records anyway and that's where I got 1940 from. Gay – I saw this also but I'm reluctant to add because 1) She latterly lived in Portsea, Hampshire 2) Her daughter now lives in Bognor Regis – neither of which have any proximity to Wales. When the GRO is updated in the next few months we should get a definite year. I might ping her daughter on Twitter and see if I can get anymore details. And who knows, maybe her mum was still latterly in touch with other members (they were together for about 4 decades so I would have thought so!). Maybe she can inform us if there are anymore survivors. Gilmour – no idea. He's one of the most elusive despite being a staple for both groups for decades. He's on the far right of both pics below. Valerie Taylor and/or Valerie Bain – I did consider that they may very well be the same person. I can't decide from the photos so tried to pull up a marriage certificate... only to find nothing! Perhaps someone with a better eye can tell me if these are the same person? Left: The Coronets / Right: The Mike Sammes Singers It's very disappointing that this group hasn't been well documented. They were literally on everything during the 50s and 60s, from Beatles records to Disney films (incl. Bedknobs and Broomsticks and The Aristocats!)

Updated entry for the December 2019 death of Marion Madden (née Gay) as per a tweet from her daughter here. Record doesn't appear in the GRO (not all deaths from Q4 of 2019 have been added yet). Mike Redway is still living. Yorkshire Evening Post article from 2016 on him here. I reckon there's a good chance that he's the last one still about. EDIT: Maybe Redway isn't the last! Here's an early folk release from Mel Todd. The guy in the pic is the same one in some of the group photos of The Sammes Singers. Record sleeve says he is also a tenor and "born 25 years ago", it was released in 1958 so born c. 1933. Can't find his death record so could still be living at 87, or possibly moved back to Canada and died there (Ancestry lacks Canadian records).

Updated entry for birth and death details of Bill Shepherd. Not sure why I missed him first time round. He was the same Bill Shepherd who worked with The Beatles and was an early producer for the Bee Gees. First thing he did after leaving The Coronets though was he joined the George Mitchell Minstrel act, awkwardly.

    Peter Sutcliffe

Hmm I don’t think prison food is unlimited. It’s not like there’s an all you can eat buffet. It’s not hard to get that size on a regular diet. You just need to be in a calorie surplus ie not move much. Prisoners are allocated the right to exercise in a communal area. Given what he’s done, wouldn’t blame him for avoiding mingling with others!

Just listened to the sequence on YouTube. Got to admit, genuinely never heard it before today but I see it was popular on 80s hip-hop records and still sampled on a some tracks today. Did you research the 80s top 30 then? Any surprises along the way e.g. people who didn't know had passed?

    Rumours

I just remembered this a few minutes ago when we were discussing 80s acts. I see someone at this Stock Aitken Waterman blog has linked to DeathList and asked an open question about whether he's dead or not. Wiki have also removed his date of death due to it being unsourced. I know Mike Stock semi-acknowledged the death rumour in a subsequent tweet without actually confirming whether it was true or not. So now that the 2019 deaths are listed in the GRO and I'm a bit better at this, here's proof of his demise: Jason John (aka Jason Herbert) is commonly cited to having been born 18 Mar 1967 in Coventry. The only person with the surname Herbert who was both born in 1967 and died in 2019 according to the GRO is: Reverse this in FreeBMD and we get our man's birth in Coventry (registered in the 2nd quarter even though he was born in the first, not uncommon though): So, he's definitely dead.

Well I'm not saying never. I might give it a go next year. I just think that so many of them are still "young". I mean if you look at all of the acts of Stock Aitken Waterman for example, I think there are maybe 3 names who are dead? As for sampling... is it really that hard to tackle when writing lineups? I would just ignore the sample, and focus on the title artist. E.g. with Kon Kan and I Beg Your Pardon, surely you'd just list the two guys from the production duo itself and not Lynn Anderson who's sampled?

Finished. I'll slot these all in later to their respective letters. That last section took so long... bloody Elvis and his huge entourage. That's the 1970s done, and moreover that's me done. I refuse to do anymore. Though corrections and updates are ofc very welcome! If somebody wants to do the 80s they're welcome to, though this is DeathList and I just don't think the 80s musicians are dropping off at anywhere near same rate as those from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Thanks to everyone who chipped in, particularly @YoungWillz and @RoverAndOut.

    Norman Lloyd

I'm normally against old for being old types being on DL. However, Norman Lloyd is one of the few centenarians who qualifies in my opinion. Marsha Hunt, Nehemiah Persoff and Clarissa Eden are three others... and Prince Philip will be a fifth, assuming he makes his centenary. This year saw quite a wipeout from the prominent names aged 100+, de Havilland, Lynn and Douglas included. Makes sense to replace them with a few others. I would resist adding Eden for 2021. No idea where Hunt's health is at the moment. Lloyd has gone unusually quiet, only granting a telephone interview near the start of the pandemic to say he's doing fine. Persoff looks frail to me. 1-2 years max left in him.
