People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...

    Each Year's Most Significant Death.

Your initial argument for Bryant being the most “significant” was Google trends. It’s likely many of the people Googling worldwide were trying to find out who he actually was after he started trending on socials. ~160 (3/4) of the world’s countries have never had a basketball team feature in an international level competition. The year’s most significant death is not bloody Kobe Bryant.

    10. Mel Brooks

Why? They’re not Siamese twins. Brooks has a lot of showbiz friends. Including the likes of Norman Lear and Dick Van Dyke. I don’t the death on one of them is exactly going to push him over the edge, especially when he seems to be fine health wise.

    The Rocky Horror Picture Show

That’s precisely why I never queried the original title of the thread. I thought it was to discuss the franchise in general, not just the movie.

    10. Mel Brooks

Because he’s healthy and still somewhat active. The fact that he hasn’t died this year and is still making occasional appearances is testament to that. Next.

    Each Year's Most Significant Death.

Well if you want to weigh “significance” largely on tragedy/manner of death and reaction to it then technically George Floyd trumps Bryant... and yet I don’t think anyone would claim Floyd is more notable than Connery.

    Each Year's Most Significant Death.

That’s because it was a shock/unexpected death with tragic circumstances that everyone wanted to read about. Connery is hands down the most notable person to have died this year. Edit: Toast beat me to it.

Was watching BBC News earlier. They were covering the Diana interview and the fact that the BBC has now launched a new investigation into the dirty tactics used by Bashir to secure the interview. Anyway, they noted at the end of the newspiece that Bashir was still seriously ill in hospital with COVID. That's 2 weeks now. Not looking good.

Looks like I jinxed it when we reviewed the Who's Line is it Anyway (UK) lineup back in late May. Let's try it again. Tbh, I'm very surprised only Peter Cook and John Sessions have gone.

Thanks YW. Such a strange act. Reasonably well known considering they were essentially a one hit wonder for their Automatic Lover, #35 and yet not the song I was expecting... I’m very familiar with “Baby Baby” because of its use in popular culture. It didn’t even chart, but seems to be their signature song... and yet I don’t really understand how it grew to being so widely known in the timespan from its original release? Also unusual that Edwards is still with them as the last remaining original member. Drummers are normally the first out the door and punk bands in particular would often dispose of and replace their drummers within a couple of years.

Other than Mel Brooks (94) himself, just three credited Blazing Saddles cast members still alive: Burton Gilliam (82), Robyn Hilton (76) and child actor Rodney Allen Rippy (52). Unusually high mortality rate for a film from the mid-70s with such a big cast.
