With Kirk Douglas, Vera Lynn and Olivia De Havilland all dying in the same year, I think it's fair to say we've lost three of the most prominent centenarians in the world. Got me thinking, who is the "most well known" centenarian now? This is very hard to measure of course, but by looking at those with the most non-English Wiki articles, here's a short list: 1 Edmond H. Fischer (41) = James Lovelock (41) 3 Gottfried Bohm (33) 4 Lawrence Ferlinghetti (29) 5 Boris Pahor (25) = Borys Paton (25) 7 Marsha Hunt (22) = Pierre Soulages (22) 9 Norman Lloyd (21) 10 Captain Tom (19) = Muazzez Ilmiye Cig (19) = Beverly Cleary (19) = Nehemiah Persoff (19) 14 Brenda Milner (18) 15 Ben Ferencz (17) 16 Josip Manolic (15) = Renee Simonot (15) 18 Marge Champion (13) 19 Carmen Herrera (12) = Robert Marchand (12) 21 Damian Iguacen Borau (11) = Anne Buydens (11) Not very scientific. Though can anyone think of any centenarians with international prominence not listed above?

There's a fourth: Dirk Wayne Summers b. 1931

Agreed. Her or Rhonda Fleming maybe. Edit: Just had a proper look. I'd also add Eva Marie Saint, Janis Paige, June Lockhart, Cara Williams and Angela Lansbury to the same tier as Johns. It will be a few years yet until we're scraping the barrel on Golden Age actresses.

Cheers. Born in Lancashire area in 1945 as Doreen M Bull according to the GRO. There was a Doreen Mary Bull born 1945 who died in Wales in 2013. Could've been her I suppose, but we'd need something to link it.

Thanks, updated! Can't find a marriage certificate or any records from Cincinnati where he's identifiable sadly but at least we have something more concrete now. And surprise surprise the Collins book and IMDb are wrong on his nationality!

Brilliant! According to Pitter's FB his birthday was yesterday, 25th Jul. Already have his DOB so that's now complete. I've changed Roy Knight to Ray Knight. Good find for Neysmith. Found his naturalization record on Ancestry! Name Howard Errington Sampson Neysmith Birth Port Antonio, Jamaica 12/10/1951

Cheers. Updated Davis. Sargeant's local obit from earlier this year mentions that the other three are still living. Two of them were interviewed. Not Davis funnily enough, which makes me think he might have emigrated.

Hmm could be a mistake, or could be that they reduced his age for publicity purposes. Is it Tony or Tom Marshall? Tom seems to be the most commonly used one online but I see that this and a few other sources say Tony. Anyway, section updated. Cheers.

I've taken some of the contentious info out and added a note to their section. Can't find either Colligan or Mahoney in the records to get any confirmation. Just Gold and Courtney. Thanks for looking! Will work through the rest of these shortly.

People Who Are Dead According To Wikipedia...
Ulitzer95 replied to Vaagheid's topic in DeathList Forum
Obit for McNiel. Obit for Gaffney. QO obit for John Papworth from The Telegraph. -
There's at least 150+ names on that list who appeared in Hollywood movies during the 30s and 40s. There's no dispute with them – the 1940s was definitely part of the Golden era. The dispute of where it ends comes into play when you're looking at movies post–1948.
-
Eh? Maybe one of the last greats from that era, but there are hundreds of actors still living from the Golden Age.

Far from me to tell you how to run your own dead pool but I shall offer my opinion anyway, for what it’s worth. Why on earth would you award points according to an edit on Wikipedia, without waiting for a credible source (or at the very least a FB or Twitter post)? If I wanted to, I could kill off any of the centenarians you’ve listed on page 1 here from a fresh IP in seconds and make it look like a semi credible edit to the page. It isn’t hard.

Already reported in the Yank Science Fiction thread but I think he was far bigger than that. John Saxon dead at 83. (or 84 according to Wikipedia) A Nightmare on Elm Street series and Enter the Dragon his most memorable roles. Wiki

Met him 2 years ago. He was very frail and slow on his feet. Frailty does not mean he’s about to peg it though.

Couldn't find Bob Colligan on Ancestry, at all. Then found this promo, which gives his DOB. It's pixelated but I make out 25th Sep 1931 in Peabody, Massachusetts. What do you see? Anyway, punch this into Ancestry and still nothing. I've added it in for now though. This image has opened a whooooole new can of worms though. So Bob Colligan done. Let's look at Wally Gold – no problems. The image says he was born in Brooklyn, New York on Jul 12, 1928 and the descrip at the side says deceased. That matches the info we have. Next, Frank Mahoney (or Fran Mahoney as the typo in the promo refers to him as). Lots of online sources (albeit none of them solid) state that this guy died in 2007. I used this page for the date of death of 25th Jul 2007. The page gives his year of birth as 1920. I found the corresponding Francis Mahoney who died on that date in 2007 on Ancestry. Says he was born 25th May 1919. Internet says he was a WWII interpreter. Makes sense, as age would check out. So the problem is that the above promo image says he was born (again squinting my eyes) Jul 12 1928 in Boston Massachusetts. Now, this would make more sense as it's in line with the ages of the rest of the group. But where does the WWII interpreter stuff come from (if he was born 1928, he'd have been a very young WWII interpreter – 16 by the point the war ended!). So I can't find Mahoney on Ancestry under the DOB Jul 12 1928 so now I'm even more confused. Is he even dead? Possibly (the seller of that item seems to think so but maybe they were going off of Wikipedia). Did he die in 2007? Maybe. OR perhaps somebody had him confused with another Frank/Francis Mahoney and he in fact died in another place and time. Anyway, very very confused now. Annoying as the research we're doing is flawless as far as our method goes. It's just that there is so much nonsense written on the Internet! Second problem.... Bill Courtney. It says he was born 02 April 19?? (can't make it out) in Boston Massachusetts. This one the promo definitely has wrong. In this interview he states he was born in Portland, Maine and that his family moved to Boston, Massachusetts later. Says his father was a shipping commissioner. I found him under his real name of William Leo O'Brien (but on the death certificate it says aka Bill Courtney), the record states born in Portland, Maine, lists the father's profession as a shipping commissioner, residence Medford Massachusetts etc. It's definitely the right guy I found, but his death certificate says born 26 Jan 1926, not 02 Apr. I'm less bothered about the second one. It's all cross verified and I'd rather trust his word of mouth and the death records vs. a promotional bio. But Mahoney is fucked up and I don't know what to do with it now?

Fixed. Cheers.

On Ancestry, James Marvin Troxel's records state that he was married in Phoenix, Arizona in the 1950s. This page mentions Jimmy Troxel was with Duane Eddy's lot in Phoenix... in the 1950s. And the comment from 4 years ago also mentions that he's dead. We got there! Updated the section. So only saxophonist Jim Horn (b. 1940) and Duane Eddy himself (b. 1938) are still around.

Just checked the Collins Complete UK Hit Singles book and that's where Worcester came from! That book is full of errors. Anyway, changed. The names are too common to pinpoint to precise individuals on the GRO. However, Jim Green's comment that himself, Bower and Stokes are still living, that would suggest Sweeney died. Now there are quite a few dead Michael Sweeneys in the Leeds area on Ancestry as you can imagine, but one that stands out is a Michael Sweeney born 1942 (so ageing with Kirby) who died around 2007.

Thanks! Neither am I. Maybe I should start keeping all the sources I come across. Anyway, I've scrubbed the birthdate of 15 Sep and changed the year.

I THINK I've just found him! So on Google I found this. It's an obit for a Larry Troxel who died aged 44 in 1998. It says "Troxel, the son of jazz musician Jim Troxel, also was a youth pastor and taught percussion at Biola University and Southern California College." Now on Ancestry I found Larry's record, and from it his father's: James Marvin Troxel b. 04 Feb 1929 in Marshfield Wood, Wisconsin, d. 11 Dec 1994 in Los Angeles California. On AllMusic Jimmy Troxel is listed as Jim M. Troxel. I think we're 75% of the way there on him. If there was a reference that linked the Duane Eddy drummer to Wisconsin, or latterly living in California, or also appearing on jazz hits etc. then I'll add it in. Maybe I'm being overcautious. Troxel looks like a rare surname from what Ancestry has brought up.

Cheers! Found him no problem with all that info. Born 19 May 1945. Still living in Dana Point. If you want a chuckle, watch this interview. The interviewer is bloody clueless. "What was your hit?" "Pipeline." "Can you sing a bit of it for us?" "No. It was an instrumental."

Ah wait. Found him. Edward Preston Snyder b. 9 Oct 1941, San Diego
