    The Chequered Flag

There’s a source on his page that gives 24th as a date. Amusingly on Google there’s an article from 10 years ago that describes him as one of the worst F1 drivers ever. Thoughts?

This whole thing is such a mess. Just like Diane.

    Dying Off The Radar

Jack Lewis Rader was born on January 2, 1937 in Nebraska, and was still living in Lancaster, California several years ago. The newspaper clipping was previously available at the below link, but it now appears to be broken and my attempt to fix it using the Internet Archive has failed: http://legacy.lib.utexas.edu/taro/utlsc/00026/00026-P.html From memory, the article spoke about Rader's acting career. It also identified early bodybuilder Peary Rader (wiki, 1909–1991) as his father. EDIT: Jack Rader was still responding to fan mail in September 2023 as per Star Tiger, so most likely still alive.

    Dying Off The Radar

The search function is your friend. We've already discussed them both at length before. FTR – that obit you're referring to was probably used to update Fletcher's IMDb. Why they accepted it I don't know as it mentions nothing about acting and could easily be somebody else totally unrelated. Rader was born much later than 1921, and there is a good chance of him still being alive. I had his IMDb profile updated with his correct age. I even submitted a newspaper article which supported it, but annoyingly it was later changed back.

    World War II Veterans

That's the plan! Would be pretty awesome to meet a WWII vet. Not had that honour in years as all the ones in my family are now sadly gone.

    Activists

Apparently she was. Nora Cortiñas (wiki) dead at 94.

    World War II Veterans

Albert Price, "one of the last" surviving D-Day veterans, dead at 98. I believe there may only be less than a dozen left now. 80th anniversary is in a few days. Will be interesting to see how many turn out for the commemorations. I have been invited along to one of the main events, though I have not registered to attend yet. Going along for form spotting would probably be in poor taste.

    The Dead of 2024

Which is a pity, because he's gone straight to a Times QO.

His page has been updated on there now. Thanks!

    Disc Jockeys

Steve Wright's death still unregistered 3 months on. Got to ask why? Am I reading too much into this or does that article subtly suggest he could have killed himself?

    General Election 2024?

He didn't say that at all. Confirmed he's standing down but might one day return to frontline politics for Labour.

    Diane Abbott

https://x.com/Channel4News/status/1795897261894844627 (fucking link won't embed). ... anyyyyways bringing this thread swiftly back on topic, here's the full speech given by Diane the other day. Speech is maybe a bit slower but what's really noticeable is the shaking. As I've said before, Labour types have never been able to confirm to me what it is she's got but I consistently hear Parkinson's. If she actually does stand for re-election she'll comfortably win. As @Sean once said, Gary Glitter could stand as the Labour candidate in Hackney and he'd win. Just don't expect to see her appear in the chamber, or doing anything for that matter. But she'll still be collecting her £91,346 smackers plus expenses, obviously.

    The Chequered Flag

Anyone racing related becoming a nightmare over on Wikipedia now. It seems a lot of these old racing sites that used to put up obits of sorts have closed down or simply stopped getting updated. All these announcements come through Facebook now, which is less than ideal given that Wikipedia is getting even stricter as of recent with regards to sourcing from social media (which in this day and age is not practical for the reason I've just outlined). Rick France https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_France Blackie Wangerin https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackie_Wangerin Vic White https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vic_White David Walker https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Walker_(racing_driver) If anyone find proper obits/death or funeral notices for any of the above, please post them on here or DM me with them.

73 this year and now 11 years since he had a major heart attack. Worth keeping an eye on.

    Diane Abbott

It's the timing which makes me believe it's politically motivated. In the past 24 hours Labour have also abandoned Faiza Shaheen (wiki), a high profile candidate who was standing against Sir Iain Duncan-Smith in Chingford. She seems to be competent. Her crime? She liked a video on Twitter by U.S. comedian Jon Stewart which "appeared" to down play anti-semitism. That's hardly the crime of the century. She was a huge backer of Corbyn. It is a purge.
  20. Ulitzer95

    Diane Abbott

Starmer‘s purge continues. Brighton MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle suspended and blocked from standing. Will the left’s sweetheart Zarah Sultana make it to the close of nominations at this rate? I know Twitter isn’t indicative of wider opinion but some on the left now jumping to the Greens, which could partly explain why the polls are tightening between Labour and Tory.

Thanks. Problem is the record doesn't have Béolet, it was the surname Brochier. I don't think it's enough to confirm it's her at this stage.

    UK Singles Chart

Was a member only briefly from 1975 to 1976. XTC didn't appear on the Singles Chart until 1979 so wrong thread but cheers for posting anyway. I'll add it to Wiki.

    Deadpool Detective Work

French table tennis player Huguette Béolet (born 1919, wiki) is in the "possibly living people" category on Wikipedia. Is this her death record from 2014 on MatchID? Same first name and identical date of birth. Only problem is I can't find anything online to confirm whether her married name was Brochier and whether or not she was born in Algeria as there is such little information on her. Is Huguette a common female French name? There are no other death records for anyone called Huguette with the same date of birth.

    Political Frailty

He announced that publicly 11 months ago. Parliament dissolves at midnight so a lot of MPs will just be getting their formal letters uploaded into the public domain. There's a list of all 130 retiring MPs on Wiki here. It will be 132 if Diane Abbott does indeed retire and if Jamie Wallis fails to find a seat in England (he said he doesn't want to stand in Wales again). Not a million miles off of the 149 who stood down in 2010 following the expenses scandal!

    Dying Off The Radar

Managed to finally solve the case of romance novelist Katharine Gordon (wiki). She died in West Sussex in 2005, aged 90, under the name of Katharine Hornsby. As per Ancestry she had at least 3 marriages, which made her tricky to track.
