Did his name dictate his career choice and serve as inspiration, one wonders. Appears to be same guy nominated for two Oscars, thus securing an obit next year. This guy is pure gold. YOU HEAR ME COMMITTEE???!! SC Just don't shoot him Are we sure James R. Messenger, Father of the Information age isn't dead? He lived in Marietta, GA, right? These folks who left messages of condolences seem to think it's the Mr. Messenger in question. Dead as of April 21, 2015? Found no obit, proper or otherwise. Ironic for the Father of the Information Age. http://www.legacy.com/guestbook/DignityMemorial/guestbook.aspx?n=james-messenger&pid=174685367 The age in the reports of his diagnosis matches that of the Dignity Memorial obituary, and one of the comments mentions he was "Academy Award nominated" on the tributes. I don't think there's any doubt it's the same person.

C. Gerald Forsberg died in 2000. Abilio Couto died in 1998. Paul Herron died in 2005. A quick Google search would help. -
Oldest Formula One driver Robert La Caze died at the beginning of July at the age of 98 according to the online drivers database: https://www.driverdb.com/drivers/robert-la-caze/ I guess we won't be holding out for a UK obit. Luckily nobody picked him on DDP. Anybody know who the oldest F1 driver is now? Andre Guelfi, 96, seems to be a safe bet. Eric Thompson, 95, maybe the second? Perhaps they're the only drivers from the 1910s still breathing?

I'm sure there was a topic for Desert Island Discs but alas, I can't bloody find it. Anyway, Pilbeam was the LAST living person to have appeared as a guest on the show during the 1940s. Of course. British media more interested in click bait worthy sensationalist non-stories rather than the event itself. Sign of the times.

Okay he's far from perfect. He's made a LOT of blunders in the past. Some were in jest, some were just out of sheer carelessness, ignorance and stupidity. But he's 94, born in the early 1920s! His ignorant views on the world around us are typical of many in the pre-war generations. I know my own gran comes away with some corkers and everyone at the dinner table bites their lip! But give the man his dues - he has a commendable service to the Royal Navy, has been a loyal consort to Elizabeth II - supporting her in her duties for over 60 years, and he's helped raise millions for charities and organisations that a non-ceremonial figurehead of state just wouldn't be able to do. I just don't understand what all the fuss is about. It seems to me that a lot of gobshites, like most of the parliamentary Labor Party in Australia are just trying to score cheap political points by appealing to the feckless republicans who simply don't understand the royal family, and are utterly clueless to the hard work and immense contributions they've made to the world. If you want rid of the royal family then go for it. Become yet another boring republic on the face of the map with another layer or bureaucracy and another halfwit careerist politician at the top of the chain, with far too many powers for one individual (like the US president), whereas the powers of the royal family are on the contrary - watered down and largely theoretical. More democratic in my eyes.

She's already said she won't abdicate... What would be the point anyway when most of her duties have already been transferred to other members of the Royal Family? (which actually makes more sense to me given that the monarch's diary is chaotic)

I told you guys she was ill! http://www.deathlist...=1 That's 3 out of 5 of your predictions gone. Alice Babs and Sid Caeser are also dead . Congrats! Make that 4 out of 5. It turns out that Bess Myerson passed away on December 14, 2014. http://www.nytimes.c...WT.nav=top-news Hmm... I wonder if she was picked this year in the DDP? Add another one to the 2014 deaths that's just cropped up now: American-British actress Yolande Donlan at 94 died on 30th December... Guardian obit: http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/jan/05/yolande-donlan

Philip, he'll outlive the rest of them!

Going back to a topic we haven't discussed for a while, the TV show "The Comedians". It appears two more of the cast died in 2014 but stayed off the radar as neither got UK obits: Bryn Phillips in February (79, cancer) > http://www.walesonli...omedian-6745892 and Alan Fox in May (77, cancer) > http://www.shieldsga...n-fox-1-6645275 EDIT: And Brian Carroll died in October aged 84. http://www.thestar.c...ed-84-1-6916616

Sir Albert McQuarrie is still alive? I'll have to stick him on one of my lists as he was the last Conservative MP for my constituency before Alex Salmond took it from him in 1987. A friend of mine saw him at a Better Together event shortly before the indy ref. Said he was wobbly on the knees (with a zimmer frame to aid walking) but mentally fit as a fiddle. Article and photo of him here from earlier this year: http://www.ellontimes.co.uk/news/local-headlines/buchan-bulldog-publishes-memoirs-1-3257251
