She wasn't Scotland's oldest person. The Herald, The Scotsman and the BBC have, as usual, got their facts wrong. There are at least two Scots older than her still living!! One of them lives blocks away from me in a nursing home and she is set to turn 110 in December!

Godfrey Rampling, Britain's oldest Olympian has died age 100.

Ah you mean SHOPPING bag. Remember which side of the Atlantic you're on.

You can add Michael Jackson to the dead list.

Despite not posting, I was keeping up with all the posts here last night when the news broke. Was thinking how stuffed TNZ and The Brisbane Times (the first 2 sites to report him dead) would've been if it had turned out to be false. It didn't help that Elizabeth Taylor and Uri Geller were demanding that he was alive as well. He is without a doubt, the biggest legend to have died since the likes of Elvis Presley. I listened to his music from a very young age and always will and no doubt his death will shock many across the globe, depress others and make some suicidal (have a look at the Jacko fanbases if you want conclusive evidence).... That aside.... LaToya for 2010 anyone?

DEAD

Sad, sad news. She was the best of the best at what she did, a real pure person at heart as well. The first person to have died this year that I'll truly miss....

Only 600 sitting MPs voted in the speaker's election. So about 46 didn't bother showing up, including my own beloved MP... I wouldn't read too much into it. Not true. All but the 5 Sinn Fein MPs and two others (including Paisley) turned up. However out of those who turned up, not all voted. Oh right. Anyway. He may contend his Westminster seat next year. Hardly the actions of a dying man. Denial? Anyways if I was to draw up a list of people who have died from natural causes whilst holding office I'd be here all day...

No wonder he didn't make it....

Watch this space, I heard a rumour from somebody (I know, I know - NOT a reliable source) that Paisley hasn't been too well recently. He was one of the two sitting MPs not present today at the Speaker's election and Williams McCrea has to represent him instead as DUP group leader. He could be on his way out soon....

She is indeed!

Oh yeaaahhh!! Never even noticed this forum had filtering...

For the sake of DDPers... a suitable obituary for Jean Dausset was produced by The Independent today... link

Felled being a metaphor for what exactly?

Since nobody is posting anything may as well give these guys a mention: Two Luftwaffe fighter pilots: April 29: Günther Bahr, 87 May 17: Adolf Dickfeld, 99 I think there's still a few dozen about though.. but perhaps the Luftwaffe is worthy of a new topic?

Moloko Temo, who is the oldest claim for the world's oldest person title at 134, has died. Her family say they are now trying even harder to verify her claim with Guinness... pretty desperate if you ask me...

My dad phoned me up to tell me that John Carradine had died under suspicious circumstances and I was thinking to myself.... didn't he die along time ago and then when he said Kill Bill I knew it was infact David... strange stuff actually because I was reading an article about him 2 nights ago and I thought "ah well he's only 72 he's got a good few years left in him yet!"

Perhaps less notable than Campbell Ross but Australian evangelist Geoffrey Bingham has died at 90. To be honest never heard of him. I just get a lot of pleasure from learning that an evangelist of any sort has died.
-
Shih Kien, the actor who played the bad guy (I forget his name) in Enter the Dragon has died aged 96, dismissing rumours that he died in 1999.
-
Still no obituary for Maggs yet, his death notice has been removed from wiki repeatedly... perhaps a false death report?
-
A bit late now but Lawrence Daly, the leader of the National Union of Mineworkers, died the same day as Ken Gill. That's 3 in 7 days.... Thatcher sure is winning the war.... no doubt Scargill will finish her off though
